  • War... War Never Changes...
Platform: PlayStation 4 Edition: Pip-Boy
This is my first review in a long time. Hopefully this helps any and all wishing to purchase this version of the game or the game in general. I have always been a Fallout fan starting with Fallout 3 back in the day with my X-box 360. Then I obviously played Fallout New Vegas and now Fallout 4. I have to say, the jump to the next gen consoles went very well for this specific game. It isn't as glitchy as I remember the older games to be. The game looks very good given the type of game it is. For the type of game it is I never really held the game designers too much of a high standard due to the type of game and world they are trying to convey. For example, if you are buying this game expecting graphics like you would see in lets say, Grand Theft Auto. You aren't going to get that due to the world this is trying to depict. You start off as the wanderer of the wasteland, much like every other fallout game you are by yourself sifting through a vast land of fallout nuclear waste. I for one enjoyed the main story line as it sucked me in and it kept me with it until the very end. It took me a while to get around to playing Fallout as I was finishing some other video games as well. However, when I finally got on board and started playing, much like other Fallout games I was unable to put it down for longer then a day as I really wanted to see what happened next. The main story is awesome; it really pulls you in and keeps you busy until you have completed it. Once this is complete there are still numerous side quests that you can complete as well as going back to older settlements that you've already cleared to help them out when under attack. I have to admit sometimes that gets a little annoying but fun nevertheless. This version of the game comes with a cool pip-boy as well as a steelebook of the game. Some cool notes as well which I enjoy. Fallout and Assassins Creed are really the only games I pay the extra money for when it comes to collector’s editions because you seem to get the best bang for your buck with these versions. I don't want to go into to much just in case you haven’t actually played the game yet. I DID NOT download or play any of the DLC so this review is based off of the regular stand alone game. However, if you are in the market to pick up the game and don't want to purchase the Pip-Boy edition the G.O.T.Y version is the way to go. You get everything the regular game has to offer alone with all of the additional DLC. Overall I give them game a 7.5 out of 10. The game itself is awesome; the graphics are good but still look a little like New Vegas and Fallout 3 to me. The music is great and commentary is awesome. The main story is fun to play along too, the side quests are fun as well but they do tend to get a little annoying as well. Hope you enjoyed the review and it helped you out! Now, get back out there and explore the wasteland!!! ... show more

  • Post-Nuclear Heaven - but check your specs
Platform: PC Edition: Standard
The story, gameplay, plot, and characters are all amazing. This game is a far improvement over Fallout 3 and it does indeed have a familiar, yet very different feel that works incredibly well. When you also combine the vast depth of crafting, trading, and settlement system this game is on a completely different level. Even the combat feels far more fun and I have yet to put a reason as to why - it just is. I'll let you read the dozens of positive reviews but if you're looking to get lost in a post nuclear world and learn to survive and thrive than this is the game for you. However, there are things to consider before getting this game: 1. Downloading: No matter how you get it for the PC you have to download parts of the game and depending on your connection, it could take a while. I have a fantastic provider so total installation time took around 40 minutes. This is an anti-pirating movement and is the way of the future for all games out there so it's just something we're all going to have to deal with as the folks who pirate software have forced the industry into this. 2. Steam: You need steam to play and yet again this is another anti-pirating movement. See above. 3. Know the minimum PC requirements: This game has minimum requirements set for a reason. If you don't meet the requirements then you can expect issues - it's as simple as that. On my 4 year old gaming PC (with only 6GB RAM and 1GB graphics card) it runs fine on high settings with some frame issues during certain scenes, but that's to be expected on a 4 year old PC. My friends’ 4 year old gaming PC does not meet the CPU or graphics card requirements and the game does not even load. 4. Crashes: The game may crash. I have not had any issues with this but others have (such as my friend). Make sure to appropriately update all your drivers, your operating system, and any other necessary system updates. Crashing sucks so contact both your hardware manufacturer and game tech support for further assistance and be VERY specific with your issues and system build. Be patient - the game is brand new and there's bound to be issues. 5. Bugs: The game will have bugs that overtime will likely be addressed. The game is both massive in scale and complicated. By default that's what sandbox games are. It's impossible to playtest every potential factor and possibility i've yet to encounter a main quest line becoming broken. 6. Poor Graphics: While subjective, I would say the the visuals are very fitting for the development/release date. No it's not cutting edge visuals and rendering but it is a sandbox game and therefor has certain restrictions that come with it. Graphics are important but gameplay is a priority and while we would all love for this look cutting edge next gen. it looks very good on the higher end settings and is playable by a wide audience, rather than power gaming PC's. I’m sure someone will make a extreme HD texture pack for those who want to lick their screens. 7. It's Boring: I would suggest at least 24 hours of game play are necessary to really get aquainted with how the game plays and explore some of the incredible locations within. Short of exploring the edges of the city, doing some gun/armor smithing, and tinkering with settlements will not give the full scope of what this game is all about. The difficulty setting can be adjusted at any time and I personally avoid the VATS system and free range it. Overall it's fantastic, full of character and I would agree with the predictions that this game is going to clean house as Game of the Year. ... show more
