  • Disappointed
I have used other fire starters in the past. I purchase this specifically for my solo tabletop fire pit. They take a lot of time to create flame which defeats its purpose in my opinion.

  • Decent burn time, a bit difficult to get lit
These arrived just in time for me to start our first fire in the wood stove for the season. I’ll ignore the fact that they misspelled “fire starters” on the outside of the box. I’m pretty sure we all know what they meant. I was a little surprised at how compact the size of the box was to hold 60 fire starters, but these are just slightly larger than a quarter. Each fire starting cube or “coin” is between the size of a quarter and 50 Cent piece. When I took the first one out, I tried to squeeze it and bend it through the little bag or pouch that it was in to determine if they were wet or dry. They seemed pretty solid and dry, so I chose to keep it in the plastic bag to light it. Maybe I should’ve taken it out, but this is how I chose to try to start it. I’m used to buying the fire starters that come in a small triangle shape but are around 8 inches long. I take a machete and cut them into three-quarter inch pieces so they are pretty similar to the same size as these particular fire starters. I then put them in a little plastic pail with a lid on it and put about a half inch of kerosene in the bottom of the pail. This allows the fire starters to soak up the kerosene and they ignite really nicely. Because that’s what I am accustomed to, this seems like it was difficult to light. In reality, I only had to hold a lighter to it for about 8 to 10 seconds before it ignited. Once it was lit, it did exactly what it should do. A long, slow burn that ignited my kindling and I was able to get a nice fire going in no time. I marked this down by one star just because it seems like they should have a little bit of an accelerant such as kerosene in them so that they would light easier. I assume there might be some sort of a law against shipping them if they were like that, however. I will likely open up a handful of these at a time and dump them in my bucket with some kerosene in the bottom of it just so they will ignite a bit more quickly for me. Ultimately, though, I am satisfied with these and they do the job they are intended to do. Considering a box of 60 of these will probably last me five years, I consider it to be a good bargain for the price. Once we light our woodstove, it generally is burning nonstop all winter, unless we go out of town for a few days. A woodstove is our primary source of heat, our furnace only kicks in when it is very cold or we are out of town. These will be a handy little accessory to get our fires going when we need to. If you’re on the fence about ordering these, I recommend you do. You won’t regret it. ... show more

  • One and done
I use these Fire Pit Starters in my small fire pit and all it takes is one starter to get it going. For such small pods, I am impressed with how well they work to ignite the kindling and wood. I hold a flame to the starter for a few seconds, once it catches, I sit back and watch as the rest of the wood ignites. No more fussing with paper or lighter fluid. The starters burn cleanly, well, and easily. It’s such a welcome treat to pop one of these starters in and within minutes have a beautifully lit fire pit that I can relax and enjoy without tending to it endlessly. For larger fire pits multiple starter pods will be needed, but the package comes with 60 so there are enough for several uses. ... show more

  • Easy to Use and Effective, But Expensive
The Solo Stove Mesa Fire Pit Starters are a convenient and effective way to light your Solo Stove Mesa fire pit. They are made from natural hardwood and paraffin wax, and they light quickly and easily. Each starter lasts for about 20 minutes, so you can get your fire going quickly and easily, even in windy conditions. I found that the Solo Stove Mesa Fire Pit Starters are very effective at lighting my Solo Stove Mesa fire pit. They light quickly and easily, and they produce a good flame that helps to build the fire. I also like that the starters are made from natural materials, so I don't have to worry about any harmful chemicals being released into the air. However, the Solo Stove Mesa Fire Pit Starters are quite expensive. A box of 60 starters costs around $20, which is about $0.33 per starter. This is more expensive than some other fire starters on the market, such as newspaper or kindling. Overall, I think the Solo Stove Mesa Fire Pit Starters are a good product. They are easy to use and effective, but they are also quite expensive. If you are looking for a convenient and hassle-free way to light your Solo Stove Mesa fire pit, then the Solo Stove Mesa Fire Pit Starters are a good option. However, if you are on a budget, then you may want to consider using a less expensive fire starter. Pros: Easy to use Effective at lighting Solo Stove Mesa fire pits Made from natural materials Cons: Expensive Overall: I give the Solo Stove Mesa Fire Pit Starters 4 out of 5 stars. They are a convenient and effective way to light your Solo Stove Mesa fire pit, but they are also quite expensive. ... show more

  • Tiny but effective
I got these to reduce the need for kindling when starting a real wood firepit in the backyard and eventually starters for my real wood home fireplace. The first thing I noticed when they arrived is that the packaging had a misspelling of 'starter'. I see there's a message in the description stating they were aware of the printer's error and are fixing it. It just made me laugh. Anyway, the starters themselves are tiny; roughly the diameter of a US quarter and about 4 times the thickness. I put 4 of these around a teepee of 2-3" sticks and lit the starters; they burn hot and in no time had produced enough flame to start the teepee. They are not as effective as other starters I have used solely because of their size, but I can definitely see the convenience if you are a backpacking camper and need a small and convenient fire starter. I wouldn't buy again for my planned use, but again, nothing wrong with them, just wrong for me. ... show more
