  • BIG COMPANIES ARENT ALWAYS BETTER - AND DEFINITELY NOT HONEST
Style: Face Wash w/Benzoyl Peroxide
I've had really great results using an indie brand 10% benzoyl peroxide acne wash for over a year, but I found it to be a little drying. So after searching through Amazon, I came across this Differin wash and noticed their claim on the page: >>> "Contains 5% Benzoyl Peroxide-As Effective As 10% Benzoyl Peroxide Cleansers But With Less Irritation And Redness" <<< Give or take a few pennies the price was about the same, and I wanted to reduce the dryness on my face since I was starting interviews for a new job. I thought to myself: hey, a big pharmaceutical brand is going to deliver better results than some indie brand, right? They wouldn't make this kind of claim unless it was backed by millions of dollars of clinical research? I can TRUST a big brand name, right? Wrong. Biggest mistake I've ever made. At first, I used this wash for a couple days and everything was fine. But after the third or fourth day, my face and neck were covered in deep chemical burns that kept me out of work for nearly a week, because my skin itched so badly, and I was too ashamed to walk into the office looking like a beet. I know for a fact I'm not allergic to benzoyl peroxide, and I didn't combine it with any other acne medications. I tried it for another 1-2 days to see if my skin would adjust, and finally had to stop using it completely as it was just too painful. After about a week or so my face finally stopped looking like a fire hydrant, but the chemical burns still remained. I had to go see my dermatologist to get some meds for the skin damage, and she said she had never seen a reaction like that from an over-the-counter acne medication in her 20 year career. To add insult to injury, my acne actually got worse. I never had deep cystic acne in my life until I used this nightmare product. I read that that Differin offers a "30 day money back guarantee if the product does not work". But when I emailed the company to see how to get my refund, I got some insulting boiler plate response that didn't even make sense: >>> While we do not offer a guarantee on this product as results may vary, we can say that in clinical studies, Differin provided nearly a 60% average reduction in acne lesions after 12 weeks which continues to improve with further use. It is also the first multi‐benefit dermatologist recommended retinoid available without a prescription and the newest advancement and ingredient in the OTC acne category in over 30 years! Let us know what you experience with the product as we would love to hear your results! <<< That made me really mad. I spent a couple hours searching online to get my refund, and read on the Galderma website that Differin engages in animal testing! I am vegan so this was wildly disturbing: >>> All pharmaceutical products are required by law and regulations to be tested on animals before they can be licensed for use by humans. We accept our responsibility for Innovation & Continuous Learning conducting animal research in a humane and ethical manner. The use of animals in testing is thoroughly evaluated to ensure that its impact is minimized, and consideration is given to the use of non-animal models and alternative technologies whenever possible, in compliance with industry/government regulations. <<< So Differin promised a more gentle and effective product, along with a money back guarantee if it didn't work. I ended up destroying my face, no refund, out a couple hundred bucks for the dermatologist visit (my insurance stinks), and "discovering" Differin needlessly abuses small animals. Yet another untrustworthy brand... I'm switching back to my old indie brand. I'll never touch another Differin product with a ten foot pole. ... show more

  • Helped my adult acne
Style: Face Wash w/Benzoyl Peroxide
I don’t know if I’ve ever written a review before, but I wanted to give one in case someone finds it helpful. So I ordered this cleanser while on a desperate skincare binge, thought I’d deleted it from my cart but then it came in the mail. I let it sit in my closet for awhile because I was afraid it might be too harsh. Started using it a couple of weeks ago for some stubborn breakouts that weren’t responding to other gentler, more natural products I was using. My skin isn’t *flawless* but man is it soo much better and less inflamed. Can be especially drying of you get it near your eyes. Dunno if my nighttime method will work for you, but here it is: remove make up using jojoba oil, straight from palm to face; rinse once with gentle cleanser; massage differin into skin 20-30 seconds and rinse thoroughly; with hazel toner with a cotton ball; hyauloric cream. For context, I’m in my 30s with acne and sensitive skin. I have to be careful about the products I use because a variety of ingredients will cause breakouts (sidenote, check make up ingredients for talc and throw that crap away...gave me cystic acne in my 20s). My skin was much more prone to drying when I was younger but this hasn’t particularly bothered me yet. It’s still crazy to me that we have images of space but resolving acne is pleasewhyhow??, totally feel your pain. Maybe this will help someone a little. ... show more

  • Disappointing! Oily skin sufferers - stay away!
Style: Moisturizer with SPF
I’m quite disappointed in this product. I usually use CeraVe AM, but decided to give Differin a try, as the “oil control” claim lured me in. I find that this product actually makes my oily skin EXTRA oily. After 2 hours of wear I need to use a blotting sheet. I also find that it is slightly irritating and causes redness in the morning. I don’t know if this is a knock off version of the product, or if it is actually this terrible. Oily skin people - stay away! ... show more

  • Lifesaver!
Style: Face Wash w/Benzoyl Peroxide
I've been using this product almost every night for the last month. My skin has drastically changed, and I've experienced a significant (around 90%) reduction in acne. Since starting to use it, I have almost no more clogged pores, and no longer get hormonal/cystic acne. It's been a lifesaver -- I haven't worn foundation for the last week! Not super helpful with blackheads, but overall I'd recommend to anyone with moderate acne. I've already recommended it to my friends and a girlfriend of mine works in a dermatologists office and said they too tell people to use differin. I am definitely a loyal customer. Thank you Differin for helping me get my skin under control!!! ... show more

  • NOT FOR OILY SKIN
Style: Moisturizer with SPF
HORRIBLE for OILY skin! I live in Houston, Tx and it’s hot and humid here. I have moderately oily skin- T-zone oil. I used this sunscreen and right after I put it on my skin felt more oily. An hour after putting it on my skin was a greasy mess and my foundation looked HORRIBLE. I don’t even think I could wear this in the winter. If I went to a cold climate that wasn’t humid I may be able to wear this in the dead on winter. If you have DRY SKIN I think you may really like this. How the heck can an acne product company make an “oil control” sunscreen like this? This is literally one of the most greasy sunscreens ai have ever used. I would be better off using banana boat on my face. I’m going back to Neutragena oil free face sunscreen which isn’t perfect, but is a heck of a lot more matte than this! ... show more
