Description

Featuring a low profile, contemporary design, the First Alert PRC710 Slim Photoelectric Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarm with 10 Year Battery provides the same protection as a standard smoke alarm while taking up only a fraction of the space. This slim, battery operated smoke detector requires no hardwiring for installation, making it an ideal solution for those who want to enhance fire safety without hiring an electrician. It features a built in 10 year lithium ion battery that provides continuous power for up to a decade. Equipped with an ultra reliable photoelectric sensor, the smoke alarm detects smoke from slow burning, smoldering fires while keeping false alarms to a minimum. A patented smoke entry system further enhances the detector's reliability by providing a direct path to the smoke sensor. The unit also features an advanced electrochemical sensor that detects carbon monoxide leaks from multiple sources such as faulty fuel burning appliances and blocked chimneys. The simple twist lock mounting system installs easily onto a wall or ceiling, while the tamper resistant locks help prevent removal of the battery to keep the alarm secure. Half as thick as a standard alarm, the smoke detector has a sleek, slim design that blends in seamlessly with most decor. A loud 85 decibel alarm sounds when smoke is detected, and a convenient test/silence button lets you easily check alarm function and mute false alarms. TROUBLESHOOTING STEPS: Activating the battery. Mount alarm to mounting bracket to activate. Once unit is activated, it cannot be turned off. NOTE: After you activate the battery, the power indicator light may flash. (If the unit alarms, the light will blink rapidly, and the horn will repeatedly sound 3 beeps, pause, 3 beeps.) Once the Smoke Alarm is on the bracket, you can rotate the Alarm to adjust the alignment. Clean the Smoke/CO Alarm at least once a month; gently vacuum the outside of the Smoke/CO Alarm using your household vacuum’s soft brush attachment. A can of clean compressed air may also be used. Follow manufacturer instructions for use. Test the Smoke/CO Alarm. Never use water, cleaners or solvents since they may damage the unit. If the Smoke/CO Alarm becomes contaminated by excessive dirt, dust and/or grime, and cannot be cleaned to avoid unwanted alarms, replace the unit immediately. DO NOT LOCATE THIS SMOKE/CO ALARM: In garages, furnace rooms, crawl spaces and unfinished attics. Avoid extremely dusty, dirty or greasy areas. Where combustion particles are produced. Combustion particles form when something burns. Areas to avoid include poorly ventilated kitchens, garages, and furnace rooms. Keep units at least 20 feet (6 meters) from the sources of combustion particles (stove, furnace, water heater, space heater) if possible. In areas where a 20-foot (6 meter) distance is not possible – in modular, mobile, or smaller homes, for example – it is recommended the Smoke Alarm be placed as fa from these fuel-burning sources as possible. The placement recommendations are intended to keep these Alarms at a reasonable distance from a fuel-burning source, and thus reduce “unwanted” alarms. Unwanted alarms can occur if a Smoke Alarm is placed directly next to a fuel-burning source. Ventilate these areas as much as possible. Within 5 feet (1.5 meters) of any cooking appliance. In air streams near kitchens. Air currents can draw cooking smoke into the smoke sensor and cause unwanted alarms. In extremely humid areas. This Alarm should be at least 10 feet (3 meters) from a shower, sauna, humidifier, vaporizer, dishwasher, laundry room, utility room, or other source of high humidity. In direct sunlight. In turbulent air, like near ceiling fans or open windows. Blowing air may prevent CO or smoke from reaching the sensors. In areas where temperature is colder than 40˚ F (4.4˚ C) or hotter than 100˚F (37.8˚ C). These areas include non-airconditioned crawl spaces, unfinished attics, uninsulated or poorly insulated ceilings, porches, and garages. In insect infested areas. Insects can clog the openings to the sensing chamber. Less than 12 inches (305 mm) away from fluorescent lights. Electrical “noise” can interfere with the sensor. In “dead air” spaces. See “Avoiding Dead Air Spaces”.

  • Y0U MUST PUSH UP THE TAB
Style: Standard Detection Pattern Name: PRC710
I have this 4 stars because NOWHERE in the documentation does it say that, before you mount the smoke detector to the base (after installing the base in the ceiling) that you have to remove the shipping separator and then PUSH THE TAB IN THE DEACTIVATE DIRECTION UNTIL IT CHIRPS. It's kind of a critical step since if you don't do that, it won't activate and when you press the test button nothing happens. I had to Google it to find out. Also, I received the PR1210 instead of the PRC710 I ordered but they seem comparable so I went ahead and installed it. ... show more

  • Holy Jumpin' Jehosepher!!!
Style: Standard Detection Pattern Name: PRC710
And up I jumped out of bed, practically having a heart attack! This thing didn't make a sound, not a peep for the last two years of my diligent monthly tender loving care, testing and cleaning There it was with it's cute little occasional blink of it's green light, letting me know every things okay. How safe and secure I felt, that is, until it had a total nervous system break down. It was yelling and screaming at me unrelentless, not one beep, not two, not three, not even four, just constant screeching in my ears. The family was still in a tither even though we practiced time and time again. The supposed real deal was a bit different for each person. I'm glad I kept my cool. Down I brought it from the ceiling where it lived for the past two years and other old timers had lived there also for the past15. Follow the instructions, Dave, I said, to myself, as the rest of my family headed for the hills preparing to call the fire dept. Ok, ok! break tab and move switch to deactivate position. Hell! that was already done! What? Well why is it still going wild. I switched it to activate and it shut off. Certainly, naturally, you have to use your head in these type of situations. Wasn't that clever of me. Now in the new house of Poltergeist, I was using the advise the hero (The Rock) gave to his wife in Skyscraper. Switch it off, then switch it on, best way to fix all tech problems in a jiff, only with this I was switching it on to switch it off, it still didn't shut off completely and sounded off, every once in a while until I demolished it with my sledge hammer. I'll be calling now for a new, free of charge device, seeing it want hysterical, beyond belief on me. Here it come's all the questions and answers, they feed me, until I'm not believing it even happened. I bought the three pack and expect three new ones not one. I' mean I should have to go to bed each night, now wondering if the others are going to do the same thing. They certainly came from the same batch. I'll be expecting a run around about that, also. It's actually still moaning occasionally . It lasted one fifth of the ten years it was suppose to and they wanted me to rate it about a week after I bought it. Ha! I think you know what i have to say about this little device. It felt like the, Attack of the Machines, if there is such a movie. Wow! today I just got a glimpse of the future. DMA ... show more

  • What a brilliant battery idea!
Style: Standard Detection Pattern Name: PRC710
Smoke detectors have a 10 year life to begin with, these also detect CO2, plus, you NEVER have to change a battery and when their time has come to end of life it lets you know, ingenious. These are a MUST HAVE for everyone and you never will have to change a 9 volt battery again or listen to a nerve wrecking beep AND these have the new laser smoke detection, so no false alarms from burnt toast!!! GREAT PRODUCT! I even bought several for my senior parents and changed out their old ones, of which some were laying on the counter, with the 9 volt battery removed from false and annoying beeps, the old ones were in the trash immediately. Easy to install for anyone, simple to read instructions. ... show more
