  • The pros and cons are obvious.
Style: Printer with Scanner and Copier - XP-970
Pros : The image quality is very good, it can print A3 size with great results. CONS : paper is very picky I had a Canon printer that could print well on this double-sided paper, but after many attempts I have determined that this glossy paper does not hold up well with this printer, the ink is very expensive and I am very disappointed. (I didn't just print one sheet. I tried every type of paper.) In addition, even when printing on plain paper, there is a chance that some traces of ink will appear, I cleaned the heads, but it's still the same without any improvement. ... show more

  • Epson 970 disk empty of everything
Style: Printer with Scanner and Copier - XP-970
I have question .....when you received your XP 970....did it come with a disk? and did the disk have anything on it? MY XP 970 disk was absolutely blank, with nada, nothing on it.....but an epson logo....... my computer instantly recognized the printer....but after spending the better part of an hour trying to get the printer to recognize the LAN connection to the computer..I finally went on Epson and found all the missing printer download material.....after that it was fairly easy...but what a waste of time doing what should have been a piece of cake. ... show more

  • So Far, So Good!
Style: Printer with Scanner and Copier - XP-970
I love the easy handling, and superior image quality of the printer and scanner. I use this to copy old photos and am impressed by how faithful the copied images were compared to the originals. The printed photos needed very little and were rendered beautifully. It was also nice that the included ink cartridges were the XL types, an added bonus in a world where printer companies seek to make money off of their ink sales. ... show more

  • Disappointed . . . inkjet calibration was lacking
Style: Printer with Scanner and Copier - XP-970
I read the reviews and this seemed like a good buy. Set up was easy and quick. Plenty of bells and whistles and I was impressed. Until it came to the most important part - printing photo quality images. Setting up the printer requires several steps of printing various test images and then selecting, via the touchscreen, the best image. While slightly tedious, I was more than happy to go through the process for I needed to print photo quality prints. When completed, I printed my first image, a photo of mountains from a summer vacation. To my extreme disappointment, the print had horizontal lines created when the inkjets overlap as they go back and forth to print the image. I tried again, same thing. I then resorted to settings in order to recalibrate the printer and selected what was clearly the best options. I tried printing the same picture, and the horizontal lines, while slightly improved, were still present. And noticeable. I kept trying with different calibration settings but was never able to get rid of the lines. The purpose of a photo quality printer is to print photo quality pictures. Without the horizontal lines (about every inch straight across the paper), I would say this is a decent photo quality printer and probably worth the price. But with the lines, it is not even a crappy printer, and so it will be returned. The bright spot was the ease of set up. The down side is that it is not photo quality. And, so, I am highly disappointed. ... show more

  • Really Impressed with Our New Epson
Style: Printer with Scanner and Copier - XP-970
We previously had an Epson Artisan 810 and it provided excellent service over the 13 years we used it. When the 810 gave up the ghost, we searched for a six color ink (if you print a lot of photographs you will need the six color ink printer.) We landed on this Epson and it has delivered way beyond our expectations. The colors are magnificent. The ease of set up - was, well easy. As an added bonus, this printer hooks up with Apple products with ease. Epson makes some more expensive printers, but for the typical consumer, this printer will exceed your needs. ... show more

  • Still great after 7 years
Style: Printer Only
We got this printer in 2016 to replace an old Brother that had worn out. We don't use every day, and at first it was only on occasion, but since 2020 we've been working from home so we print quite a bit now. Mostly just b&w docs, but I've printed Christmas cards, invitations, and photos for framing on it, and they all have come out nicely with no problems, and the printer is still working like new. It hardly every has a paper jam (like less than once a year), and when it does happen it's easy to remedy. I do have 2 complaints: 1) it does use a lot of ink, so we try to limit how much color prints we make. We don't need the color ink a lot so this isn't a big issue for us 2) If any of the color inks are out, there's no option to only use the black ink. I remember the Brother printer we had could do that, and the lack of that option makes no sense. Overall, after 7 years we are very happy with this printer. ... show more

  • As advertised, very pleased.
Style: Printer with Scanner and Copier - XP-970
I did a lot of research before I bought this printer, including all the reviews and I am glad I did, So far it has performed as Epson said it would. I am not a pro, this is for home use, but I do print a fair amount of photos, documents, and greeting cards, and in my opinion the quality is great. There were a lot of negative comments about set up and connectivity, this is my experience. I unboxed it very carefully and followed the instructions to the letter, set up was a snap, I did go old school with a USB connection, and again I did the software download as instructed, total time about 45 minutes. I then test printed a photo, a document, a greeting card, and did a bed scan and print, I have not done any fine tuning yet and the results are much better than my Canon Mx922. The next day I got an update notice from Epson and downloaded it, so the software is functioning correctly. I have compared print quality with previously printed items and the Epson quality is far above what I compared it with. I did find XL ink packs are hard to find, so I ordered direct from Epson, competitive price and fast delivery. As to functioning, it is fast, and quiet, compared to other printers I have had. One thing I noticed that may cause concern at first is that the first time you do a task, such as a photo or greeting card, it does take awhile to print, but after that it is very fast, I think it is the software interfacing with the PC program. I have now done all of my programs and the print is fast and great quality. I hope my comments are helpful. ... show more
