  • Works great, had a problem, and the seller was super responsive to remedy.
Color: Black (Without Fuel Gauge)
Well, it works great due to fantastic customer service. Here is what happened. When I first received it in the mail. I tried it and it worked fine, but....the head moved noticeable which I thought was kind of strange but it worked, flames on easily, has a good mechanism to stop the gas from flowing, hand guard, and nice blue flame that was adjustable with turning the knob. Besides that movement, the quality of the materials used for this product is well made. I like the foot it has to keep it standing up, and it has a straightforward lighting mechanism and procedure. Slide back that red tab, which is a good safety feature, you hear the hissing of the butane, then push the trigger right above it, it causes a spark and ignites the butane, fast and simple. To close, just turn that know the opposite direction until that red tab clicks in and locks it Simple. Of course, you have to supply the butane, it comes empty for good reasons. So when I got an email about how was my purchase, I mentioned it was okay but it move a bit, they immediately reply and helped me with checking the screws on the bottom if that was the cause of the movement, I tighten them as suggested but it was still moving, so after I replied it was still moving, they sent me an email notifying me I would get a replacement in the mail. Well, the very next day, there it was in my mailbox, the replacement torch and it works fine no movement. So they do stand behind their product and are quick to help remedy. I must of gotten a 1 in million defect, which happens, but the seller was super responsive to fix the problem. Now...I can test it on a lemon meringue pie I am planning this coming weekend and for my future baking needs. Hurray, Great seller service on their product too. ... show more

  • I Wish I Bought this 6 Months Ago
Color: Black (Without Fuel Gauge)
It is really hard to complain about this kitchen torch. My only complaint right now is that I didn't buy it sooner. I'm an avid home chef, and I've been gradually adding to my culinary collection. In these past 12 months I've been studying baking and pastry, which requires the use of a culinary torch for certain preparations like crème brûlée. It really sucks not being able to make it just because you were too cheap to buy a damn culinary torch. Last November I bought an Anova sous vide precision cooker, and it was easy to learn how to perform marvelous cooks with it. However, there is still a gap. You can cook meat and veggies perfectly all the way through with your immersion cooker, but there is also a searing step at the end. Without a culinary torch, there is still a gap between what a fancy steak restaurant can do for you costing $150 and what you can do for yourself at home for $15. Pan searing alone only gets you so far, and I quickly realized this. There is an element of crispy crustiness you can achieve with a good torch like this one, with a depth of color, flavor and texture introduced to the meat that is plainly out of reach when you're stuck with just a frying pan. I would say another benefit is you don't have to sear at such a high pan temperature. With a torch you can sear and a medium high temp, developing a more robust crust having a greater range of texture, while finishing off all sides of the meat with the torch flame. The result is something even the fanciest steak houses can't touch. For Valentine's Day, New Year's, anniversaries, or other special occasions, imagine buying some USDA Prime tomahawk ribeye and lobster tail, and eating a nice dinner with wine or champagne at home. Some of the cost savings can go toward flowers, jewelry, or other gifts to make her feel special. The main course literally costs a fifth what you'd pay at a fancy restaurant, and the food outcome is better, hands down. So if you're still questioning the value of using a torch to sear your sous vide cook, close the stupid gap and get yourself a good kitchen torch. I've used this thing three times in the last three days to finish off pork loin, and this is easily the best pork I've ever had. It's really worth the measly $20 they're asking, and it's easy to maintain and use. The instructions for use fit on half a postcard, and if you still have doubts just find any YouTube video on how to use culinary torches. Whenever you need butane you just go down to the local Home Depot or Lowes and get any standard $5 canister of it. I'm broke as a joke trying to finance a video game company on a teensy income, but I still was able to set aside enough money to eat well. You don't need to spend $50 or $100 to solve all your culinary torch issues. It really only costs you $20. I'm a satisfied customer, and these guys earned their 5 star review. ... show more

  • and tonight I made my first fine silver ring with it
Color: Black (Without Fuel Gauge)
I got this torch today in the mail, and tonight I made my first fine silver ring with it. The ring was tiny- less than 1mm in diameter, because I wanted to try it on some inexpensive silver wire before switching to heavier gauge silver. I was worried about power, but it got the silver wire fiery hot enough to fuse the ring joint. In about 20-30 seconds. I'm just starting out making simple rings and earrings, and I didn't want to spend a lot of money on an expensive torch. Plus, I was a little afraid of the flame. There is a dial on the back of the torch where you can go from a flame about 1 cm all the way to about a 3 inch flame. So it gets plenty hot but you can always dial it back. I actually used it indoors at my craft desk (which has a metal top), so if you're using it in the kitchen you shouldn't worry about setting anything on fire. The plastic is hard and feels hefty, especially filled with butane. I like the little red lock button, which closes with a satisfying smack when you turn it off. There is no guessing about whether it is turned off or not-- you will know when you hear the lock engage. The platform is wide and has nice balance and you can put the torch down without looking straight at it, which is good because I am usually looking at the ring. I didn't like the fact that at a given level, the flame peters out after about 10 seconds. It doesn't extinguish, it just poops out a little and I had to crank up the knob to get it back to a higher flame. I guess I need to experiment with it. Now for fuel: No one wants to pay Amazon's high prices for zippo butane, but you probably should buy it from Amazon anyway. I went on Zippo.com and got a list of everyone who supposedly sells this butane fuel and started calling. Store after store told me that they sell it, but they have not received any shipments of the product in the past 4 months. Everyone told me 4 months. I dont know what is going on with the zippo butane supply, but you may want to grit your teeth and purchase the zippo from Amazon along with your torch. Walmart doesn't sell it and practically everyone else is sold out. Your best bet is a hunting or outdoor supply store like Cabelas or Sporting Warehouse, but better to pay Amazon a few dollars extra than waste gas driving all over town to find zippo butane. Unfortunately, you cannot use cheap butane fuel that you get in the camping section (like Coleman brand), because the nozzle on those cheap cans of butane is too short. If you try to fill this (and other) torches with the camping butane, it will just spill all over on the floor. I have taken a picture of the two different kinds, shown side by side. You have to get the long nose cannister. The butane I ended up buying is Neon Brand, made in China. It is quintuple Refined premium butane, so you foodies can use it on your desserts and sous vide snacks. They sell it on amazon as well. It is measured in fl. oz., unlike zippo which is measured in oz. so I don't know what the conversion rate is. About $6 for a 10.14 fl oz. can. In conclusion, I bought this as an entry tool into jewelry making, and it did fine for soldering small stackable type rings. I bought this because it was cheap and also because I was afraid of using a bigger torch. This works great for anyone starting out and needs a hobby torch. ... show more
