  • Could've been 5 stars. Comparison to Ring Doorbell Pro.
Overall, pretty happy with this Eufy 2K wired doorbell. This is the second Eufy wired doorbell that I've installed (one for my father and one for me), and this particular Eufy replaced a Ring Doorbell Pro - so most of my review compares the Eufy to the Ring. Installation process: My Ring was actually a replacement for one that was DOA, and I spent a lot of time on the phone with Ring trying to troubleshoot that first DOA one before determining it was just a bad unit. Installation of the replacement Ring was without too much hassle, but I'd say that installing the Eufy was very straightforward. I'd give the edge to the Eufy. My only real complaint is there are probably lots of people that dump their Ring doorbells for Eufy, and it would've been appreciated if the Eufy mounting plate had the same hole spacing as Ring. (I modified the mounting plate to avoid drilling more holes in my brick, and it was a real challenge and took over an hour to make the mounting plate modifications and get the Eufy to click into place afterward...would've been so easy for Eufy to provide extra mounting holes or slots with their mounting plate to begin with.) The Eufy 2K has good video quality (2K); the Ring Doorbell Pro was 1080p and totally adequate, but not quite as sharp. Compared to the previous Ring I owned, I especially appreciate that no fees are required to access stored videos on the Eufy! Here's why: On both units, there is some lag from when a delivery person is first seen by the doorbell and when I get notification on my phone about the delivery person (seemed like the Ring lagged worse). For Eufy, I get a nice alert notification on my phone showing a picture of who is at my door. If it's a picture of the UPS guy, great...I just know that a package was delivered. And if I want to see the video, the Eufy uses onboard memory to store the video...which I can download if I want to. In the same scenario with Ring, I would get a text alert on my phone that someone was at my door, but no picture - I had to actually go into the Ring app to see who it is. By the time I was able to access the Ring live view on my phone, the delivery person was long gone and I couldn't even see the delivered package because it was right next to the door and outside the view of the camera (BTW, seems like both Ring and Eufy should make their videos in portrait mode optional so the camera could see a short package sitting on your welcome mat). So with Ring, you are pretty much REQUIRED to pay like $30/year for the privilege to see your stored video in the cloud to know who came to your door. Integration with Alexa: Ring does this quite well. With Ring, my Echo devices would tell me "Someone is at your front door" as the Ring saw someone approaching my front door, and I don't believe that Eufy does this. (11/22/21 Update: Actually, the Echo DOES tell me that someone is at the front door with the Eufy; just need to have the Eufy skill lined to Alexa and go to Alexa Devices/Cameras/Doorbell/Settings and turn on "Motion Announcements".) If you have an Echo Show, you can ask it to show your doorbell with either Ring or Eufy and get live video. These features are both kind of neat, but also kind of "who cares". Integration with existing home wiring: Not a big deal, but I think Ring has a slight edge here. My house came with two doorbell chimes (one upstairs and one downstairs) and Ring would ring both chimes. With Eufy, you get a chime that plugs into the wall; it does not ring the prewired chimes in your house. So with Eufy, I have to find an available outlet to plug the chime into and sync the chime to the doorbell. To hear the doorbell ring both upstairs and downstairs, I'll need to buy another chime from Eufy ($30). (11/22/21 Update: Or just have the Alexa app do Motion Announcements and Doorbell Press Announcements so your Echoes all tell you when the doorbell is pressed.) Security: Ring is a bit better, but not sure it matters for me. The Ring videos are stored in the cloud, whereas the Eufy videos are stored in the doorbell. If your doorbell gets stolen, I guess you'd be out of luck with Eufy. And I think it's a little bit easier to steal the Eufy compared to the Ring - to remove the Eufy you stick a pin into its bottom to release it; to remove the Ring you use your special security screwdriver, after popping off the cover plate, to remove a special screw. In either case, I think if someone wants your doorbell, they can just rip it off without too much effort, so that's why the Ring is theoretically better (with videos in the cloud). And I think the Ring app does a great job of integrating with other Ring users in surrounding neighborhoods and really liked that part of the experience. With Eufy, there's no "neighborhood" feature that I'm aware of. Durability: Too soon to know, but I'll go out on a limb and give Eufy the advantage. I have had Eufy wireless security cameras for a couple years and they've worked without any issues. For Ring, the first Ring was DOA. Its replacement worked for about 2-1/2 years before I got a spinning white light of death (bad wi-fi). Reading Ring reviews, seems like they're just more fragile. So overall, both Ring and Eufy are nice to have, but I actually think the Eufy looks better and works better. If you don't mind paying the annual fee to Ring, it's fine too and you do get something for your money, I suppose. But after a few years of paying for the Ring cloud service, you could've just bought the Eufy and been done with it. ... show more

  • Great Doorbell! Super Day/Night Image quality! EZ install :O)
UPDATE: after about a Month! Motion sensor works OK for approaching the doorbell Sometimes! if passing right to left or left to right its almost useless! We have a Subaru XT Forester with snowflake wheels and while parked it sees the rims as Humans and takes a snapshot of the rim a few times a day! We played the the settings and tried everything but it sometimes sees the porch support beam as a Human and takes pictures of the very top of that! We are keeping it just because of the funny things it captures! It took a snapshot of a beer in my hand and said it was Human, Jacket strings Human, Rims Human but a Huge Oil Delivery Guy approached the bell and it never seen him (ALIEN?) Live Video is good and no Monthly billing is nice! Security? Not So Much! Only had this installed 12 hours and lots to figure out with settings etc. The Install was EZ and I didn't jump out my original Doorbells (2) connected to the Chime Unit but other reviews say it depends on your power supply if you need to jump it out or not? So Far it works great and the picture quality is top notch both DAY & NIGHT, The Quality of the Doorbell is beyond what I expected and heavy not just plastic crapola and has metal mounting brackets. I have no experience with other Video doorbells like the RING but without a monthly service contract this is worth every penny! Like I said I have a lot to figure out with the Settings because I passed by the doorbell 3 times and it only sent one notification saying (HUMAN) with a short video and the other 2 times it didn't see me? Probably not the best security device but I just wanted to see when I'm not home or just not want to answer the door, I'm sure in the settings it needs to be set up better but my OLD Door Chimes Work so the Unit that came with this can go in the basement because I could never hear the door bell down there before. Great product and looks Awesome Super Happy for now and they sent me a $50 discount so for $100 and a one time no monthly fees Its fantastic! Do the Math on the RING Doorbell and after 5-6 years your looking at what $1,000.00 bucks? No Thank You! ... show more
