Keep your household prepared with the FRX2. The hand turbine rechargeable FRX2 is a preparedness radio with AM/FM, all seven NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) weather band stations. Spin the hand turbine for one minute to get 10-15 minutes of radio and flashlight use or place the FRX2 in the sun for a passive charging option. There is also DC power via Mini-USB (included). The 1000 mAh internal battery will always make sure that your Smartphone has enough charge to make a few critical phone calls or send out some texts in the case of an emergency or blackout. This radio has a glow-in- the-dark locater so you can find it easily at night plus a LED flashlight. There’s also a headphone output for individual listening.

The FRX2 is a great little emergency radio. I unpacked the radio and it was very easy to use without even reading the directions...which I rarely do. I started out planning to do a very scientific review by charging it for (X) amount of time then using it's different functions for (X)... Then I left for an impromptu camping trip and got to use it 'as intended'. The first thing I did at home was plug in the FRX2 to make sure it had a full charge. Then used it to charge my cell phone. My iphone 4 (yes a 4, as soon as you're done laughing please read on) was at 16% and it charged it to 74% before the FRX2 was dead. I recharged it in the car on the way to camp. I was surprised at the clear sound of both the radio and weather band in the mountains. So let me first say the FRX2 is a great little item if used exactly as intended...an emergency radio. Once the charge from a wall outlet is depleted, you can basically use it as a radio and weather band and a very weak flashlight. But that's OK, that's what it's for. It will probably not charge your cell phone or small tablet from either the hand crank or solar charger. It just can't get enough juice. If you set it in the sun and use the solar panel it holds enough charge to listen to the radio and WB indefinitely. Same thing with the turbine crank. The directions state turn the handle for 5 minutes which doesn't seem like a long time but IT IS! It also doesn't state which direction to turn the crank so I went with 'clockwise'. I only have a couple criticisms. First, there is no way to tell how much charge is in the FRX. There is a small battery symbol in the upper left of the screen. But it's only function is to tell you WHEN it is receiving a charge. That is not very helpful. The second thing is, once the battery of the FRX is depleted (and there is no warning when that is because of before mentioned) it goes dead. You lose both time and any setting you had before. Which was kind of a big deal because I was in the mountains, with presumably a dead cell phone and no way to tell what time it was. So if you are looking for a device to use to charge a phone or whatever during an emergency this probably is not it. This is a good emergency radio to find out what is going on in the 'outside world'. With just a few little tweaks to the display screen and battery life it could be a great one!

Love the display which makes a great clock and also clearly shows the battery charged level. Have successfully charged from it. makes a decent radio but do not need this since my tablet plays radio stations and has better reception and speakers. the only thing i did not like is that the weather channels receive nothing. this is not a significant disadvantage for me since i bought it to have as a standby charger to use to keep my phones and tablets running during a power outage. Was actually quite pleased with clear time display which i had not known to expect. having a clearly visible clock on my crafting is very convenient since it is easier to glance up at it than to activate my watch.

If you want an everyday radio to listen to with great sound quality, this may not be the best choice. But for when the power goes out and you forgot to buy batteries, this little guy will be a lifesaver. I am actually impressed by the sound clarity and reception even inside our house which makes it tough on any radio. We don't lose power too often, and usually not for very long, but an ice storm a few years ago knocked out the entire region for up to 4 weeks. And then I want to save the batteries for lights. So a hand crank will come in handy, heck, it will warm you up as well.

This is not something you would use a lot since it is for emergencies but it does work. I tested all the features and put it away. The wind up feature gives you very limited power but it is good to have in an emergency. Looks like they have thought of everything-solar power, wind up power, and batteries. A handy radio and flashlight. Very reasonable price compared to other options.

Works well, old, outdated charger port. It has a Mini USB like a 2002 GPS or Phone. Why not a type C?

Purchased the radio for our emergency kit for news (AM), music (FM) and weather (NOAA) and works as long as it's plugged in with the micro-USB cable to an outlet. Where the product failed for me was the internal rechargeable battery would not hold a charge. Cranked for 10 mins, no LED lights or radio (not even for a millisecond (supposed to get 5 mins of radio at least). Plugged the radio in to charge via USB for 4+ hours (and saw the battery charge bar show charging), no LED lights or radio (not even for a millisecond). The radio only uses the rechargable battery (no AA or AAAs), so if the battery fails to charge, the radio is useless. Since the radio cannot be returned per Amazon support, I did get a refund for the full amount (thankfully). I later pulled the rechargeable battery and found it dead, dead, dead w/ no ability to recharge. Contemplating buying a replacement rechargeable battery, but expect it to suffer from the same fate. Think I'll just stay away from the crank-n-charge radios and just buy a AA/AAA radio with NOAA...and stock up on lots of batteries for emergencies instead.

I got this to save my butt in case the zombies attack during the impending apocalypse....I kid of course, this is my anti-HurricaneSandy device. My objective was to have a device that was self powered, had a radio for terrestrial broadcasts and NOAA alerts in case the mobile networks are out and a cell phone charger in case the power is out. Additionally it has a acceptable flashlight. The radio is good, digital tuning etc with FM, AM and NOAA bands, the charger is slow to charge but will do in a pinch. The crank is a bit tough, but I guess that’s to crank out more amps out of such a small dynamo. I like it.
