  • ... playing guitar for over 15 years now and I like to read a lot on amps and guitar subjects ...
Style: 65 Deluxe Reverb Configuration: Amp Only
I have been playing guitar for over 15 years now and I like to read a lot on amps and guitar subjects and I am very well technically oriented in these subjects. I purchased this amp on Amazon, from a seller named ''ElectricGuitar'', which is an excellent seller by the way, I highly recommend it. So I purchased this amp in ''Used - Like New'' / ''Non factory sealed'' condition, for an incredible price of $899.95, so $200 less than the brand new price. I have to tell you, mine came brand new, not a scratch or dent, also came in a Fender box perfectly packed, with the 2 button foot switch, the original user manual, the Jensen speaker, Fender 5 year warranty and Groove Tubes stickers or logos and a Fender bumper sticker. I received the amp on Friday Sept, the 4th, 2015. Of course I have not left the darn thing alone ever since I got it. So my first impressions of the amp until today Sept 08, have been great. I really like the sound and tone that I am getting from the amp stock, as it is. I have tried it at different volume levels from bedroom levels, which sounds so good and sparkling and also at meaner louder cranked up volumes and also sounds great and warm, as you get those crunchy tube saturated compressed sounds. The Jensen C12K stock speaker is not yet broken in and still it is not ''ice peaky'' or ''shrill'' on the treble or high frequency tones at all. Honestly I don't how some people say this about this speaker and about the amp as a whole, maybe their amps did not came up set properly from factory. Mine is excellent, I don't even need or bother to take the amp to my expert guitar&amp tech for re bias, because it sounds so good as it is, so it would be pointless. My DRRI came stock with Groove Tubes, but they are not the ones that have the ''ElectroHarmonix'' or ''Sovtek'' writtings or other brand on the tube along with the GrooveTubes writings. This one only say GrooveTubes. A lot of people complained that the stock GrooveTubes are junk and sound bad, well I don't know about that but these ones sound super nice and warm! I plug in the cd player to the amp's input, using a RCA (Female) to 1/4 TRS (Male), to leave it playing music at louder volumes for around 30 minutes to and hour a day. Some times that I have been home alone I cranked it up with the Cd player plug in to it and you can see when it's darker, that the tubes are ''cooking'' like they should. I think the CD player thing is a good way of testing the tubes and of helping the speaker break in period. The CD player is stronger signal than the guitar, so if play a cd with wav files, not mp3's, in it, it is a stronger signal and has plenty of gain, so you can see the speaker and the tubes working hard as I pound it with LOUD music. It sounds extremely loud even at 2.5 on the DRRI volume knob, so I can only do this for no longer than an hour, since even if it is only me at home, I go crazy with the extreme loudness, but it's been a good bench test for the tubes and helps loosen up the speaker. I will update after a month from now. So far I am extremely pleased with the sound of the amp. Like I said before I would never call the sound of this amp stock, as it is right out of the box, ''harsh'' ''shrill'' ''too bright'' ''ear piercing'' or ''ice peaky'', like other people have said. Of course if you use your Treble knob, you can make it bright sounding, but that happens with any other amp and speaker type. About the bass response, I think it is a well defined low end and low mid response, with it never being boomey or too much bass. The mid frequencies definition is perfect as it is in my opinion, definitely no need for that ''lost mid knob control'', it is set perfectly as it is hard wired. I love this amp, I like it more and more every time I play it. Also so far it has taken the few pedals that I have, in an excellent way, especially on the Vibrato channel. I will update in one month. ... show more

  • Didn't work out of the box
Style: 65 Deluxe Reverb Configuration: Amp Only
The amp doesn't work straight out of the box. It looks like two of the preamp tubes are bad/cracked.

  • Terrific seller, and amazing sound
Style: 65 Deluxe Reverb Configuration: Amp Only
This is the amp I should have been playing all the way along. It just sounds so amazing, at any volume. At home I keep it around 3 or so, and it's still fairly loud, but I can roll the guitar volume down and it just has this beautiful tone. Crank it up, and it really breaks up nicely. I haven't turned my Marshall on since I received this one, and I may never turn it back on. Also: the seller was amazing to deal with. I had an issue with the first one I bought, it was getting some static. No questions asked, they sent me a label took it back and sent me a brand new one. ... show more

  • A fine low power amp for blues and jazz
Style: 65 Deluxe Reverb Configuration: Amp Only
I purchased this 'used, in new condition' amp with some hesitation, since a few reviewers have expressed concerns regarding this model's performance. Having owned a large variety of great amps of all types in 50 years of playing, including numerous vintage Fenders, I had fairly specific performance expectations in mind. After dialing the amp in, I found it to be as expected-capable of clear clean tones, as well as being easily overdriven when desired. I'm certain I'll end up replacing the stock speaker with a Weber, re-tubing, etc., but that is just part of the disease I share with most guitarists, not a reflection on the amp. Speaking only for this example and based on my personal tastes, I am quite pleased with this purchase. If my amp is representative of most other DRR's, and it's features, power rating and tonal qualities meet your performance criteria, you may well be too. ... show more

  • Amazing tone and value
Style: 65 Deluxe Reverb Configuration: Amp Only
I purchased the 68 custom deluxe over the 65 and couldn’t be happier. If you are looking for a great sounding and versatile tube amp look no further. I’ve had my fair share of boutique amps and you just can’t go wrong with this..

  • The Real Deal!!!
I've been looking for THE SOUND for many years. I've tried other amps in the past, and none really hit the spot for me. Finally, after untold years on the quest for tone, I bit the bullet and bought a Fender '65 Reissue Deluxe Reverb Amp. While I don't own or play a Fender Strat or Tele, the Gretsch ProJet I have (modded with TV Jones Classic pick ups) sounds like everything I could hope for. My taste in music runs through reggae, rock, blues, jazz, and alt-country. This amp and guitar gives me access to tones found in all these genres. I feel like I've arrived. ... show more

  • The Tone is Real
Style: 65 Deluxe Reverb Configuration: Amp Only
What can I say about this legendary amp that hasn't been said already? Plays like a dream and really makes your guitar sing. Both my strat and Les Paul sound great through it. Takes pedals like a dream. Would be nice to have an fx loop, but there is a beauty to the simplicity of this tube-loaded beast. ... show more

  • First really good amp I've owned
Style: 65 Deluxe Reverb Configuration: Amp Only
I'd never really known what "my sound" was or what I really wanted but I finally realized what I needed was simple. No programming, no effects loop, not too big or heavy, just something that a) sounds better the louder you play it (ie all tube; Fletcher Munson baby) and b) is stomp pedal friendly. And this is it (at least at a price I can afford). Once you get to about 4 on the volume, it just comes alive and it's difficult to sound bad through this; it won't make you play any better but your mistakes will sound fantastic. Takes pedals very well, especially mid-heavy, tube screamer type overdrives. Can almost get a cranked Marshall sound with the right pedal (Barber Direct Drive in my case). Loud enough for small gigs, can be mic'd for anything bigger and light enough to avoid back strain. The "vibrato" (really tremolo but whatever) is neat but of limited use for me anyway; if you need that sound it's a good one. Fantastic reverb of course and great clean. Just a great, great base sound to start from. It's not perfect of course; it would be nice to be able to get an all tube amp at this price point with channel switching (Hot Rods don't count since they aren't really an all tube amp and their drive channel is terrible anyway). The components are supposedly low quality; I haven't experienced this yet but I have no reason to doubt that the tubes are cheap; it sounds good enough for now and I'll deal with that when the tubes need replacement. Supposedly a crap speaker; again, good enough for now. It's easy to overdo the treble on the vibrato channel and have a sound that is like a dental drill to the temple. This is due to a bright cap on the volume control for this channel; there is a relatively easy mod for this (google it) or you can, you know, use the eq controls that come with the amp. But overall, a pretty great and versatile amp. Probably too "loose" for metal, but I am able to cover a wide variety of sounds with it and even get a passable Smashing Pumpkins sound with a Big Muff in front. ... show more
