So I owned a Krup espresso maker for 12 years and that was a reliable workhorse. It died, but it was a good machine ($75 on sale). Then I bought an Atatix (spelling?)--it failed after 5 months ($130). So I bought a DeLonghi ($200), but the espresso tasted like plastic and it failed straight away (frother never worked) so returned it promptly for a refund. Now I have the Horavie and it is way better than the Atatix. The digital screen is helpful. Espresso tastes great. Frother works fine. The real test is if it lasts years to come. I will write a follow-up if need be. Otherwise, I like this machine.

This Horavie espresso machine is small enough to easily fit on the counter and brews good coffee. It comes with a coffee scoop that has a tamper on the opposite end to pack the espresso into the filter basket. Friction holds the basket in the portafilter. The basket is easily inserted and removed for cleaning after applying a little force. One cup and two cup baskets are included in the package. The large tank holds enough water for many cups of espresso. I like that it's removeable, so it can be easily brought to the sink to be refilled. The instruction manual is easy to read and includes all the essential information to get the machine running. After unboxing, I recommend running the machine a few times without coffee to reduce the "new product odor" it imparts to the water. Run steam through the steam wand a few times, too. It has a large, brightly lit LCD screen that's easy to read. Four buttons on the front toggle power, number of cups to brew, brewing temperature, and steam mode, respectively. Hitting the cups button once causes it to brew one cup, hitting it twice will brew two cups, and three times makes it brew continuously until stopped. There are three temperature levels. I'm happy with the standard, medium level. Hitting the steam button will prepare the machine to output steam through the steam wand. A knob on the side controls the steam output and intensity. The steam easily froths my oat milk within a minute or so. Turning the knob during the brew mode sends hot water through the wand for Americanos. Running water through the wand also cools the machine down, so it's useful for getting it back to a temperature where it can brew coffee again more quickly after frothing. The cup warmer surface on the top of the machine warms up slowly and is useful for preparing cups if the machine is going to be on for a while. I've never noticed the surface becoming too hot to touch. Overall, I'm very happy with this espresso maker. It's easy to use and clean. I've had it for a month or so, and it feels solid and durable, especially for the price. It's a good value for the price, especially on sale.

The impression that it is a machine that requires a great deal of preparation each and every time is not one that I get. I was able to make a shot much more quickly and with a more natural feel after I became comfortable with it. Due to the fact that even high-quality equipment may become a source of frustration if it slows down at the beginning of the day, this is a very important consideration in real life. particularly on mornings when I needed something stronger and more gratifying than plain brewed coffee, this one helped make espresso seem more accessible at home. It was particularly helpful on such a breakfast. The steadiness was the aspect that I valued the most throughout the course of time. Rather than having one cup that was excellent followed by multiple cups that were not satisfactory, I was seeking a machine that could provide me with a reliable outcome. Through the use of this one, I discovered that it was simpler to establish a consistent habit. Because it allowed me to have some control over how I wanted the drink to come out, depending on the day and what I was in the mood for, the feature that allowed me to modify the temperature was really helpful. There was another reason why I enjoyed having the screen: it made the machine seem less reliant on guessing and more simple. When you are attempting to utilize something on a regular basis rather than simply testing it once, even the smallest of details like that count. To me, it was a significant addition to the value of the situation since it meant that I was not restricted to a standard espresso shot each and every time. On some mornings, I want a cup of coffee that is fast and forthright, but on other occasions, I desire something that is smoother and more relaxed. The inclusion of both choices inside a single machine makes it more practical for use in the house on a daily basis. I did not get the impression that it was a one-purpose device since it was also effective when another person in the family needed a different kind of beverage.
