My daughter and I share a flat iron, and it does it's intended job. But it takes a few minutes for it to fully heat up, and it doesn't have the negative ion technology or the anti-frizz elements--leaving our hair staticy and frizzy. It also takes a few passes through the same strand of hair before it straightens/curls it. So when I found this iron/curler for $20, I decided to try it. First - much to my surprise, it arrived the very next day! So the shipping is FAST! Upon its arrival, the teenager and I plugged it in and noticed straight away that it instantly got hot. This is so helpful on school/work days, when we have limited time to do our hair before we need to head out the door. (I should also mention, I have very thick, coarse, curly hair, and my daughter has semi-thick, smooth, straight hair-so we were able to try it on two different hair types). This flat iron is a welcome upgrade from my older one. So far, it has worked wonderfully to straighten and curl thick, wavy, coarse, Asian hair. It's nice that the flat iron comes with a heat glove and two hair clips. Notable features include: long swivel cord (to avoid tangling), minimal one-button design with LED to read temperature, quick to heat up (60 seconds), auto-shut-off, and negative ion ceramic heat plates (anti-frizz). Because it's designed to click the buttons to use any of the five temperature settings, you have to lock the temperature (long press for 3 seconds) to prevent changing it whilst in use. I preferred using the lowest setting, 300 Fahrenheit for straightening my hair and reducing frizz. I love how pretty this flat iron is, the digital temperature screen and mostly that it comes with the glove and the clips to help you work on your hair safely - that comes from someone that use to burn herself every time I straighten my hair! Oh, and the lock feature is also super convenient. I use to need to wrap the cord around my flat iron to keep it closed so I could store it. Not anymore! This straightener works great. It heats up extremely fast and it does great at controlling my flyways. I have used it for both curling and straightening and it does fantastic for both. I was frustrated in the beginning because I did not read all of the specs and kept changing the temperature or turning it off while trying to use it, but then realized there is a lock option.
