  • Beautiful, thoughtfully designed, works well, low profile and exactly as advertised.
The media could not be loaded. This is a wonderful, budget espresso machine. You can definitely find machines that do more or have double boilers and on-board grinders, but not in this price range. I’m very happy with this machine. This is my third espresso machine. I have a large, fancy, expensive model for my kitchen. I also have a smaller one similar to this for my work. I will be replacing that one with this new one and giving the other to my husband for his office. It works great, too, but this one has a much larger water tank. This saves me from having to refill so frequently. It also is shorter and wider. It having a low profile means I can place it under cabinets and still warm my mug on top. I couldn’t do that with the other one as it was too tall. The width is nice, too, because I have more room on the tray for multiple shots or for a scale. Plus, the warming tray on top can warm multiple vessels. This listing suggests around 18 grams of coffee powder for the double shot basket. I found that to be too much. A little over 14 grams of freshly ground coffee works perfectly for me. The portafilter is 51mm, which is great since my other small machine is the same size. So I can use some of the tools from that with this machine. I like using a dosing funnel, a stir tool, a leveler and a tamper. This espresso machine does come with a plastic tamper with a coffee scoop on the other end, but it does not have the other accessories I mentioned or a frothing pitcher. The portafilter can either be used with a single filter basket or double. Both are included. I always do double shots, so I have yet to try the single. The filter baskets have a notch that you line up with the handle of the portafilter to get it in and out. I like this feature. The filter baskets I have used previously I have always had to pry out using a spoon or something because they fit so snuggly. These baskets are kept in by the notch. You drop the basket into the portafilter based on the notch and then turn it to keep it in. When you’d like to remove it, simply line up the notch and pull it out. No strength needed. The digital readout is large and clearly legible. The buttons are also labeled and easy to see and understand. You have Power, Single Shot, Double Shot and Steam. The only complaint that I have with this machine is that you can go from brewing to steam, but not vice versa. Once you choose steam you will have to wait for the machine to cool before you can brew again. This is where a double boiler would be handy. For some reason my other small machine doesn’t have this issue in spite of it also not having a double boiler. If you try to go back to brewing espresso after using the steam function you will get an error message. Simply let the machine cool for a little while and try again. The steam wand moves around enough to get a good angle for frothing milk. Even with my soy milk I’m able to get a pretty good result. I suggest reading through the manual and checking the sticker on the side of the machine before getting started. When my machine arrived, I quickly set everything up, washed it and then tried to run water through it. Not realizing that I may have to let the steam wand run for a bit to get air bubbles out, I assumed my machine was broken. Lo and behold, there’s a sticker right there on the side of the machine that explains why you may not be getting water through your machine. So don’t be like me. Read the instructions. For the current price of $199.99, I believe this is a good buy for a great machine. I definitely enjoy it and recommend it. ... show more

  • Great machine for all
This ILAVIE 20 Bar Espresso Machine is quite impressive, especially if you’re someone just starting out in “the art of espresso.” It’s not just perfect for beginners, but it’s great for even the seasoned barista. This machine is also great for someone with limited counter space but who still wants to enjoy quality espresso at home. This machine comes with everything you need to get started, and as you get more experienced, you can always add on more advanced tools. I like that it has a warming rack, which can be used for many purposes, but for me it keeps my cups warm and ready. One of my favorite features is the rotating steam/frother wand—it’s longer than most, allowing you to use a range of cup or pitcher sizes, which is a big plus for making the perfect froth. Another great thing on this machine is that most of the parts are removable and easy to clean, which makes maintenance hassle-free. The overall size is another bonus. It’s compact enough to fit perfectly under my cupboards. No more needing to rearrange the kitchen trying to make it fit nor putting it in an awkward space. Something I wanted to mention: For those moments when you use the frother and then want to immediately make another coffee or espresso, you might encounter an error code. Don’t worry! There is no need to wait for the machine to cool down. Just release some hot water out from the steaming/frothing nozzle for a few seconds to bring it back down to the right temperature, and you’re good to start brewing again. Overall, this ILAVIE espresso machine is a fantastic choice for all coffee and espresso lovers. It’s reliable, easy to use, and thoughtfully designed—plus, the price is fairly reasonable for this type of exquisite machine. Highly recommend! ... show more

  • I got a café at home!
This is my first real espresso machine. I have been intimidated by the number of steps they all seem to have. My husband was the first to use the machine, he's better at reading and following directions than me. He showed me how to use it and I'm in love. It's actually pretty simple to use. Use whole bean coffee, grind it really fine (we have a burr grinder and we have had a bladed grinder- both can achieve this but the burr grinder is noticeably better). Add the grounds to the little cup thing, use the tamper (plastic stick with a plate on the end) to compress the grounds. And twist it I guess to seal the grounds. Put the cup thing in the machine, left to right (look at the little unlock...lock icons) and press start. I have only done the double shot, it does produce a ton (which I knew). So I do the double shot twice - move it to a larger cup and then froth my milk and add it. And I've got Starbucks at home. ... show more

  • Amazing Quality
This is a great entry level espresso machine. It is solid, looks like the ones in your favorite stand, but is a little lighter weight (of course) It is easy to use, has a super generous & easy to fill water tank, and makes a lovely cup of espresso. I have tried various grams of coffee, and some grinds seem to need the 18, some need less, some need a little more. Don't be afraid to experiment a little. The espresso basket is easy to remove, unlike other machines I have used, so changing from a double to single is easy easy easy. The steam wand is awesome on this one, unlike others, you can get good angles on the milk used. I used 2% and coconut, both worked nicely (though the real milk foams up better, of course). It is fairly compact for an espresso machine, but is bigger than a standard coffee machine, but smaller than the big fancy home espresso machines I have used. ... show more

  • Nice Machine, not too bulky.
I love expresso but Ive been hesitant to buy a machine because of the size. Not alot of countertop space for me but 5is one is pretty compact, I like that alot. Never heard of this brand before but it looks really nice and solid. Im hopeful this is durable but too early to tell. Gets good pressure for a nice espresso shot. I would recommend it. ... show more
