I’ve been using the same ancient Save n Seal for somewhere between 15 and 20 years and it’s still working, but when I saw this one I figured I’d get it just in case the inevitable should happen and my trusty Save n Seal should break down. This machine is hands down much better as far the power of the vacuum and the fact that it’s so much more automatic than my old vacuum packer. With the old one, I had to press down hard on the lid to make sure the seal would be good, and I had to watch for a little window to turn solid green to know as mauch air had been removed as possible. With this machine, all that is but a memory. You simply insert the bag, the machine senses it, clamps it in place, then you select the mode and once it’s lit, press the vacuum light. While it’s removing the air, the light fades in and out, then goes solid bright when it’s ready to seal. Press seal and the same thing happens. When it’s done, the lid opens automatically and it’s done. Making bags from a roll is much easier as well. For years I had to cut the right size from the roll with scissors as straight as I could, then seal one end, fill the bag, then seal it again. With this machine, the roll is stored right in the backk of the machine, open the hatch and feed out just enough to cover the sealing strip on the machine - seal it, then feed off as much bag as you like, seal it again (which gives your bottom seal on the next bag you make) then cut it with the bag cutter on the lid for a perfectly straight, square cut. Having the ability to vacuum pack liquids is a big plus… and you can do it without the old work arounds, like freezing the liquid in the bag first. Since the machine is much taller, the liquid stays in the lower part of the bag while you’re sealing the top. The vacuum, on the liquid mode setting, is gentle enough that it just sucks the excess air out without drawing any liquid into the machine. It works like a charm. The only thing I don’t like about this machine? It’s large and heavier. My old Save n Seal is small enough to stick in a cabinet over the stove. I just pick it up with one hand, wind the cord back up into the bottom recess with the other, then stow it away. It’s only slightly larger than a 150 count box of gallon size ziplock bags. This machine, on the other hand, is considerably larger and much heavier. To wind the cord back into the recess on the bottom to put the machine away, you have to lay it on its side on the counter and it’s a bit of a struggle. I don’t think it’s really designed to be put away and brought back out for use now and then. But who has counter space for a vacuum sealer this big? I sure don’t ... show more

    • Great sealer
I have a smaller sealer which I use all the time. But liquids, even just from raw meat, are always a problem. Because this is bigger and bulkier, it probably won't replace my use of the small one for quick packaging of leftovers. But for meal prepping, grocery bulk buying, and anything with soup this one will be my go-to item. Overall this is just a nicer version. The only things my old one has better is size because it was pretty tiny. But with tiny came a lot less functionality! This has a similar foot print as my other one, but is a lot taller and heavier. Since this stands so much taller than other models you can easily seal things with liquids such as soups and sauces. There are settings for wet foods, as well as the typical settings other ones have. It works great for sous vide, as well as for making large batches of soups or sauces to freeze for later. We used it for some chili and it works amazing. I absolutely could not have done that with my old one. I do have a bad habit of not reading directions, and this was pretty simple to figure out. I will of course later read them and discovered things but right out of the box you should be able to use this for basic things. It comes with a huge selection of bags and rolls to get you started. It also has the ability to seal a wine bottle or use a vacuum container with the attachment. This it going to be one of my new favorite things as we go into the fall and I start cooking more. Price on this model is pretty high. You can get cheap ones - but they don't typically last long. There are some great models that are still lower priced than this. The thing that makes this stand out over the rest is the ability to seal wet foods. There is nothing else even close to price that can do that from what I have seen. Something like this is an investment, and while it might not be necessary for everyone, for anyone who really loves to cook in volume or is into sous vide this is great. With the holidays coming up, this should be on some wish lists! ... show more

The media could not be loaded. I was favorably impressed by the FoodSaver Elite All-in-One Liquid+™ Vacuum Sealer. This is my first vacuum sealer and I found it easy to set up and use after watching the videos. Following my video review , I read in the manual that I should have frozen my meat for 1-2 hours prior to vacuum sealing to obtain a superior result. The one item which I could previously not identify is a wine or bottle stopper allowing you to remove air from the bottle. The “specialty” bags with the circle on them are reusable. At the time of this Sept 2023 review, the 3 pack of 11” x 16’ Foodsaver rolls sells for $33, the 12 count of one gallon FoodSaver bags sells for $9.79, and 44 of the FoodSaver Quart bags sells for $22. Some of these are available in greater quantities for less money per bag (or per roll foot.) The Foodsaver comes with a generous 5 year limited warranty.
