This heavy-duty, all-metal First Alert HOME2 Fire Extinguisher features a commercial-grade metal valve and trigger. It's UL rated 2-A: 10-B: C and meets minimum 2-A: 10-B: C code requirements for fighting wood, paper, fabric, flammable-liquid, and live electrical-equipment fires. The color-coded gauge provides accurate measurement to ensure the extinguisher is ready to use in an emergency, and the metal pull pin and safety seal help prevent accidental discharge and discourage tampering. A bracket and strap are included for secure mounting. The chemical-resistant and waterproof label features easy-to- read instructions and won't deteriorate over time. I bought this for my shop for peace of mind. I have not had to use it, which is exactly how I want things to stay, but the quality and setup are both reassuring. Mounting to the wall was straightforward, the bracket lined up well, and once it was on the wall the canister seated securely. The gauge arrived in the green and has stayed there through a couple of cold snaps and warm afternoons. Pros: • It is rechargeable. In my area a recharge runs about twenty five to thirty dollars, so I would rather service a solid extinguisher than keep buying disposables. • It is a multipurpose dry chemical unit, so it covers the common shop risks like ordinary combustibles, flammable liquids, and live electrical equipment - perfect for my shop. • Build feels right for shop use. The pin and seal are cleanly installed, and the canister finish looks durable. How I set it up: • I mounted it near the exit (right next to the door) so I can move toward the door while pulling it down. • I wrote the purchase date on an inspection tag and hung it next to the bracket. • I put a calendar reminder on my phone to glance at the gauge monthly. • I gave it a light shake to keep the powder from packing, which is a good habit for dry chemical units. (someone gave me this advice) I did all those things so I don't forget about it and it ends up failing when I would actually need it. Having it at the door makes sure I at least have to see it daily. The date on the unit lets me keep track of when it might need a recharge. The reminder (and the shake) will happen on the regular, ensure it will be ready if/when I need it. What stands out day to day • The gauge is easy to read at a glance. • The handle and pin feel smooth when I practice the pull aim squeeze sweep routine. • The size is manageable enough that anyone in the family can grab it quickly. Overall, this is exactly what I wanted for the shop. It mounted easily, looks and feels well made, and it is rechargeable so I am not throwing money at replacements. I wanted to address several negative issues that were voiced by previous customers. Specifically, the "loose" pin that is removed to activate the handle AND, the wall bracket. Here's what I found on the fire extinguisher I received. The activation pin is held in by a small plastic break-through line that keeps the pin from inadvertently falling out. In a fire emergency, the pin could easily be pulled out and doesn't need to be cut to activate the extinguisher. Yes, if you cut the line, the pin is not a tight fit. You don't want it to be a tight fit. Some reviews had mentioned a "cheap plastic bracket". There is a very stout metal hanger that is included with the fire extinguisher. It has two verticaly oriented screw mounting holes(screws not included). The hanger should be mounted against a stud, in an open and easy to get to location. The exteinguisher weighs almost 9 lbs so do not use molly screws/bolts, toggle bolts, or anything that just uses the sheetrock for support. There is also a plastic ring that holds the rubber nozzle in close the extinguisher body. You slip it on from the top and position it to hold the hose nozzle close to the body. ... show more
