I am still evaluating this transceiver but am extremely impressed with its capability. I really like the double passband tuning feature and am learning to appreciate the waterfall spectrum display. I am a CW operator and the built in iambic keyer works well at my 20-wpm plus speed. The auto-tuner range is smaller than I would like, only 3:1 swr, but it tunes all my antennas. Voice quality in receive is excellent. (I am not an ICOM rep, agent. or employee!) Amazon does not give enough specifications, so here are important ones: RCV general coverage 30 kHz to 74.8 MHz; transceive; all of us Ham-bands in that frequency range; modes and power, 100w CW, 100w SSB, 100w FM, 100w TTY, 100w digital, 25w am. Interfaces with computer for other capabilities. Amazon ships this transceiver with an 80-page basic manual. You need it! There are dual and multi-purpose switches and frequently switches open menus to open menus. Some functions are touchscreen controlled which also opens menus. Thats why I am still evaluating! ... show more

  • Best of the best but..
The only drawback of this radio, besides what seems like a high price but really isn't, is the fact that older models are HF capable and this one isn't. It's a shame really

  • Seriously sensitive
Okay I recently moved into a rental home so I can't have some massive antenna setup. So I figured I would need some DSP on my side, because I'm going to have some kind of stealth, not great antenna setup. For the fun of it, I sat a quarter wave 50 ohm 2M magnetic mount antenna on a window ledge. Hooked it up to this transceiver. Please don't freak out, I'm not planning on transmitting with this, just wanted to listen. Yeah I have no ground plane or anything, and I'm listening to CW and SSB around 800 miles away and with a tiny bit of filter tweaking, it sounds like a telephone conversation right up to my ear. I absolutely cannot wait to figure out some kind of actual half wave antenna to throw on this bad boy. Not to mention actually grounding it. Lol. I have had a few Kenwood HF rigs and etc, this radio blows them away. The scope alone is worth every dollar. The waterfall... Okay I could go on, but seriously this radio has some kind of freakishly good receiver capabilities. I can barely wait to transmit. But I'm not going to mess around with some weird makeshift stuff. I need to balance out some kind of dipole or something first. If you are reading this, you are obviously considering this radio. Just do it. Icom is amazing, You won't regret it. ... show more
