I’ve been looking for several solid cases to hold small telescopes and accessories that were a bit more affordable than the industry standard Pelican cases. A lot of the cases I looked at, like those at a well-known chain imported tool store, were not of the quality I was looking for. But these Eyeler cases had a ton of positive reviews, so I ordered one, thinking if I liked it, I might order some larger ones as well. On the whole, I’m favorably impressed. Construction is better than most of the inexpensive cases. It operates smoothly and feels solid. This one is just large enough to hold my 50mm finder/guidescope and an eyepiece or two. But it does have a few flaws. My sample has some ugly flashing on the rear from some sloppy molding or finishing. I can fix this with some sanding, but it really should have been caught in quality control. The foam insert is undersized, with a very visible gap all around. I may replace that. The hinge pins are of a good size, but I’d like to see a slightly bigger pin in the latches. But overall, it’s a solidly built case and a reasonable value. ... show more

    • Sturdy dry case for valuables

The latches seem sturdy and close case securely, it has a twist off knob to equalize the pressure in the case. The know is not a release valve button, and it screws completely out of the case. The case has a metal female port where the knob screws into the case. The lid has egg crate shaped foam and the bottom foam consists of two pieces. One piece is about 1 cm thick and the piece of foam is precut with little squares so you remove them as you need. The case can be secured with a lock that you purchase separately. ... show more

    • It’s ok but not great

This case is ok depending on your needs but it could be better. My main issue as others have noted, is the lid goes past 90 degrees which causes the case to tip back when opened. The weight of my pistol with a loaded mag wasn’t even enough to keep it down. The quality of the case is decent with some manufacturing blemishes on the back of the case and lid presumably from the molding process, and the latch hinges rub a little and aren’t as smooth as a Pelican. Other than the tipping back issue, the other things aren’t deal breakers and if you just need a cheap case this will work. The foam is a little less firm than a pelican case which you may or may not like. I bought this case and a pelican 1170 to make a pistol case and decided to keep the pelican and return this one. The 1170 is almost twice as much but I think it’s worth it. Pelican has a proven history of quality and reliability and the fit and finish quality of the cases is much better. Overall I would only recommend this case if the tipping back isn’t an issue for you or if you are just going to store something in it and note use it very often. Otherwise I would say spend a little more for a Pelican. ... show more
