Cons: The bracket to install these is longer than average. So, even when you install inside the window frame, they stick out slightly. This lets a lot of light come in through the sides. Light also filters through the stitches along all the seams, so I would not consider these blackout at all. There are very minor inconsistencies and mistakes in the material, so if you look close, you can tell they aren't high quality. The back is not lined and looks a bit odd from the outside, with the roller shade significantly narrower than the shade. Odd choice in design... Pros: They are still a solid set of shades that look good at a reasonable price. Thus far they function perfectly and go up and down easily. The media could not be loaded. Note: be sure to measure the wood trim at the top of your inner window frame if you plan to install inside rather than above. I made the mistake of measuring from window to outer trim, and the brackets couldn't be screwed into it as the wood trim was too narrow. We installed above, and wish we'd gotten a couple inches larger to suit this option. It still looks great though (: I love the fabric, they have a textured pearly/silky sheen to them mixed with a flat linen look which was exactly what I was looking for. With a light tug, they roll themselves right back up. They do have a bit of a tent like sound to them but I don't mind. They look fabulous (: easy to install as well. Some reviewers said it looked like just a piece of fabric over the windows when they're down, but my window is 48 inches tall, we got I think the 60 inch ones? So they still have a pretty fold at the bottom that makes it look nice (: the "you get what you pay for" comments had me so nervous but I'm very happy with these. I will say, the backing for room darkening is a bit cheap, it feels like a vinyl tent and crinkles and creases like paper. ... show more

Overall a great shade for the price. The material is shinier than I expected and looks a little cheap but honestly I still like them. Also the exterior vanilla shade velcros at the top and clips onto the blackout liner so another fabric could easily be DIYed.

The shear under the Roman shade is what I was looking for to replace something similar that needed to be replaced on the windows of my sliding glass door. Installed it, fabric tore upon opening. It has a weird velcro backing that detached when I pulled to shut the shade so now it's uneven. Also for some reason the threading has these gaps that let in more light than necessary. For the price it should have lasted longer than 40 seconds. Don't buy this.
