I own about a dozen surf rods, primarily Tica, Tsunami, and Okuma. I purchased this as a "beater" surf rod to use as a loaner or for rough conditions where I don't want to use my pricier rods. I paired it with an Okuma Avenger ABF55b with 30# braid and it seems to balance well - any bigger reel would probably feel too big on this (relatively) thin, light, but strong rod. It compares favorably with my most expensive Tica, with the exception of rubber grips vs. cork. First time out it handled a 6.5' shark after a 20 min fight with ease. Great beginner rod (<$120 total with the aforementioned reel) that will stay with you for years. I liked it so much that I bought another for gifting, although I may end up keeping it :-) Comes with a nylon carry bag (nice touch). Amazon packaging on rods is still poor - it's a crap shoot as to whether it will arrive intact. I wish they would start using tubes instead of long cartons. Order your rod well before you need it to give you time to return it if broken. ... show more

Pole broke after 3 months of using it for crab snaring. Using 8oz snares, was never a problem. Until one day the rod gave out, casting from the beach. Never heard a crack sound before, until it gave out without warning. Loved casting it, but no a long lasting pole. There is supposed to be a 1 Year manufactory guarantee, trying to see if this is true. Update: good customer service, sending a replacement pole Pole was great for crab snares, casting was fluid.     • Great rods, TERRIBLE PACKAGING FOR SHIPPING

These are really great surf rods. I have purchased 8 of them from Amazon, the first six were shipped in boxes and bubble wrap. The last two simply came in thin rod bags and were damaged beyond repair. I returned the first one and they shipped the replacement the exact same way and it also was destroyed. Would love order again, but have a feeling they will continue to ship them without boxes….. ... show more

Great rod and able to cast really far. I caught a couple of big red drums with it. Unfortunately, after I caught a big red, the tip of the rod broke because my hook and line got tangled in sea weeds. I managed to pull that weight and the tip broke right when I got close to shore. The customer service is excellent. They sent me a new rod and i’ll start using it very soon. Just getting into surf fishing and did not want to spend major $ only to discover I did not like this style of fishing. Not as refined as other "name brand" rods such as Penn, etc..., but great value and will hold up to at least casual use. Outfit for guides or hard, daily use? Time would only tell, but for a googan like me, they work very well. UPDATE: first trip was excellent performance; second was not as fortunate. The rod broke under moderate load (Big redfish). The tip half broke where it interfaces with the base/reel half… splintering into several fragments. Spectacular fail in a remote area of surf… WILL NOT BUY AGAIN ... show more

ok....so I rarely write these with exceptions for products that deserve them...i've come to realize as an avid Amozonian that we rely on reviews to make informed decisions on what to purchase.... with that said.... This pole is one of my best purchases that i have made ever!!!! Ordered this a few weeks ago...Shipping could have been better...product arrived with 4th guide ring damaged... One quick message to the seller and that was sorted. Had the replacement pole in a little over a week and it was off to the races.... Black Tip shark off Sandy Hook was my first hook-up.....pole handled amazingly well.... since then... Skate...Fluke...Stripers....and Big Blues.... The pole has handled them all and slayed them. Took it up to Connecticut yesterday and got into about 30 pulls of Sea Robiins... back to back to back to back.... I hate Sea Robiins.... Anyway... I would absolutely purchase this pole again...numerous times over.. Distance of throws dramatically improved and it is well built... I will say one thing, rub a little grease on the connections or else you're gonna be stuck with a permanent 12ft rod... that puppy sits snugly in there and is hard to come apart ... show more
