Very nice, all in one fiber optic light meter. I've been in telecom for 3 decades and this meter is well worth the money. The visual fault location red light is clear and bright. The meter reads dbm well and even comes with an lc to sc adapter. Great price for tool in the fiber optic trade.

I received the equipment a few days ago and so, so good. I’m still getting used to it but it’s working as advertised. The test ports, both OPM & VFL were loose upon receipt but they were easily tightened with a pair of needle nose and tissue around the ports to stave off scratches.

    • Inexpensive Diagnostic Tool Helped Us A Lot

We have had multiple direct single-mode fiber optic cables to remote facilities for about 25 years. They have just worked, with no downtime. We have not needed any fiber tools because we haven't had any problems. Recently we tried to upgrade one of them from 1Gb to 10Gb and it will not work. Put the old stuff back and it works. After trying many things, I bought a couple of these testers. It showed much reduced light levels at one end of one of the fibers in the pair. Then, using the visible fault locator, we saw a lot of light spillage into the patch panel at one end of that fiber. It appears we have a bad connection in the patch panel. We have a contractor coming in to look at that. Heck, this problem could have been there all along and we just never knew, because the old media converters were more forgiving. Having never had to address fiber issues, I never knew anything about any tools to work on them. I just assumed the tools would be very expensive. I was pleasantly surprised to be able to buy these testers and some fiber patch cables to use with them for a very reasonable amount. Instead of spending a lot of money hiring a contractor to just test the fibers only to find no problem, I was able to tell administration that we have a problem that needs to be fixed. This Fiber Optic Tester is perfect! It can test traditional SC/ST connectors and more common LC connectors. I didn't realize it can also test RJ-45 connections until I opened the compartment cover lids. The open and close lid on each end of the tester makes it portable to carry without exposing the connectors. LCD display has a backlit light to provide on-screen lighting.
