  • Quite literally saved my house. I can recommend this!
Size: 4 PACK Product Packaging: HOME1
Some punk idiots drove by my house a few days after 4th of July and threw a powerful mortar firework out into the street, then quickly drove off. It erupted in a giant fireball that sent bouncing smaller fireballs into my yard which caught my dried up summer lawn grass on fire. Within 2 minutes a fire had engulfed an 12 X 18 foot section of my front yard and was rapidly headed towards my front steps (and arborvitae near the front of house). Thank God there are still some Good Samaritans in the world! This other car with 3 good hearted citizens driving by (a minute after the punk pyromaniacs left) saw what was happening, pulled over, got out of their vehicle and pounded loudly on my door to get my attention. I took one look, grabbed this First Alert Home fire extinguisher from the kitchen and I was able to put out 4/5ths of my lawn fire -- quickly and immediately. Like within 1 min. The rest I took care of with the garden hose and the Fire Dept. came by and made doubly sure everything was doused. This was all caught on security camera but my camera system is not precise enough to show the jerk's license plates at night. In any event the Good Samaritans also helped me with my garden hose, called 911, and tried stomping things out. I and my wife owe them a mega nice dinner and hugs all around if they ever show up again. They, and this fire extinguisher, quite literally saved my family, our cats and our home. THE GOOD NEWS: I bought my 4-pack of this product in December 2018. This fire incident was on 7/14/2023. I got in the habit of occasionally checking the dial every 3 months or so. Do this! It was in the Green (Charged) range when I needed it FOUR AND A HALF YEARS LATER!! A great product, but with any extinguisher, don't leave it to chance. Think about it: What does it cost you? a mere 10 seconds? to pick it up your fire extinguisher dial every 3 months and confirm the needle is still in the green area? Other thoughts: IF you have financial means and can afford to, it's not a bad idea to take your family out into the yard or street and - just once - have them waste an extinguisher to demo the steps of activating (pulling the metal PIN) and using (spraying) one of these. I have a total of 6 of these stashed all over our house - main level and the basement. One is located in, or just outside each bedroom. One in the Kitchen (which is the one that saved my house), one on the basement landing, one by the dryer, you get the idea. Screw the aesthetics! THIS IS THE BEST SAFETY VALUE FOR THE BUCK YOU CAN DO FOR YOURSELF: Scatter these ALL OVER your house and cultivate a counting / placement memory recall game with your family where you have them recite / name where each one and every extinguisher is in your house. You think I'm crazy but I felt very empowered putting out that fire by myself. We have 2 pets that are precious to us, so it's not just can WE get out of the house, it's can they. Preparation goes a long way to reduce horror and panic. In the larger scheme of things I may go to a stone / yucca / succulent type lawn. We'll see. Most people will waste more money on lottery tickets or coffees than this 4 pack of extinguishers costs. Just buy it and train your family about these. NOTE: While theoretically, fire extinguishers can be recharged. I've never seen or known where to go to do that. I consider these consumer level rigs i.e. one-time use disposable items. YMMV. In closing: There are still good people in the world!!! and Do For Yourself and your family! Peace, Love, Dove. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ADDENDUM: (This section I updated 7-29-2023 it's tedious and boring, you have been warned! : ) Like another Amazon poster here said, when you are in a panic, you DON'T want to be fighting that plastic strap retainer thingy that BLOCKS YOU from pulling out the metal pin for the spray trigger. AND YET ---> The manufacturer instructions state: (I quote) "DO NOT CHECK THE PRESSURE OR TEST THE FIRE EXTINGUISHER BY SQUEEZING THE LEVER. EVEN BRIEFLY. ONCE USED, IT WILL GRADUALLY LOSE PRESSURE AND WILL NOT BE FULLY CHARGED FOR USE IN AN EMERGENCY" So, it's to your benefit that the steel PIN stays in place (seated, blocking the trigger from moving) until you are ready to pull it in an emergency. And yet: If you were elderly or arthritic, you'd never have the strength to deal with breaking through that strap in a panic! So, the dilemma: without any retainer strap at all, you risk bumping the spray handle and doing a false trigger if the PIN falls out - because without the retainer to keep it in place, the PIN could come out and at that point the extinguisher is - more or less "armed". WHAT TO DO? MY SOLUTION, WHAT I DID (I CAN'T SPEAK FOR YOUR SITUATION, YMMV) ---> I cut the white plastic retainer strap BUT, I * also * immediately created/fashioned "kludge" -- a weaker PIN retainer out of an 8 inch piece scotch tape that has a single wind of sticky tape wrapped around the pin. Each end of the scotch tape affixes to the body of the extinguisher. I.e. something, just enough to keep the pin from falling out. Yet it is not going to be some major hassle if you need to get the pin out in a hurry. The only reason to I would ever have to keep that white plastic strap from the factory on is for shipping or maybe on a boat, or if you have little kids. But kids should learn this is not a toy. ... show more

  • Appear to be well made
Size: 2PACK Product Packaging: HOME1
Thankfully, I have never had to use these and cannot attest to their efficacy. However, they appear to be solidly made, are from a reputable manufacturer, have a pressure gauge indicating their state of readiness, and can easily be mounted on a wall using either the supplied strap or screw in mount. A good thing to have near the kitchen and in the garage just in case. ... show more

I bought this a few years ago when my niece had a house fire. I wanted to be prepared and n case we also had a fire. I hung it on the wall and actually forgot about it. Then yesterday our stove burner caught fire! I'm not sure what caused it but luckily my teenage son quickly remembered the fire extinguisher and put it out. I returned to buy the same product again because I know for sure it works! ... show more

  • Definitely Works
Size: 4 PACK Product Packaging: HOME1
I literally used one of these about a month after I purchased it! Follow your intuition folks!! It had been on my mind to purchase fire extinguishers for a while. It's sad to say, but I have never ever purchased any before. Thankfully I never needed one. Well, I put them in my cart and forgot to go back and purchase them until I walked in on a phone call with my son and ex-husband. For some reason, they were talking about fire extinguishers. I immediately went back to my cart and purchased. A month later the air fryer caught on fire! Thankfully I had a fire extinguisher! It was easy to use as a 1st timer! If you are reading this, take it as a sign that you need to purchase. You just never know if you will need one!! ... show more
