I’m a complete espresso newb. But I like SB’s espresso. Ha. I like this machine, it was up and running almost as soon as it was out of the box! First few shots the puck was watery, but with subsequent shots I used a bit more grounds and tamped firmer which resulted in a more solid, waterless puck, and more crema in the shot! Sound grounds do end up in the underside of the filter basket, but never in the shot (thus far away). The tamper, in my newbie experience, it’s just a hair too small for the basket, and when I ramp some grounds sort of creep up the sides. This could be normal, but as a newbie I don’t know that. It’s a very minor annoyance. Pros: Easy to use, pretty fool proof. Aesthetically pleasing. Questionable, but not a deal breaker: the machine is light weight, but it is a budget machine. I do have to hold the top of the unit while turning the portafilter to the lock position to run. I think that that is a you get what you pay for sort of thing, though. There are suction cups on the bottom, but you still have to hold to top to lock it in place. Milk steamer worked well! Cons: The water tank is flimsy. I’m concerned it’ll break, and while this is a budget machine, it isn’t the cheapest one, so I did expect a more durable water tank. Overall, as a newbie with only 5 shots under my belt, I’m impressed. I made a latte this morning that rivaled my preferred SB drink, and couldn’t be happier. ... show more

    • So far so good
- First of all the experience with the seller was excellent; he send me right away a message containing the proper instructions to prepare the machine for it's first brew, the manual (PDF) and the insurance that he will replace the machine in case of malfunction. That was a good start, the machine was not even here yet. - Nothing special for unpacking, the packaging is well done and the machine was in perfect shape when it arrived. - A special note for the Manual: for once you don't need a magnifier to read, instructions are clear and simple to follow. Please don't be the guy or gal who does not read the manual because he/she are better that that. - First brew: everything was fine until the insertion of the portafilter. The torque necessary to lock the portafilter in place is overpowering the weight of the machine and the succion cups under it. You have to hold the whole thing to finish locking the portafilter. I suppose this is due to the new gasket that will soften a bit in time making this operation a lot easier. This is why I did bot give a full 5 stars. - i'm still at the very early stage of using the machine so I might return a few weeks for an update. - Until then this machine appears as a good value for the money. ... show more

I had some false straits but once I got things working it’s a good home machines. I wish a video was available, particularly showing the milk frothed.

    • Lightweight to a fault
We were so excited to give this machine a chance. However, it is very difficult to insert the portafilter in just the correct spot. Turning the portafilter to lock it takes a lot of force, understandably. But, the whole machine is so lightweight that you have to hold it down with the other hand. I was only successful in locking the portafilter 1/3 of the time. My husband had to do the rest. It felt like this flimsy feeling machine will break due to amount of force it takes to twist the portafilter n place. Another minor issue, though this may be due to lack of practice, is that the steam wand is unpredictable about when it will drip water and when it will release steam. It splattered and produced way more noise than expected. Ended up returning this machine in favor of a Mr Coffee machine. ... show more

I bought this espresso machine hoping I would enjoy a nice espresso in the am. It was packaged well. It had all the right features out of the box. I followed the instructions on first use. I spent the next 45 minutes dealing with 4 blinking blue lights. The unit included a brochure especially for this anomaly. I tried repeatedly to get the machine to “reset”. The four blinking lights are supposedly due to low water levels. Tank full… check. Steam out check. Reset complete. I followed the instructions precisely and each time I thought I got it right, and then started the brew cycle…wham… 4 blinking lights. Tried again and again. I’m returning the unit as defective. ... show more
