  • Good purchase
Works really well

  • Finally a good CO monitor
I bought this after buying four cheesy units that were advertised (@ $55) for home CO monitoring. The other units came with poor instructions, worse execution and constantly gave false alarms. This unit by Klein tools is built solid, instructions were simple, clear and easy to use and the unit gave rapid and accurate readings. Excellent ... show more

  • UL listed CO detectors stink
Regular CO detectors are not allowed to alarm until the CO level is dangerously high. This device helped me when my furnace decided to stop burning cleanly.

  • Affordable Meter - Still have anxiety
Overall, I like this item and it seems to give reliable readings. But the accuracy is questionable at times, as some other reviews have noted. First, there definitely seems to be about a 20 second delay at all times. I can walk behind my running car with the device, and roughly 15-20 seconds later, the readings clearly jump to 20-40 ppm. Walking into a clean space seems to be a quicker response. Often less than 10 seconds. I have had a couple odd moments where my parking garage registers zero ppm. This would be impossible. I've come to the odd conclusion with this device that parking lots have terrible air, even though they're outdoors. Walking through a busy mall parking lot, I got a jump to 50ppm on this device, but in my ENCLOSED parking garage, I've never once seen a reading above 20ppm. Thank goodness for HVAC I guess. I've also seen a few odd moments where the clean air in my home will jump from 0ppm to 3ppm and instantly back down to 0. I wonder what this means. Just a possible "waft" of CO? I'd also recommend that the engineers who developed this device consider de-coupling the Max/Average clear button. Just because I want to clear the Max doesn't mean I want to clear my Average. Does that make sense? ... show more

  • Simple to use
At about 2am one morning, the CO alarm in my camper started howling, forcing an immediate evacuation of the camper. Since I couldnt locate the source of the issue in the middle of the night, the decision was made (at 2am) to abort the trip and head home. 3 hours later, we pulled back into our driveway, and before collapsing into bed, I jumped online to locate: 1- info about CO leaks, and 2- a CO leak detector. Having had good success with other Klein products, this one was a no-brainer. Easy to operate and understand, i was able to troubleshoot the leak issue in my camper in short order. This tool will accompany me on future trips, just in case. ... show more

  • good thing to have
we had our AC/heater unit inspected, they guy turned on the furnace and measured carbon monoxide with his unit and claimed he read 13ppm, and already sent us a quote for 15k to change the furnace to a new one. We were a bit shocked of course. We decided to double-check it ourselves and got this unit. We got it and, first of all, I wanted to make sure that it actually can detect carbon monoxide. We made sure to follow the instructions and we even turned and unit on and did the self-calibration (set button) outside, to make sure that it is calibrated in a space without any carbon monoxide. To get a positive control I lit a candle and blew it out. That first moment after a candle is blow out and you see a smoke, there is definitely some carbon monoxide forms. And, indeed, the unit went off. Showed something like 150 ppm (I put the meter right where the smoke from the candle was). In the rooms the reading was just zero. I was repeating these measurements in the rooms to make sure it is still zero, and it was. One time when I was messing around with it, I decided to breath on it just for fun, and it measured 3 ppm of carbon monoxide. I didn't know whether human breath supposed to have any, so I googled it and I saw that human breath for non-smoker should have 1 - 6ppm carbon monoxide. That was a cool observation, because it meant that the unit is indeed sensitive. So, since it so far looks that the unit is capable of measuring high (candle) and low(breath) amounts of carbon monoxide, and it still shows 0 ppm in our rooms, I think we won't be spending 15k for new furnace for now. ... show more
