I finally got around to using this. I cut through a dry oak log about 4 inches in diameter. It took a couple of minutes with several breaks to catch my breath. The saw will cut however you wrap it, in my case it wasn’t even close to a straight line and looked like a sculpted log when I was done. I think using a folding thin steel saw is less work due to the thin kerf of the blade, but if you want max portability, this chain saw is better. Also, this saw requires the wood to be held very securely while you cut since you obviously need both hands for the saw. Hacking off sections from the end of a big log will work, cutting up smaller sections a couple feet long will be nearly impossible.

I use this to clear smaller winter deadfall trees that have fallen across local Mountain Bike trails. In the few weeks Ive had it I have cleared about 9 trees (4 one day , 5 on another) ranging from 4 to 8 inches in diameter. It cuts in both directions and seems to cut with amazing ease.

Fexplendid Pocket Chainsaw is well named as it is splendid!! One would expect to need a chainsaw or ax to cut 15-inch trees, but this one does it easily. I guess it is the bi-directional teeth that make it so easy to cut the trees. The saw just seems to glide through it as long as you keep the pressure on the 36-inch saw. It has 48 bi-directional teeth, so it is easy to understand the productivity of the saw. The surprising thing is the weight of the saw. It weighs a mere nine ounces!! It folds up into the little drawstring bag that it comes in, making it easy to store away or carry wherever you wish. Additionally, you don't have to sharpen it for five years!! I imagine if you don't use it TOO much, you could go even longer. I'm so glad I got this pocket chainsaw. I can foresee many years of using it when I don't want to get out the chainsaw or ax. I most highly recommend it!!

I've never had to cut a tree when I've been camping (and I don't plan to) but I have had to crawl over trees that have fallen across the walking trail. For that reason alone, I've stowed this little chain saw in my backpack. During a heavy snow and ice storm this past winter, I had lot's of trees in and near my backyard uprooted and needing to be cut up. I'm still working on that project (with a gas powered chainsaw) but it gave me a chance to try out this manually operated saw. Although I only made one cut using this saw, and it was pretty strenuous work, but it cut a fairly small tree in half. This saw is sharp and it cuts with each pull. Great emergency tool.

I like these saws for downed wood, can be some of the fastest ways to cut -- however if they are too short you end up bent over -- this one was a bit longer than the last one I had (which broke) so it's a bit nicer. No issues with breaking/dulling yet.

I've used this saw to cut branches between 3/4 inches and 1.5 inches and it works great. The picture is from cutting down some sprawling bushes where it would have been hard to use a powered saw. The chain is sharp so there's not much effort needed for cutting. And it feels a lot safer to use in tight corners.
