This is the best value heater around. Worth every penny. The thermostat control works perfect in a deerstand. Keeps it comfortable all day long with little effort.

Lights easily by following instructions. The thermostat function is not quite an instant on or off. It seems to work better with each session of use but the fluttering is a bit disconcerting at 1st. So far I've only used it for a light demand on the enclosed porch to bring it up to 68 from high 40's & low 50's. Heat output is great, I set it to high just to see how quick it would heat up a 800cf porch from 48 to 68. Took maybe 10 minutes then I backed it down to 50% and it cycled on and off as advertised. Very quiet compared to the tower style propane heaters without a thermostat. The fan has marginal value but I wouldn't base my purchase on how that worked. The quick disconnect for a 20-30lb remote tank makes life easy also as opposed to changing 1lb tanks. Recommended side and front clearance is accurate for safety. This will definitely make morning coffee on the porch as the sun rises more pleasant in the winter. Worth the money! ... show more

Uses once leg broke right off. Fan has a wiring short. It's very loud when the thermostat kicks in and starts shutting the gas off. Does not stay on after about an hour. I emailed flame king about this and they never got back to me.

I bought this instead of the Big Buddy heater because this has a built in thermostat. Unfortunately, when I received the heater and read the instructions it stated this is for outdoor use only. Had I know that prior to purchase, I would have opted for the Mr. Heater Big Buddy instead.

This unit can take 2 - 1lb tanks or connect to a larger tank with the hose adaptor. It also has a Fan that blows the heat.

The media could not be loaded. Overall this seems to be a solid product - it feels well built and has great heat output. I will probably be returning it though. First, that sputtering noise people mention in some reviews is no joke. I like the thermostat in principle rather than having set output levels, but when the unit is transitioning from on to off or vice versa it’s pretty noisy, it’s like little explosions, as you can hear from the video. Second, on high some flames escape from the top of the unit, which worries me from a safety viewpoint. Also the fan doesn’t seem to do much - most of the heat still goes up (easy to see from exhaust shadows on a sunny day. That’s not necessarily bad but a lot of heat goes with it - it really needs something absorbing the heat from the exhaust before it leaves the tent. Waiting for Big Buddy to do a comparison. Edit: after getting a Big Buddy with fan I lowered star rating for this. They made a poor design choice. This heater is basically fully on, noisy, or off. The Big Buddy has two panels, they are both on, or one off one on, or only one half on. The fan also seems to work better on the Big Buddy, looking at the shadows of the heated air the Big Buddy fan pushes the heated air column more (still not much). This is probably because the fan vents on this heater are vertical, more esthetically pleasing but less functional than horizontal vents. Also the Big Buddy canister attachments swivel, making it easier to install the canisters. On this unit the canisters have to put in perfectly vertically. This unit has a better battery compartment though, it’s much easier to install the batteries here. If they put out a version of this with high medium low settings that turned on 3, 2, or 1 panel and made the fan vents horizontal it would be a much better competitor to the Big Buddy. ... show more

I really like this heater, being 20K BTU it comes in 2K more then Mr. Heater Big Buddy I really like the thermocoupler thermostat. I have modified mine by adding 18 inches of 6 awg copper wire and adding a clip for it so I can have it a little above the handle makes temperature control better. It's nice being able to have the unit come off and on instead of just on as for me as 4K BUT is not enough though out the night, but 9K gets to hot after a few hours. Some things that would be better, if the solenoid for the burner flow was fast acting as it is now, it closes and opens slowly causing prolonged sputtering. And change the thermocoupler +- 5 degrees instead of 2 degrees so it dose not cycle as fast. I have also been told by those under 40 that it makes a very annoying high pitch sound when running. ... show more

We are using it as a temp heat source. My husband showed me how to start it because it isn't as easy as other similar heaters.
