  • I have VERY mixed feelings about this unit!
Color: White Size: 20 Sheet Pattern Name: Paper Shredder
I bought this unit to replace my old, recently-croaked Fellowes shredder. The old one only cost $79 (admittedly, 20+ yrs, ago); and was rated at 12 pages max feed thickness. This new one is rated at 20 pages; and cost me $338, ttl; S&H/tax included. Both units are very-near-identical in size and weight. The old shredder was literally a tank!! I was always amazed at just what I could stuff down it; and how it would so delightfully gobble it up! I LOVED watching it do so!! It was often RATHER entertaining! :-) :-) Compared to my old unit, this one is - QUITE literally! - a virtual pansy! :-( Undeniably, I am VERY tough on office shredders. I like to shred near anything I can fit into one. Cardboard boxes; the dense-but-thin cardboard like a 12-pak of 12 oz. soda cans comes in; thin/thick plastic (old CD's); etc. etc., ad infinitum. And my old Fellowes shredder was very up to the task; and… very UNLIKE this new unit. My complaints: First off, the new one, like sooo many things, nowadays, is WAAAAAAAAAY OVER-software/hardware engineered!!!!! It has so many 'safety features' that, for me, it makes it a general pain-in-the-bohonkulator to use (other than for simple, half-dozen sheet or less shreddings). The input photo/LED sensor is located way to deep into the throat of the unit. Easily half-again the distance of my old unit; which I had already thought way too deep. This often makes it an (admittedly slight) pain to get the thing going. There’s also some sort of mechanical thickness limiter that often gets toggled (even with material within spec); again, resulting in a slight annoyance, to get the thing crunching. And the throat of the shredder is way to narrow. Much more so than with my older Fellowes shredder. With anything of a challenging nature (for this unit, anyway), the too-thin top plastic of the top panel will deform/buckle; multiple places. Though, thankfully, recovering to shape/form, and not cracking/breaking (thus far). I’ve had to become much more discerning as to what I try to feed it. Anything thick and plastic-coated, often gets caught up/stuck in the shredder. Either in the too narrow throat, or in the crosscut gears, themselves. Often making it very difficult to extract said material. Sometimes, VERY difficult; requiring four or five minutes of struggle to get out. I shudder to think what trying to shred a large, Tyvek shipping envelope could result in! DON’T put anything plastic in this shredder!! Its simply not worth it. Throw it into a regular trash can. 😊 Even just shredding paper (less than the 20 spec’d pages), I often get alarm/warning LED colors off the unit. If you feed a sheaf of paper/(regular) envelopes corner first… and an area folds over… look out! You’ll likely get a failure/stoppage/stuck shredder. Its happened to me many, many times, thus far. Again, I’m having to become more discerning; not only as regards WHAT I feed the shredder… but HOW its fed into it. This shredder also (again, with ‘challenging’ input) will often fail out/freeze. About half the time, it will power Off completely; requiring you spin the unit about, access the power switch, and toggle the switch (sometimes having to patiently work it On/Off multiple times). Hey, Fellowes Design Engineers!! Pay attention, HERE!! Just like my old Fellowes shredder, this unit will NOT permit using a regular 13 G. plastic garbage bag on/within the shreddings hopper. Actually, I could/did use such on the old unit; but you had to very difficultly stretch the bag into place, fitting over two ‘projections’ NOT meant for the purpose (and usually requiring four or five frustrating attempts to get it INTO place… without one corner or another repeatedly slipping off). Once in place, you then had to be carefully pulling the basket in & out; or you’d rip the bag. And, just like my old unit, the sensor for filling height within the shreddings basket is positioned too low; resulting in you having to pull the basket out, tamp down the contents, and slide the basket back in… all too often. I tried (hopefully) putting a 13 G. bag into this new unit, but found it even more difficult than with my old unit! I DID eventually get a bag into place… but then found that EVERY single movement of the basket in/out ripped the bag (each time, more and worse). Now, really… just HOW difficult would it be to engineer the unit’s already almost exactly 13 G. shreddings basket… to easily accept regular 13 G. g-bags??!! Really??!! Well… enough with my negative comments (although… if I stare at the unit, six feet away from me, a little longer… grumble, grumble… I’m sure a couple more complaints will likely come to mind). On the PLUS side... the new unit is VERY quiet. Much more so than my old Fellowes shredder. It is also very appealing in overall appearance. VERY attractive, indeed! And it crosscuts to a VERY fine degree; much more so than the already-quite-acceptable degree to which my old Fellowes unit shredded (maybe 10x smaller?). Unlike in the movies, I quite believe, even with an advanced super computer, appropriate software program, and 20 people to assist... that you could NOT reconstruct any document shredded by this unit. Particularly, if the shredding’s were being fetched from a basket containing more than just one or two pages; say, a third full, or more. The shreddings are simply too small and numerous; virtually, MUCH smaller than confetti. All that having been said... for over 4x the price!!... and near twice the max paper feed thickness spec, compared to my old unit – from this very SAME mfgr’r... I am very, VERY disappointed in this shredder!! And I’ve NOT fed it anything that my old Fellowes shredder wouldn't have accepted/shredded. I suppose, if you were just using it to shred paper... never more than the spec'd 20 pages... and you ALWAYS fed the paper(s) in vertically aligned (NEVER, corners first)... in a simple, clean, office environment... this unit might be quite acceptable. Maybe, even… performing in an exemplary fashion. But... for my more challenging usage scenario(s)... and expectations... and particularly in respect to the unit's, in my opinion, QUITE excessive price/performance ratio... I find myself completely UNABLE to recommend purchasing this shredder. ... show more

  • Cat doesn't run when shredding
Color: Black Size: 20 Sheet Pattern Name: Paper Shredder
Love the tiny cross cut pieces that personal info is reduced to! We can reduce the material in the mail and shred it without filling it up quickly. It is well worth the money and then some.

  • Well.. it kinda works
Color: Black Size: 20 Sheet Pattern Name: Paper Shredder
I like some of my previous fellows shredders better.. they had some real muscle and by comparison, I think this thing is a wimp

  • Quiet
Color: White Size: 16 Sheet Pattern Name: Paper Shredder
Hope it lasts. Very quiet in use, hands-off operation. Unit feels solidly built, has smooth lines & is intuitive to use. Nice looking. Big shred basket that is easy to remove, empty & re-insert. Would've like it to be a bit taller like my last shredder as have to bend a bit inserting papers.

  • It's a beast, but be prepared to pay for it. I love it regardless.
Color: White Size: 20 Sheet Pattern Name: Paper Shredder
We purchased the 20-sheet version since it wasn't that much more expensive than the smaller capacities and it gave a better feature set. It is an absolute beast. It went through a couple years worth of shredding in short time, and I never had to worry about staples or paper clips. A tip: I didn't find using a bag inside the machine to be useful. Paper shreddings still fell into the hopper outside the bag. Just fill the hopper then dump the hopper into a bag. Less mess and easier. What I like: +Capacity!! It chews up just about any amount you throw at it. +Doesn't even blink when you throw paper clips or staples in - eats them the same as anything. +Continuous operation. I never had it overheat. Used it constantly for 30 minutes, which is its rated use. +Good looking design. This is purely subjective but it is a nice looking fixture. +Hopper size. I went through 3 hopper fills with my initial purge of to-shred papers. I'd hate to think of how many I'd have gone through with a smaller bin. +Solid feature set with auto-clearing, etc. +LED indication of shredding performance - really dial in how much paper you can feed through at once. +Capacitive touch sensor across both sides of the paper feed which will stop the machine if an errant finger gets too close to the opening. This is a phenomenal feature for safety. +Super easy to set up and get going What I'm indifferent on: =The noise levels are acceptable. The first time I heard it I was amazed how quiet it was, but then I guess I got used to it and it seems to make some noise. Very manageable, but it's still there which I suppose is unavoidable. =The price is what I would expect. I didn't find it especially good value nor did I find it a rip-off. It is significantly more expensive than lesser machines, but "lesser" is definitely the defining characteristic to note. If you've got the money, treat yourself to a very nice piece of kit. I used card points to buy it, which somehow made it feel less bad to spend this much money on what is essentially a luxury item for my home office. What I dislike: -Not much to dislike here. Still wish it could handle more paper at once and I didn't have to orient sheets, but those are a pretty nit-picky complaints that don't really apply at this price point. Conclusion: It's absolutely overkill for our household and work-at-home needs but it is such a wonderful luxury to have a machine that works so well. I've always had cheap old generic shredders. This is such a joy to use and I'm glad I was able to get it. ... show more

  • Good product
Color: Black Size: 20 Sheet Pattern Name: Paper Shredder
I like the brand and just what I wanted. However it is very top heavy and need to use caution when Tippi g on 2 wheels to remove anything underneath.. like the fact you can shred multiple pages at a time and can operate for 30 minutes at a time. Cool down period between sessions is short, so you can shred stuff quickly. ... show more
