  • Excellent gear
Small, but not tiny. Reliably boils water quickly with Esbit’s fuel tablets. Low profile - sturdy, and stable. Handle and lid holder are nice features.

  • It fits the way I camp
The rectangular pot is perfect for boiling MRE entrees in their retort pouch. It’s also perfect for boiling water for instant coffee. Remember, you can’t take liquid fuel on airplanes, but you can fly with solid fuel hexamine tabs. So depending on your mission profile, heat tabs might be the only way to go. Hint from Heloise: throw some twigs on top of the hexamine tabs to make your fuel go farther. ... show more

  • Nice kit, kind of expensive, 27g fuel impossible to find
This is a nice kit. It nests well and locks shut securely--and there's plenty of room for fuel tabs and a lighter inside. Some have complained about the stuff sack, but if you get it oriented correctly it fits well. The stove is designed to work with the large Esbit 27g fuel tabs. Good luck finding those in stock. I've used a couple of 14g Expedition Research fuel tabs (hexamine, like Esbit) and achieved a rolling boil surprisingly fast. A single 14g tab would probably work for warming. Clearance is a little tight for efficient use of a Trangia alcohol burner, but a lower-profile alcohol burner might offer an alternative to hexamine. The size and shape is perfect for ramen noodles. Finish is hard anodized aluminum, about the same gauge and feel as other Esbit kits (e.g., the 3-piece and 5-piece cook kits). ... show more

  • Adequate to its task.
This is remarkably overpriced for what you get, It is a stamped out metal tray with a swiveling handle, a lid and a stove base to hold them up, meant to be used with burning hexamine tablets. I could see, right out of the box, the stove flange was slightly bent and had to be forced back into a straight line, The gauge of metal used borders on flimsy. Better plan on putting this at the top of your pack; it won't last long at the bottom. The pan sits precariously on top of the stove, barely held in place. Any uneveness in the ground will compromise that support. This tray/pot purports to hold 1100mm of liquid; maybe so , if you fill it to the brim, which leaves no margin for error, ground tilt, splash over or boiling bubbles. You are maybe safe up to 700 or 800ml; better check and see if your usual food prep calls for that amount or more. If more, you also have to consider the space/volume the ramen or other meal will take in addition to the required liquid. The lid is sits uncomfortably within its flange. When carried, the whole unit.locks up pretty tightly, has room to store tablets and firestarter within and comes with a mesh carry bag ; why you need to carry an aluminum stove in a mesh bag is something for you to determine. Haven't had a chance to use it yet, probably useful to make ramen or heat something out of a can or maybe make a very simple meal, but seems more like a toy that might, in a pinch, save your life. Waited a long time to buy this it at a sale price and upon inspection, feel like I paid more than twice what it's worth. If you can't find the recommended and equally overpriced 27g Esbit hexamine tablets, then use two smaller ones spaced 1/3 and 2/3 of the way apart across the bottom. Final takeway; this item is merely adequate to its task. Adequate is not well done. ... show more

Very lightweight and inferior to Army type cookset

  • Not wind proof enough
I had really high hopes for this to be a wind/storm proof design.. but there are far too many holes on the top layer! Let’s to much wind in when testing breezy conditions.. reduce open area of the top layer by around 50% Esbit engineers.. needs a re-design please. Remove every third hole.
