I have owned this board for 6 months and like the large size, groove and solid weight. When received, there was a minor defect with small notch cut into one corner of the groove (see photo). It wasn't a deal killer and I was happy to retain and use the board. Today, as I was oiling the board, however, a much more serious problem became apparent. A layer of the bamboo laminate near the cutting surface showed a crack (see photo) that suggests a separation between layers of bamboo. I'm in public health and worry that this crack may harbor food juices and bacteria despite best efforts at cleaning. It essentially makes this cutting board worse than useless, in my opinion. I've taken great care of this board: handwash only, regular oiling followed by application of cutting board wax. One other aspect to be aware of is the rough particles of bamboo that are shed by the board which may just be the nature of bamboo cutting boards perhaps. Updated and revised (March 1, 2018): Rating changed from 1 star to 5 stars for customer service experience In response to the review, I received a communication from Sharon at SoulFino who dispatched a replacement cutting board which I received today. It arrived in good condition with no visible defects. Based on how I liked the product and the outstanding customer service, I would feel confident in purchasing from this vendor again. I'm hopeful that the defect I experienced was not typical, and am confident that they will stand by their products.

I had a Boos Board that split after only a couple months despite constant oiling... Said screw it, won't get another expensive board again and got this... Wish I had bought this all along, had it almost a year, no sign of wear and tear (except for the expected cut marks). Can be washed with soap and water without worrying about it splitting if you don't get it dry immediately then oil it... If you are looking for a good cutting board and thinking between this and a Boos board... just get this - The Boos board is too high maintenance for a home chef. The focus of your efforts should be on the food, not treating the cutting board like a fine piece of silver.

This is a beauty. Looks fantastic in my kitchen and complements my granite countertops and backsplash. The board is definitely heavy. Although the quality is apparent, the only issue is the fact that it's very dry. Like really dry. It seems very thirsty. I've read the instructions for care and mineral oil is at the top of my grocery list. I'll report back in a few months. I think this board may outlive me. I'm so ready to put it to work. My kitchen sink is one sink. I feel I would have sent this back and traded out for a smaller one if I didn't have a sink large enough to comfortably turn it over and around while cleaning it. I purchased a knife set almost 6 months ago. An expensive knife set I've been unable to enjoy until I could replace my old cutting boards. One plastic and one wooden. The latter was a wedding gift 17 years ago and although I can't say what kind of wood it actually is, it's never been oiled or waxed or babied in any way. It's actually been abused. The plastic one went out with the trash a few days ago. The wooden one is kind of sentimental and I'm not ready to part with it just yet. I am going to issue that one to my husband when he helps in the kitchen. The old board and the old knife that I saved from out old, very old..set. Beautiful piece of wood! I think it would be a lovely wedding/housewarming gift.

I got tired of boards that would warp, slip, wobble and otherwise make food preparation a chore (or even risky). So I wanted a board that was super solid, stable, and large enough for various tasks. This board serves well. Be advised, however: (1) This board is hefty (ca. 6 lbs) and large, so make sure you don't mind wrestling with it a bit if you don't keep it on your counter-top; (2) The bamboo appears to be somewhat denser than maple, so you might have to retouch the edge of your chef's knife more frequently (I have a 1950's Sabatier carbon steel Chefs knife). You can save the edge by using a light touch, which works fine if you handle the blade properly...and all knives should ALWAYS be handled properly, something I learned in Boy Scouts 63 years ago. Several pluses: (1) This board holds up very well to heavy chopping with a cleaver, something I do a lot; (2) Aside from its weight, it is easy to clean, important if you're working with chicken; (3) It comes pre-treated. The Manufacturer recommends rubbing it with food-grade mineral oil or equivalent every 30 days. (Note: you can get that in the laxative section of your drug store). The board can be used on either side. One side is flat across, and the other had a groove to catch drippings. Some reviewers complained about the depth of the groove, but I have not found that to be a problem.

12-2-22 Update to my original review. Customer service has had nothing to say at all so we returned the board and received our refund from Amazon. Extremely disappointed in this product. We've literally owned it now for just a couple of weeks and used it only a few times and followed the cleaning instructions to a tee. According to what they say it does come pre-oiled/treated but very unsure about this. The seams are starting to split on both sides of the board already. Not even the cheapest Walmart board we had in the past did this so soon. It'll be interesting to see what customer service has to say about this. As far as the looks of this board it does look very nice upon arrival and brand new condition.
