  • Single use, heavy and cumbersome
Size: 3-story homes (24 feet)
I did a lot of research to learn about different Escape ladders. I noticed that quite a few said they were single use and this one is supposed to be able to be used more than once, but it is not designed for that. Once the ladder gets packed from its original compact size , I don't think it would be possible to bundle it back up and store it properly to deploy it correctly. I also called the company and they said it was a single use ladder . I discovered that this ladder will not work with my current window setup and ended up returning it unfortunately. That is no fault of the company or the design, it's just the way my window situation is. I'm giving it four stars because I found the ladder to be very heavy and cumbersome and it seemed unlikely that I would be able to heave it up over a window sill and get it installed even if my window set up was designed for it. The ladder looks extremely durable and well made. Just make sure you do plenty of research and take lots of measurements before you order any escape ladder. ... show more

  • Looks fantastic

Just can’t tell you how it works in an emergency and hope to never be able to, but it looks like it will do the job and will give you better footing because of the spacer on the steps.

  • Better than immolation.... but
Size: 3-story homes (24 feet)
First off, selling a "single use" ladder for $120+ and recommending people buy 2 so they can try one out then throw it away is... still better than a fiery death, but..... So, go ahead and open up the box and take a look at the hooks, put them on your windowsill and ask yourself if everyone but you has 12"+ thick walls. If you don't, this does not sit at a reassuring angle, especially if you plan to climb over it onto the ladder. If your interior trim stands proud of the wall that could be the only thing the tops of the hooks are touching, and possibly not the sort of carpentry you want to stake your life on. I, personally, did not get on this until I had added a few 2x4's to the window and some tubing clamps around the hooks, then I started up from the bottom. I'm still alive BTW. The treads on this are wide enough, sturdy, and the stand-off pegs on either side are effective and a big improvement. That said, if you deploy this ladder above another window, and try to climb down with a quickness, I wouldn't be surprised if the ladder & your feet went through said window, so maybe don't use this barefoot- The other surprising factor is that the webbing used to hold the treads has a noticeable amount of stretch, more than a few inches. Maybe adrenaline will help you ignore this, but the whole experience is pretty bouncy moving slowly, probably more when you speed up. Lastly, the reason they tell you to chuck this after trying it (not a quality judgment!), is that they think the average human can't possibly figure-out how to re-pack this the way they found it-- which is folded in half with feet pointing out, and the webbing carefully folded towards the center when two treads are pushed together. It's your life, any good reason you would be careless putting this back in the box? Save the box, look at how it is packed, take a picture. If you want to use this again after trying it, understand there are a half-dozen ways you are taking your life in your hands, and carefully repacking it is only one of them . So, better than waiting for someone else to save you? Yes. Something that will work the way you hope first time in a super stressful situation? No Should you buy it? Maybe make it plan B.... or plan C. ... show more

Very pleased with this. My son is on the third floor and this is more than enough length for him to get out of the house 😊

  • Packaging is cheap and unsafe
Size: 3-story homes (24 feet)
I don’t know how well the product itself works, and I hope I never find out, but the packaging is cheap and unsafe. The ladder is very heavy and the box comes with an embedded plastic carrying handle. I ordered 3. One came with the handle already broken. The second and third broke while I was carrying them upstairs. Luckily they didn’t land on my foot and break my toes. It’s shocking that a safety product would cheap out and have such unsafe packaging. ... show more
