I really like this machine. We use it a lot. I like it enough that after I had problems with my first one - and figured out a way to address those problems - I bought another one. The flaw is the extension hose for use with the jar sealer and their containers. The hose has a nipple on it that goes into the container lids or into the attachment that is used to seal the containers. Simply the act of removing and replacing that attachment is likely eventually going to break that nipple rendering the hose useless. It's not very sturdy. And it's not possible to replace it. So a fragile part that probably costs a few dollars can make a $300 machine useless. **** Your mileage may vary. You are certainly voiding any warranty doing this. Try at your own risk **** I did discover you can buy a replacement hose for a different model that more or less matches the one that comes with this machine. I was able to buy the replacement part, cut the hose on it, cut the hose on the broken machine and reconnect them with a plastic hose connector. Worked like a charm. What I didn't take into account on that attempt was that if it ever came apart and got back into the machine I'd never get it out. I found I could get a hose connector with a "lip" that would never go back into machine and could permanently connect that to the machine side of the hose. I can't really endorse buying an expensive machine knowing that you will likely have to jerry-rig repair it. It was a choice I made knowing what I was going into. Like I said except for this flaw I really like this machine. I'd give it 5 starts twice over if that part was better made or at least easily replaceable.

I’ve had this sealer for some time now. Amazing product! Very well made and very durable. Seals effortlessly and changing bags is so easy. The custom cut on the bags is awesome as it eliminates waste and ensures you use only what you need. The vacuum sealer port is rock solid and works perfectly with each seal. Totally recommend it!!! You will not be disappointed!

I've had 4 food savers over the years, the last one just up and died after 15 years. I ordered an upgrade online and it was a lemon. Would vacuum one out every twenty times or so. Returning it and ordered this one, an upgrade from the other. Loving it so far. Fantastic vacuum suction every time. Other good features as well. Automatic roll dispenser, forward and reverse. Cuts and seals each bag as well. LOVE LOVE LOVE it ;-) Fast shipping and exceptional packaging. I bought the bundle that came with two marinade containers since I do beef jerky and marinade all of my meats. I was surprised when I found out it also came with an additional marinade container inside the box. Yay me! I would highly recommend this and think it would make an awesome gift to anyone that spends a lot of time preparing food for the family.

Its has always been a little precious to operate and we only used it a handful of time over the last almost three years. Now it is toast and going to the landfill. Sad. (Update - decided it was worth a phone call to customer service to see if they could help me troubleshoot it. After about 25 minutes on the phone, they asked me to record video of troubleshooting and send it to them. When they saw the video, it’s was apparent how little we had used it and they offered to replace it free of charge even though it was outside of its warranty. At best I hoped they might offer to repair if I shipped it to them. It was a refreshing customer service experience.

This is one appliance I cannot function without. Got my 1st F/S probably 25 years ago, it sealed & sucked, this 5800 does so much more & I love every feature. Very compact, they have come a long way in 25 years. Spend the $$$ and you will save so much food & money in the end. Love my “Super Sucker”

Perfect solution for lazy home cooks like myself or anyone who has to buy things in bulk or cook in bulk. I cook for myself, because women seem to run away from me. Maybe it's my face. Because I have to cook for myself and I do not like to cook on daily basis one meal at a time, I much prefer to buy items in family size pack and cook all at once and store the rest. This helps me not only seal and seperate some meats individually for later use or cook bulk and seal them so they keep better. It does what it's intended for in my home. I chose this super expensive top of the line item from Foodsaver even though I am not exactly rolling in stack of dollar bills to be able to make it rain, because I have seen other products that require you to hold the bag straight while pulling down the cover and pressing buttons. I wanted to make sure I could make the seal perfectly each time and have the angle right so being able to use my hands to keep the bag straight and letting the machine do rest of the work was important. It seals in my opinion no faster than any of their other models. It is just the full automatic process that is a huge plus. It also has attachment for zipper bags and marinating food containers (this item comes with 1 marinating square container). It's handy for somethings if you have items you have to be able to open often and reseal. This would not work for you if you need a portable sealer. By no means is the attachment portable. Maintenance: There's drip tray you can easily pull and pour over sink. Changing the bag rolls is very easy. Just lift the top cover. You can then very quickly and easily swap out the 2 different size bags, one for the other. Tip: - I prefer to keep the larger bag roll in the machine. I just put the small one in there when I want to make some bags. I just bulk make smaller size bags and then replace the larger roll. - If you are considering buying portable food saver to vacuum seal zipper lock or "ziplock" bags, there is a very cheap alternative that you can buy. This is sort of a life hack. I am a wine drinker so I have an item called "Vacu Vin" it is only $15 and it comes with hand pump and 2 wine stoppers. This works absolutely well for vacuum sealing those bags. I have tried and all you need is a flat surface just as you would with the foodsaver one. - If you buy bacon or some other meats that you would like to be able to freeze individually without any freezer burns, this is a very good product. One thing about freezing bacon is if you don't seperate the slices before hand, it's hard to pull apart later. By laying out each slice in the bag and vacuum sealing it's very easy not only to seperate later, but also to thaw. It only takes few seconds to thaw slice of bacon if you do it the way I do.
