I have two dogs who have free run of a big back yard area and a dog door. If you remember the Peanuts comic character "Pig Pen," that describes my dogs. They are a blur of motion covered in dust as they fly through the dog door at full speed. I bought these filters to go into one of 3DHandyMan's filtration units, and the air quality of my home has improved DRAMATICALLY. The only downside is that the majority of particulates they're bringing into the house are much larger than what these filters are designed to handle, causing the pleats to get clogged with fine dust. I tried putting a silkscreen mesh over the inlet side of the filters, but the mesh size I chose (while effective at catching dog fluff) is larger than the main dust particulates they track into the house. Every week or so I use a high-powered shop vacuum to suck the layer of dust that gets caught on the outside of the filter, and that improves their performance for another week, but this is tedious. The filtration unit I use from 3DHandyMan has the option to use 2" filters, which generally have fewer pleats (less overall filter surface area) so he provides filter clips for both 1" and 2" filters. When I need to replace these MPR 2800 MERV14 filters again, I intend to also buy a set with lower MPR and MERV values, tape them together to form one 2" filter with a sacrificial outer filter that catches all those larger particulates, while not overloading the finer filter behind it. I think that will work nicely for my needs. If you have severe allergies, immune deficiencies, or less-messy animals, I could see these filters as being a MAJOR improvement to your home's central HVAC filter panels. ... show more

This is a AMAZING filter from Filtrete. I currently live with a stubborn pack a day smoker that refuses to go outside to smoke. Unfortunately I currently live in dallas,tx where its unbearably hot outside ten months out of the year, so opening up a window to air out the two bedroom apartment i live in is not a option. The central air always runs which stirs the smoke to every room of the apartment (including mine.) So after researching HEPA air purifiers, a suitable purifier was $500+, which is out of the question currently. I found " Toms Beter Box Fan" website where he had instructions on how to make a DIY Box Fan purifier for the cost of two filters and a box fan. I decided to make one. Some people put a 20x20x1 filter on the back of the fan and call it good, not the best idea. The cheapo motors on a Walmart box fan are not designed to take the strain. So to solve this you simply take two 20x25x1 filters and "hinge" them together onto the intake side of the box fan, cut & tape cardboard from your amazon box onto the top of the filters creating a tight seal. BOOM a DIY Purifier for ~$50! I WAS SO HAPPY when Filtrete came out with these 2800 series filters! The highest quality available in these sizes that are capable of filtering tobacco smoke! Also i loved the 2 pack they come in (perfect for my double filter box fan.) After the 2 pack filters arrived all i needed was some white gorilla duct tape, box fan, knife and 30mins to create my air purifier. These filters work on ULTRAFINE PARTICALS like smoke, smog and 2.5m pollution. After running my better box fan in the smokers room for a just a hour the air cleared and could just see the tar and yellow filth on the filter surface. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS 2800 SERIES FILTERS! We have been using Filtrete filters since 97. Over the years we’ve tried different brands and they were all inferior. I remember the days when 1200 was the best you could get. We’ve always moved up to the highest number as they released them. Our house is now 26 years old. The air ducts and air handler/furnace have never been cleaned before. I just checked everything thoroughly and it’s all pretty much spotless. At 23 years old the blower motor burned out. I replaced that in less than an hour for $200. Our entire AC system is original to the house and is still going strong. So don’t believe the rumors of it destroying your system. I also believe the large 20x30 filter size helps alleviate this issue somewhat. If your system wasn’t installed properly, yes this filter could expose that. There is a big improvement between this and the 2200 even though they look almost identical. It has great flow but since it does filter so well it’ll start to get restricted much faster than lower numbers. I also saw a restriction rating chart online. 1500 has the highest flow. Even though it filters more it’s causes less restriction because it has a lot more pleats increasing total surface area. If filtration is your highest concern get this filter. If you still want good filtration but don’t want to risk your HVAC get the 1500. The lower restriction may also save you money on ac as well as being a cheaper filter. ... show more

This filter seems to remove more fine particles than any other I've found. Helps with pollen, mold, and dust. Since it is more restrictive than less effective filters I installed two instead of one. The Return Air chase for my second floor is on an outside corner in the hall so I was able to install one on each side of the corner. Keeps filter noise down and lets the filters last longer. ... show more
