I previously owned a FELLOWES paper shredder, cross-cut style and that attached over its own bin / basket; a medium duty, medium PRICE item, that overheated (as expected to do) after operating for 15 solid minutes of use. It only took 2 sheets of paper, at a time, and after 10 years (light to medium use, for junk MAIL) the motor still ran, but it ceased to accept paper. | So, now I'm here having just purchased a NEW model! This model caught my attention, after reading REVIEWS that it "lasted 10+ years" and "shredded a whole filing drawer, without stopping". | I had a whole grocery BAG of paperwork to shred, which I normally save up and then do all at once. It sounded like this machine was up for the challenge! | After 1 1/2 HOURS of continuous shredding, the machine finally went into "overheat" mode and cut off the motor; 1 hour later, it had COOLED itself off and was ready to go again. | I love how the BIN slides in and out, effortlessly, which I then dump into a 30 gallon sized bag; it's half full, after 5 full bins! The shredding blades and motor is not operable, as a built in safety measure, when the bin is removed. | The WHEELS slide smoothly and even have a lock-in-position on them! | The shred SIZE is literally smaller than a pea; the next smallest size is used by the government, for the shredding of their sensitive documents! | If a piece of paper has even a slightly CRUMPLED edge or if the paper bunches up, upon entering the feeding slot, the shred size is then more like that of a cross-cut. It doesn't happen often, nor worries me, but it's just a good TIP! | This machine is very QUIET and could be used in the next room over, from a sleeping person. | I have fed no more than 3 sheets of PAPER, at a time, to prevent the motor from being overworked and thus, lasting for the long term. It also depends on the thickness, weight, etc. *************UPDATE*************** This shredder is one heck of a powerful unit; approx 2" of paperwork will shred and fill the bin, in about 5 minutes total! The machine overheated 1x, after I filled the bin 3+ times consecutively. The cool off time was amazing @ around 30 minutes!

I just destroyed this overpriced shredder by attempting to shred a credit card in it . The card is firmly embedded in the gears and cannot be retrieved. Yes, I've had the shredder since March 1918, during that time, shredded three baskets worth of paper -- lubricating the gears when I emptied the baskets. This is the first time that I attempted to shred a credit card in the machine (in July 2019), by inserting it where the picture of a credit card is shown, and the machine is kaput. The single card is fully entangled in the gears. The shredder can neither be reversed or go forward. Other brands may be as lame (I don't know); but, on principle, this is my last Fellowes. The thing had no shot at handling a credit card though it claims it can. My old Amazon credit card from Chase has ended its short (from a use perspective) life and I'm about as ticked off as I've ever been. The product is junk. My shredding came to over $45 per 5 gallons of shredded paper plus one credit card. On the plus side, all the card minus what is embedded in the gears was destroyed. How wonderful. Silly me. I thought that they wouldn't advertise the ability to shred a credit card when they HAD to know that it cannot do it. (Perhaps they confused business cards with credit cards.)

So far so good. It is quiet, and seems powerful. Shreds the paper to tiny pieces. I lined the basket with a clear transparent 10 gallon trash bag (available from Costco) so when emptying these tiny pieces don't fly all over the place. The basket I did not buy the Fellows canola oil bottle for $9. Instead, to oil the cutters I use a small syringe and bought a small bottle of plain canola oil at the supermarket for $2, and now I can also fry some eggs for much lower costs :-).

Ordered this shredder and received it today. Opened box and the wheels were broken. Had a note attached to it that said not working. Also the shredder looked like it had been used and paper shred was inside the container. I was totally shocked to say the least and returned it the same day.

I purchased it in July, but just opened it last week. This paper shredder is not new, it’s been used and died not work. It looks like something is stuck where the blades are. I like this machine. My first shredder lasted probably 15 years, when it died I bought an Amazons Basics, don't waste your time, after the 2nd one died (after only a month) I bought this Fellowes. Its quiet, that Amazon sounded like an amazon, this is way quiet. The downside for me and probably others with a desk is that this thing is too high to put paper straight into it, you have to curl the paper to get it into the opening. I have the wastebasket from the Amazon, it measures 12 1/2" high, this Fellowes is 16", I will get back an inch or so if I can remove the casters (haven't looked, an inch would not help much). That's why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5. Check this out, the first Amazon dies after about 8 mos of use, I ask about warranty and they say,keep the machine and we will send a new one-cool- one month later the replacement dies,now Amazon wants the non working piece of crap returned, so I ordered the this Fellowes and it had an outer box that I used (with cushions I might add:) and used that box with Amazons prepaid UPS label to send it back,then Amazon notifys me that the old one was received and that they are sending another replacement, I said no,lets do a refund on the original purchase, no problem, all is well :)

The media could not be loaded. Very high quality shredder. I have owned 3 shredders in my life , this is my 4th one. The big difference between this one and the others I have owned in the past is; the sharpness of the blades, the way it easily grabs the paper, and my favorite part is how quiet it is! I also love the pull out tray and wheels.
