I’m so glad I found this, it works just as well and costs less. I tested both on my hand and the results were identical. I’ve been using it for a few weeks and could not be happier. It lasts all day with minimal under eye smudging. Nice to have two options. Sharpen it! The pencil looks to be plastic, but it can be sharpened. This product does not contain any microplastics and it works better than Stila gel eyeliner. It does not draw a harsh fake line, but a softer, smudgy look and safe for waterline. It lasts all day, especially if I use eyeshadow over it. And the price is unbeatable.

I picked up the essence Stay & Play Gel Eyeliner on a whim, and it’s honestly one of the best budget eyeliners I’ve tried. It’s super soft, glides on easily, and stays in place most of the day. Pros: Smooth Application: The gel formula is creamy and easy to apply—no tugging or skipping. Great Pigment: Comes out bold and rich, even in one swipe. Affordable: At this price, it’s a steal—feels like a product twice the cost. Waterline Friendly: Gentle enough to use on the waterline without irritation. Decent Staying Power: Holds up well through most of the day without major smudging. Cons: Needs Sharpening: It’s not a twist-up, so you’ll need a sharpener to keep the tip precise. Can Smudge on Oily Skin: If you have very oily lids, it may fade or smudge after a few hours. Not Waterproof: It’s long-lasting, but not completely waterproof—will fade with heavy sweating or rubbing. Got this in the color nude specifically for my lower waterline, the color is a bright nude, almost shocking. Not sure why it's called "Stay & Play" because it doesn't even "stay & work". Once applied there are gaps or breaks in the line of color. It also dissipates while wearing, especially in the corner near tear ducts, and I'm not a watery eyed woman. Absolutely zero stickiness, has a nice texture, brightens/widens my eyes(nude color), however it is not waterproof. Another thing that boggles my mind is I cannot figure out how to sharpen the pencil! I've tried multiple times and to no avail. Otherwise, I am quite pleased with the price point and consider this a decent product, especially if it doesn't skip and you're able to sharpen it.
