  • Meter Power
Color: Pale Blue
This is one of the best meters I have ever had. It is accurate, has functions I want and need. Easy to read and understand. Feels sturdy. No issues with fuses and do not think I will have. I take care how it is used and it performs wonderfully. After using this meter for awhile and remembering what I paid for it makes me a happy man. Great product for a very fair price. ... show more

  • Great meter for the price
Color: Red
This is what I recommend to all diy homeowners who may need to measure larger (over ten) amp loads safely. I actually only bought it for the clamp ammeter since I've got 3 professional grade multimeters for daily use, but I find myself using this one more unless I need one of the others for a specific reason. ... show more

  • Initial Impression.......GREAT Value!!!
Color: Red
I received my UT201 yesterday so this is an initial "impression" review with some limited testing of the features. My background is an IBEW inside wireman (electrician) of approximately 13 years, mostly commercial/industrial though with some residential. I've had multiple voltage testers and multi-meters over the years. The last 6-7 years I've been using mostly Fluke testers and meters, my primary being a Fluke T5-600. I purchased the Etekcity UT201 since I wanted an inexpensive True-RMS CLAMP meter for (the occasional) metering of wires too big to fit in the slot/jaws of my T5-600. The UT201 had, for the most part, very positive reviews on Amazon and the price could not be beat for its feature set. The 400A max is adequate for the vast majority of time I would need to check bigger wire. Anyways, out of the box, the UT201 seems to be of impressive "heft" and quality for its price. The display and markings are clear and easy to read. The two leads (black and red cables with probes) are a good length. The thickness of, and insulation on, the leads, though not up to the level of the Fluke or other more expensive testers/meters I have used, seems quite good for the price point. I would not be uncomfortable in using the meter in applications up to its rated max of 600V. Some reviews I read stated the meter other purchasers had received did NOT include a case. Mine did and the case is appropriately sized and of a decent grade material. I tested the voltage and amperage measurements of the UT201 against my Fluke T5-600. I tested the current (amps) draw of my Shop-Vac, a quartz halogen light and hairdryer (on high heat). The amps measured were virtually the same between the Fluke and UT201. I mean plus/minus 0.1 amps, which is negligible. Voltage was check at several different 120V receptacles around my house. Again the readings were virtually identical, plus/minus 0.2 volts. The only other feature I have had the opportunity to "check" is continuity. Just crossing the lead/probe tips indicated continuity (as it should), though the contact of the lead tips did not seem as "sensitive" as other meters/testers I have used. Perhaps due to the newness of the leads or type of metal used, not sure. I wouldn't deduct a star for this, maybe 1/2 a star if that was an option. Though long term it may not even turn out to be an issue. Other reviewers had "complained" about the lack of auto-ranging and auto shut-off. At this price point I do not expect auto-ranging. My unit DOES have an auto shut-off feature built in (around 15 min. of non-use) and I believe it actually beeped when it shut-off (though I was in another room at the time). User instructions were included. They were relatively clear and I believe they would be relatively easy for a new or novice user to follow. There was no UL listing on the device or in the instructions that I could find. In summary, my initial impressions of my new UT201 are very positive. I can't comment on the durability or long-term accuracy, since I only received it yesterday. It is for that reason that, as of now, I will only give it a 4-star rating. Based on what I see and my limited testing, I would definitely recommend the UT-201 to someone looking for a (very) reasonably priced, full-featured, clamp-on multimeter. If during the course of time and usage I have any significantly negative experiences with the unit I will try to update this review. ... show more

  • Best Affordable Multimeter on Amazon
Color: Pale Blue
Winner winner, chicken dinner! Yeah I’ve been watching Dave on EEVBlog videos.... This is one of the best $35 multimeter that you will find on Amazon. Compared to other meters in this price range, it’s a no brainer. It comes with nice test lead probes, with alligator clips, along with a thermocoupler lead. The obligatory signal trace test with the comfortable leads was excellent. No delayed pause in hearing a beep with the leads are touched together. I haven’t tried with my nice BK Precision test leads, but I’m sure the meter will react even faster. I’ve tried a few other tests like NCV and temp, and they are all good. The backlight is a soft blue that completely lights up the HUGE display. No squinting needed for this meter! The dial turns good with little deflection. The rear stand is big also, and is very stable as it sets the meter up at a nice viewing angle. If you’re looking for a case for this meter, the rounding up measurements are 4”x 8”x 2.5”. Here is the main reason why I purchased this multimeter, it does DC mV, with no fumbling the dials and switches to get to it. I needed a meter to look at the negative DC mV for biasing power tubes in guitar amps. The second reason is safety. It has two ceramic fuses, 0.6mA 1000V and 10A 1000V. So, here’s the negatives about this meter. I mean you’re not going to get a Fluke 87V for this price. The accuracy ain’t the greatest. It’s a 0.8% meter. Yeah that’s why it’s $35 with so many measuring and safety features. Thankfully guitar tube amps are low tech, so I don’t have to worry about extreme accuracy. But if Etekcity could take this meter and bump up the accuracy to below 0.1%, I’d happily pay a lot more for it. I just really like this meter for not only the looks, the form function, price, and even the BK Precision style blue and white colors, but also the safety of the ceramic fuses. Good job Etekcity! ... show more

  • Great cheap meter
Color: Red
I have a $500 Fluke 87V and I never use it anymore because this meter is so amazing! I am an industrial mechanic so I troubleshoot lots of electrical problems, 24V sensors, PLC I/O, heaters, pumps, 480V motors, 120V residential wiring, etc. This thing is accurate enough and is great for troubleshooting, plus it's so cheap. The only things I don't like: it doesn't have a backlight and sometimes I have to bang the batteries to get it to turn on. I even once accidentally tried to ohm a live circuit (dumb electrician ran power from another room past all the breakers into the room I was working in), and it still worked with no need to replace a fuse. I definitely recommend this unless you're doing something extremely accurate. ... show more

  • Almost perfect
Color: Red
This is a good multimeter that picks up readings very easily. My issue with it is the clamp is sticky, meaning when you pull it, it feels like it has a lot of tension and then you need to work through what feels like notches to have it fully open. It clamps back just fine though. Maybe time will allow the spring to ease up but out of the box, the clamp is very tiring to use. Probes are good for the price and like that it comes with a case to keep everything together. The dial doesnt feel cheap and screen is easy to read. ... show more
