Description

Scotts® WeedEx™ Prevent with Halts® prevents crabgrass and other problem weeds for a beautiful lawn all season long. In early spring, apply when the lawn is dry to prevent the germination of crabgrass, foxtail, spurge, barnyardgrass, fall panicum, and oxalis. Apply in the fall (August-October) to prevent moss (except in California), or to prevent the germination of Poa annua, henbit, corn speedwell, and chickweed. We recommend using a Scotts® spreader to apply this product. For Scotts® broadcast/rotary spreaders, use a setting of 2 ¼. For Scotts® drop spreaders, use a setting of 4 ½. For Scotts® Wizz®, use a setting of 3 ¼. For best results, the lawn should receive ¼ to ½ inch of water from rainfall or watering within 2-3 days after application. Rain, snow, or freezing weather after application will not affect performance. This product controls crabgrass in its early stages of growth. It does not control mature crabgrass and other existing weeds. Do not apply to Dichondra and Bentgrass. One 10.06 lb. bag of Scotts® WeedEx™ Prevent with Halts® covers 5,000 sq. ft.

  • Great Crabgrass Preventer
Works well on my yard. Crabgrass is a difficult weed to combat.

  • Seems to work if you apply it early in the season (it's a pre-emergant)
I applied this to part of my lawn in early April, though I should have done it in early March since it's a pre-emergent herbicide. It's now late June and it's clear this did reduce the amount of crabgrass in my lawn where it was applied. The crabgrass is completely gone from some areas where it had totally taken over. You can see a clear line between where I applied it, and my neighbor did not. Where the crabgrass grew soonest (a really warm area at the south of a building) it didn't work as well, but that was probably because I didn't apply it soon enough. My only complaint, is that the application instructions are for a Scott's applicator, and I had to calculate settings for my spreader. Bottom line... the entire lawn is getting covered next year in March. Be sure to check their website for info on when to apply in your region. ... show more

  • It seems to have worked!
I was actually surprised at how well it worked. My lawn is always rampant with weeds, but not now. It was put out early in March, about 4 weeks ago and all good so far.

  • Does not work for my needs
Does not kill weeds, just prevent new ones. It says it on the back of the package in small print. I don’t recall reading it on here. I need something serious to kill my crab grass.

  • Only 1 application per year.
Been trying to get rid of crabgrass for years. Decided to try this approach. just put down last week so too early to tell. I liked the season long longevity of this product.

  • accurate @ 5,000 sq ft
I was particularly concerned about coverage, because these bags are small and the product is not cheap. I've got an old Scotts Accugreen 1000 drop spreader that hasn't always given me consistent performance, but this time I got 5,000 sq ft per bag, as advertised. I first checked the calibration of the spreader's shutoff bar, as described on the Scotts web site. After doing that, I noticed something that I never had before. The "micrometer" on the handle that is used to dial in the numeric setting for each product does not reliably hold that setting on my old machine. Every time that I open and close the shutoff bar using the control lever, as in each time that I reverse direction, the "micrometer" inches a bit looser. A short piece of adhesive tape fixed that. I just happened to apply this pre-emergent weed control under nearly ideal spring conditions, so I won't know its effectiveness for months, but I am hopeful. Update: In 2022 I got good -- not excellent -- results using Scotts WeedEx Prevent with Halts. In 2023, I found what looks like a comparable product, Spectracide Weed Stop plus Crabgrass Preventer for 1/3 less than the price of the Scotts product. Spectracide is not an off-brand. Again, I was able to apply it under nearly ideal spring conditions. By summer, it was clear that Spectracide performed every bit as well as Scotts, which is to say about 85% effective. I spray broadleaf weeds that pop up during the season with Ortho Weed B Gon. I've still got a few woody-stemmed weeds like black medic that seem to resist all chemicals that I put down. I pull these up by hand, which is in itself a gratifying exercise, and I believe that after a few years of this mixed strategy I have mostly gotten ahead of them. ... show more

  • Scott’s is the best
I apply Scott’s pre-emergent in late winter and in the fall on my Bermuda and Zoysia lawn. My yard is the envy of the neighborhood. Of course, I also use a high nitrogen fertilizer and an occasional fungicide when needed.
