Color: 1-Pack PVC Collar
I have seen many versions of training collars, and this one has the best of all worlds. I have used it for about two months before writing this review and not have had any problems, at all. It is one of the least expensive training collars, but one of the best in terms of features, range, and battery life. It's range is one of the longest: Austin has a HUGE open-lawn dog park (Zilker), and it works at more than two or three football fields away. If I can see him, the signal will reach him. (He turns to find me when it beeps.) The hand held remote is small but functional and easy to use even for my XL "man hands." The functions on the remote are intuitive and clear. The display is large and clear to read even in bright sunlight. The display also lights up with an "Indiglow" type blue backlight, so you can read it at night. The shock and vibrate features scale from 1-100, giving you a broad range of settings to adjust to your dog depending on how much encouragement s/he needs. It also has shock, vibrate, and audible beep modes. It also comes with silicone nubbies that cover the shock nodes and reduce the severity if desired. The small LED flashlight is the perfect level to look for poop or see where you are going at dusk or nighttime. The battery life is also surprisingly good. The remote holds its charge much longer because it is not using energy to produce a shock. It has a battery level indicator on the display. The only complaint I have is that the collar does not appear to have a battery meter, so you don't know when it needs a charge. As many dog owners have told me before I bought this one, you really only need to use the shock feature a couple of times before the dog learns to honor the collar. The shock is uncomfortable but does not do permanent injury. (Anyone who uses the shock feature repeatedly is doing it wrong). Even when you need to use the shock, it merely serves as a temporary reminder. Although the highest level is akin to a mild taser, the lower levels are more like soft taps. Some huge dogs might need the highest level. My dog is medium-large (50 pounds), and I have not needed to go above 30/100. After the initial two or three shocks, usually the beep works as a reminder to listen to what your command is. My dog is very loyal and does well staying next to me while off-leash. But his weakness is his enthusiasm (and speed) when seeing other dogs, and he kept running to other dogs in the park while off leash no matter what I did (yell, run, use treats, etc.). So I needed something to reinforce commands so he did not startle others or unnecessarily create conflicts. It worked. Two or three small shocks and he now obeys when he hears the beep: almost as if it is a reminder "don't ignore him." He now obeys better even when the collar is not on, which helps us avoid innocent confrontations or conflicts. Overall, it is a well-made product with all the features I can imagine you would need, and it does its job very well. Very happy with it. ... show more

    • This unit is good and has some some nice features, but it's not perfect.
We've purchased this unit after our dog lost his last one in 3 months ago. Overall this is pretty good. Range is fine for us but we've never tested it anywhere near the max. It's easy to set up and use. In our limited experience it works fine in the rain. We were out on a hike in heavy rain for 3 hours. The unit performed without a problem. The receiver collar is less bulky and stays adjusted much better than our last unit. It has a flashing light (the two collars have different colors) so you dog is easy to spot in the dark. This is the first time we had a unit with rechargeable batteries. We get at least 3 weeks per charge. I don't miss taking the unit apart or running to the store for batteries. The controller is fairly small approx. 1.75" x 3.75" not counting the antenna. So it fits easily in a pocket. But I'm wearing gloves in the morning and evening walks already and it's difficult to push the correct button because the control buttons are spaced close together. It comes with a lanyard so you can tie it to a belt loop or whatever. I wrap it around my wrist. The controller display is easy to read day or night. There's a little flashlight on the controller so if your a responsible dog owner it helps when cleaning up at night. One thing we don't like are the "level" settings for the sound and correction shock. The settings go from 1 to 100. 1 to 10 would be more than adequate. Really 1 to 5 works. Unfortunately the crystals in the controller died. The good news is the vendor replaced it. It took a couple emails and 4 weeks but we did get a new one. ... show more

The media could not be loaded. **Update- company sent a replacement collar and Im okay with that outcome.** I bought this three pack for my dogs. I liked the convenience of one remote for all. The colors are vibrant and easy to determine which color belongs on which channel. The remote feels cheap, but works very well. It's easy to understand and quick to change channels for each dog. No complaints on the functionality of the remote. The BLACK collar has been on one of my males since it was initially charged. Holds a charge very well. And I like the reflective strip to help locate him at night. Thus far, I've only used the beep function. This is not our first time with training collars so nothing else has been needed. Yet. The ORANGE collar- I put this collar on my female couch potato pitty. It has been on her for maybe 36 hours. As you can see, the orange "coating" is cracked and peeling off. The reflective strip is peeled back from where I trimmed the excess. The coating on the orange collar feels completely different from the black collar. The YELLOW collar- I have not put this on any of my dogs yet. I'm worried about how the coating will hold up, since the yellow is for my younger male. The functionality of the training peice seems to work well. Again, I've only used the beep, but have successfully switched between each channel and see no issues. Overall, it does the job. I'm more upset that I new how to replace 3 flat collars at a minimum of $10 a peice since these flat collars are unacceptable. ... show more
