Can confirm it is an OTDR. I work in a networking research lab and we bought this unit to help isolate a fault along a ~20km fiber line. Was able to do the scan quickly and verified the fault was due to a disconnection at the remote site which saved us a lot of headache. Also useful for verifying the distance of spools and finding high-loss connections. This is basically an android tablet with the optics side added in. Overall quite happy with the bang for the buck and ability to adjust the pulse times frequencies etc. The sensitivity met our needs for the 10-30km runs I tend to work with and the VFL and OPM have both came in handy. Only downside is the software support is a little quirky. You can only run one "app" at a time (so no enabling the light source and having the power meter run side by side unless you use their link app). I couldn't find a PC software viewer for the OTDR files that this saves, and also would be great if the "fiber link power monitor" or other utilities could log to a CSV instead of just display on the screen. Between screenshots and screen recorded I can work around the issue but means a few more hoops than I would prefer. Overall quite happy with the setup, the interface we use for the OTDR is a SC/UPC but they have a lot of adapters for LC, SC/APC, and similar. Note that it is a bi-chromatic source, 1310 and 1550nm as advertised, but I do not believe you can run both at the same time. Kit: MT-5510 OTDR+4K IPC/8MP TVI CVI AHD CVBS We have had this kit for 4 days, I took the meter out on site to test some fiber runs. It works, but can be inconsistant at times. Some times the meter simply decides there isn't an end of the fiber and I get no refraction on the B end or attenuation rating on the run at all. Some times I restart the app or meter and it works again. I have verified all apps are up to date. The meter's shortest selection is 1.64kft for 1330nm(up from auto) I did some testing and identified the shortest length of fiber I can get a return on the B side is 4m, anything shorter does not return any values on the meter. Testing network cables the meter is also fairly accurate in length and capability. This was tested against a FLUKE ethernet cable tester for comparison. Instructions are VERY lacking. Identification of compatible adapters for the OPM and VLS on this meter are absent. For the price it does a decent job, I would like to see the apps improved. 4/5 stars for the lacking instructions and no options for OPM/VLS adapters. Willing to change to 5/5 if the seller/manufacture can identify compatible adapters for the OPM/VLS ports. ... show more

Product seems to be very well made, and robust in its capabilities. It is a very complex tool. Probably a copy of a high quality brand. That being said, the instruction sheet is mostly english, but very few details. Seems like they are explaining how to use a toy, and this is not. If you already know how to us this tool, I'm sure it's great. But I don't know how to use it, and had no luck finding any contact information from the company. So for me it's useless.
