Turns your pvc lines black. I've had other UV lights that never did this and the water stayed crystal clear. This one does nothing for the color of the water but keep it green. $100 of Chlorine and none shows on test strips. No answer when asked about this or any warranty. The unit is abs plastic and is much more durable than the 36watt unit. They have improved the way to replace the light. Do not use the provided connectors as the hoses have a tendency to leak. Us pvc screw on fittings with 1in screw in thread for the 1in pvc hose. Make sure that the unit is installed as shown in the instructions so that the unit always has water in it so that the unit doesn't over heat if the pump stops. If the bulb over heats this will cause the bulb to fail sooner. The only issue is that there is no way to clean the glass sleeve. ... show more

I have a 400+ gallon plywood aquarium and have been struggling with algae/ green water. If your reading this you’ve probably done your fair share of research. You will still have algae (says that in description) but your water is going to be clear. Great for your aquatic life. no chemicals needed to obtain clear water. No leaks and works great. Set up was very easy.........but need better instructions.....there is a clear glass in the package that appears to be a viewing lenses to make sure the light is on and working....thought at first light came broken and not coming on. I then looked in the lenses (that I thought was a 2nd exit for flow) and saw the light was on. ... show more

Overall it is okay. Comparing to what you paid for, this item is fine. My first got burned, and I think the problem is from the inner glass crack. Amazon sent the replacement. The 2nd one has tiny leak at the adapter. I was able to find a way to resolve the issue. If I have enough cash, I would have bought a better one, but a 70 dollar + 54w UV light, this one is worth a try. ... show more

Water started to clear up but bulb burnt out after three days. Returning for a replacement. We will see if next one holds up. If not I will return for a refund.
