Description

This kit includes the tools necessary to tone and trace wires in common wiring systems. This premium tone generator has Angled Bed of Nails (ABN) clips that securely grip the cable. Tone Generator emits five distinct tones. An RJ11 plug easily connects to telephone or RJ45 data jacks for toning. The toner, also checks continuity and polarity that are indicated by clearly labeled LEDs. The probe traces with the tones signal. The adjustable-volume speaker amplifies the tone. The 3.5 mm jack allows for headphones (sold separately) to be attached in noisy environments. The probe has a tool-less non-metallic durable replaceable tip. • Tracks wires through walls and tiles.
Style: Analog Pattern Name: Tracer
It works quite well. I was able to trace a dead wire to a switch behind drywall and ceramic tiles. It took me much longer to read the instructions than to find the problem. Once you understand how it works in principle it is a wonderful tool. You can trace any dead wire through walls and stone. Saved me from paying an electrician just to come out and point me to a defective ghost switch. ... show more

  • Less expensive version of a toner - does not disappoint!
Style: Analog Pattern Name: Tracer
First off - the description makes note of using this on low voltage. They mention ethernet, thermostat, network, HVAC, etc, etc. I purchased this with the intent on using this on 14 gauge romex and it worked PERFECTLY. (Circuit was off obviously). I needed to chase down some weird line of romex and see where it went so I could remove it form the panel. The toner picked up the wire with ease and I was able to isolate and remove the wire. Pros - I've used the more expensive brand (it's blue in color, every electrician has one) before and it worked well. I can't say this one was any different. And about 1/2 the price. It comes with a case and can even isolate specific pairs in a bundle if you short the correct pairs. Cons - I haven't found any yet. But I will update this if any problems arise. I haven't tried this outside with any buried wires yet. Summary - Great product. Great for tracing low voltage or high voltage capable wires. Good value ... show more

  • Try this before calling an electrician.
Style: Analog Pattern Name: Tracer
Great tool, I am not an electrical expert, but I have done my fair share of electrical work. I got stumped trying to find the source of a light switch and this helped me track it back to an outlet that should not have been on a light circuit. Would not have been able to trace it back any other way. Also found out once it was hooked up that I had a short to ground that I was able to correct. Very easy to use just watch a couple of Youtube videos. Well worth the price versus calling an electrician in to troubleshoot and repair. ... show more

  • BAD BATTERIES!!!
Style: Analog Pattern Name: Tracer
I had all the outlets from one breaker go out...but breaker was fine. Was at the end of my patience and ordered this toner and probe. I watched a view youtube videos on how to calibrate it and within minutes I found my problem. The tool worked perfectly. However, do NOT use the batteries it came with. Upon delivery I put the batteries in, played with it for awhile, to be sure I knew how to use. The next day I get out, ready to trace. The probe turns out, but won't pick up the signal from the toner. I was stumped, it worked 12 hours earlier. I decide to package it up and return, which meant removing the brand news batteries it came with. Opened the battery case and found one battery had leaked all over the inside. I took it out, cleaned it up and put in fresh batteries and worked great. Tool great, batteries very bad!!! ... show more

  • Tracks wires behind walls and floors without opening up the walls or floors
Style: Analog Pattern Name: Tracer
This product worked as advertised! I had to help someone find why they had no power at their outlet. This tool when hooked up to the outlet in question helped me find a hidden outlet (junk hiding it) where the root cause was found. 2.5 hrs later and everything worked as should. This tool is awesome!! Just remember that the power must be off or it will arc / pop. Follow the instructions to the letter and you will be fine ... show more

  • Use It Correctly
Style: Analog Pattern Name: Tracer
I had moved breakers and wires around in my in house breaker panel and long story short, my kitchen AC is on a single breaker and the outlet had no power anymore. Drove myself nuts for days trying to figure out what I did wrong. Finally purchased this toner and watched Youtube videos and still had no luck, very frustrating . Till today, 4-27-25, heres what I did to trace a 20 amp wire from the outlet to the breaker box. Shut off the main breaker ( whole house ) , then disconnected the Black Hot wire, White Neutral, Bare Ground from the outlet plug itself. Then I attached the RED clip from the toner to the BARE copper end of the Black Hot wire. Then I attached the BLACK clip of the toner to the BARE ground wire coming to the outlet. I then turned the toner to the highest tone setting. Then I turned up the volume on the tracer end and I had one black wire that I had cut for some reason, and that wire I held the tracer against. That was my wire omitting the tone. FINALLY found my issue, so this toner / tracer does WORK. It was probably at least 30ft from the outlet to the breaker box. One Youtube video, the guy explained that you have to trace with the LIGHT, NOT THE TONE. Well thats B.S !! ... show more
