Happy that I got this shredder and have found it to be dependable, convenient, and properly sized. Especially impressed with the overall performance when it comes to feeding multiple pages or thicker items like cardstock, pamphlets, and poster types. There have been times when I sort of just shove a stack of papers down in there and can hear it slow down in order to shred, but it's never gotten stuck or jammed and I was concerned about having a shredder that could take more than just a couple pages at a time. My wife and I needed to shred our personal confidential documents and other confidential documents we generate occasionally through our work. We had a paper shopping bag full of documents that had built up. This little shredder ate up all those documents in about 15 minutes and easily shredded 5-7 pages at a time. I used the convenient "auto" setting which starts the shredder running when pages are inserted. No jams or overheating so far. The only downside to this shredder is the small basket. It was full after the shredding job mentioned above. If I was regularly shredding hundreds of pages at a time, I would pick a shredder with a larger basket so I didn't have to empty it as often, but since we only need to shred 10 pages or so at a time, this is perfect for us. (The basket also has a small window which makes it very easy to see when its filling up). The small basket also means the shredder is top-heavy and a bit precarious. It will stand up on its own fine, but if we had kids or a large dog I would worry they might knock it over. Bottom line: If you're willing to spend a little extra time feeding documents to save a little green this is probably the perfect shredder for you. Maintenance: the manual says you can use plain old vegetable oil to lubricate the shredder each month, so no need to buy special shredder oil. I haven't tried this yet. Tip for shredder novices: The microcut leaves a lot of dust in the basket (I did not notice dust outside of the shredder). I try to wait for the dust settle in the basket and then wear a mask when I empty the basket to avoid inhaling any paper dust. Works awesome! Cuts paper into micro size bits. I could shred for hours before I have to change the bin. Down side: it won't shred think credit cards like Amazon credit cards but it will do most other cards.

Overall extremely satisfied with this shredder. It says 8-sheet but I found its most efficient putting 3-4 sheets in at a time because for 5+ sheets it shreds slowly. Since the blades continuously rotate once you've put in paper, you can keep inserting 3-4 sheet packets back-to-back. It takes a LONG while before the shredder overheats so you can get a lot of bulk shredding done in one sitting (I had years of papers to shred, so this feature was a real time-saver). It really does take around 30-40 minutes before its cooled down and you can continue shredding. When it does overheat, whatever paper was going through will just stop where it is in the feeder until the machine cools and it will allow you to continue shredding. Because of the safety features you have to use the bucket they provide and it fills decently slowly, so you're not constantly emptying the bucket. You cant let the bucket fill too much unless the blades just keep rotating already cut pieces of paper around in circles. The little window on the front of the bucket really helps and makes that process easier. The shredder is quite loud. If you want to talk to someone while shredding you'll have to speak louder than normal conversational tones. And the shredder can be heard from a couple rooms away. The head of the shredder is quite heavy so be prepared for the weight when you lift it to empty the bucket. The blades are exposed on the bottom once you've lifted it off so you have to be careful not to touch them on accident. I’ve owned a larger slice shredder for many years and decided I needed to have more security. I really like this new one. It’s a little loud but does a great job with ultra fine shredding. I recommend this.

I bought this shredder 3 years ago to the day. It worked great. Every year when cleaning out my file cabinet I did probably abuse it by overheating it. I would advise not to shred too many sheets at once too. This year while shredding it went cuckoo!! It quite working on me and made a terrible clanging banging noise. I called Aurora and when they heard it they said the gears are stripped. So, I need a new shredder. I will say its probably my fault for most likely over using it once a year. Im going to buy another one and see how it goes. I'll be more careful this time. I did occasionally shred a piece of foil to keep the blades sharp. It wasnt super easy to empty ... that was one thing I didnt care for! ... show more
