This worked perfectly for both of the typewriters that I replaced the ribbons on. I reused the original metal spools on the machines, all I had to do was to take the ribbon off of the plastic spools it came with and rewind it back on the original. This ribbon DOES have the grommet needed for the Royal. Fit exactly, nice crisp letters.

    • Almost perfect
I ordered these spools because I had newly purchased both a 1954 Royal Quiet De Luxe and a 1967 Royalite (technically an ultra-portable). The spools fit great, but one important hiccup occurred with the Royalite - these ribbons do not have grommets/eyelets, which prevents the automatic ribbon reverse from happening. I had to swap that ribbon out to the De Luxe with manual ribbon reverse, and put one with grommets from another company in the Royalite. It's unfortunate because the holes in the spool were perfect for the spool holders, and the other company's were a bit wobbly due to their "universal" nature. So if you have a Royal portable with a manual ribbon reverse, I absolutely recommend these. If your typewriter uses an automatic reverse, I would probably pass. Thankfully I have more machines with the manual reversal so they won't go to waste. ... show more
