  • Amazing Photo Printer for Professional Looking Prints
Style: Old Model(PRO-200)
This printer has been amazing for printing my photos, especially larger prints. I print a mix of sizes, and the 11x17 and 13x19 prints have honestly been some of the best results I have gotten from a home printer. I use it for both people photography and nature shots, and the detail comes out really clean. Skin tones look natural, colors have a lot of depth, and nature photos with greens, water, skies, and shadows look really nice without feeling washed out. The biggest thing I like is that the prints actually look professional. This does not feel like a basic photo printer where the pictures are just “good enough.” The photos have that finished look where I would feel comfortable framing them or giving them to someone. The larger prints are where it really shines, because you can see the sharpness and color better. If you are into photography and want to print your own work instead of always sending it out somewhere, this is a really nice setup to have. It has also been easier to use than I expected. Printers can be annoying, especially photo printers, but this one has been pretty easy to troubleshoot when something comes up. If there is a paper feed issue, ink question, or something with the settings, it is not too hard to figure out and fix. Once I got used to the menus and the print settings, it became pretty simple to get the results I wanted. The printer itself is big, so that is something to keep in mind. This is not a small desk printer you just tuck in a corner. It needs space, especially if you are printing larger sheets. The ink and paper are also not cheap, but that is kind of expected with this level of photo printing. If you are only printing random documents or the occasional small photo, this is probably more printer than you need. But if you actually care about photo quality, the cost makes more sense. Overall, this is the best printer I have owned. The print quality is beautiful, the larger sizes come out amazing, and it gives my photography a professional look without having to send everything to a print shop. It takes a little time to learn the settings and get everything dialed in, but once you do, the results are absolutely worth it. ... show more

  • Beautiful when it works, previous one died a miraculous death
Style: Old Model(PRO-200)
So this is the second Pixma PRO 200 I've owned. Had to buy a new one on Black Friday 2024 because the previous died a miraculous death. It's up there with Hamsters. Somewhat shaken and in fear of printer deaths now. THE PRINTER ITSELF: First things first, it's a gorgeous printer. It prints gorgeous prints, it's so hefty and the ink lays beautifully. I use my printer to make stickers. I can go months without printing, the ink will be just fine, but it's probably not recommended to do this. I refuse to return to a normal printer due to the color range and quality. Yes, the printer has a full set of ink to get you started. That's like a $100-$120 value right there. Would highly suggest getting a second stock of ink if you intend to print a lot of full colored images, the ink is hard to come by for some reason. $13-$15 a pop's kinda pricy, but I feel like the quality is worth it. Otherwise, I wouldn't recommend buying such an extra printer. This thing's built strictly for print, no scan as well. SETUP: Setup is easy enough, if you get stuck on connecting it to the WI-FI where your PC says it can't find your printer, just hit the home button on your printer, go down to LAN > WIFI > SETTINGS > WI-FI SETUP > MANUAL CONNECT > Find your WiFi name > there might be multiple choices of the same named router, just pick top and enter your password, if it's wrong, swap to the second option available and enter your password. Your PC will pick up your printer once you connect it to the WIFi this way, continue the setup on your PC. Or skip all the hubbub and just go wired. PREVIOUS PRINTER DEATH: Now here's how the previous one died. My previous printer was 3 years old, and out of warranty, and while I've had my fair share of normal errors, this one was the ERRORS OF ALL ERRORS. The godforsaken "paper jam". The impossible to find, it's not real, I'm having a schizo moment, paper jam. Error 1300 that killed my printer once and for all. One busy morning, my Pixma threw up error 1300. "Paper Jam." The reality was there was no jam. There was no paper for it to choke on, and there was absolutely no Canon rep to speak to without their hand out, no store nearby to bring it to, and no help online. Apparently this printer is just elusive for repair, and general information online. RIP $600. I did the good ol unplug, replug. Worked! For a while. Like a single print. Error again. Okay... I clean it. I do everything by the manual to clean, to dust, to ensure everything is in order, and even leave it unplugged for its specified 5-10 mins. Nope, "jammed." Leave it unplugged overnight, works for 6 prints, then dies again. COOL! It starts throwing up this error so much no matter what I did, that once I unplugged and replugged it for the umpteenth time, it didn't even want to start up. The screen flicked on, still black, and never came back to me again. Tried swapping its power cable, thinking it got fried somehow. Nope! Same black screen deal. Sometimes while plugging it back in it'd boot up just the Canon logo and then go back to never loading anything. We love that... SOOO much. Me thinks it was borked the moment it threw up that first error because seriously there was nothing for it to jam on. I've never had a paper RIP in the printer, it's all vinyl. Vinyl that never peeled incorrectly in the printer. 3 years. 3 years of on n off printing, not enough to get my value out of it, kind of upset about that. CANON SUPPORT: Canon's support team is absolute dogwater. The official site will direct you to the forums where you must make another account... to talk to other USERS... otherwise, you can talk to a representative at a fee if you're out of warranty. "Up to $20." Cool cool. I wasn't about to do that, because it was very clear that my printer was beyond a $20 phone call. Beyond a simple repair shop, this thing was dead dead. FINAL THOUGHTS: All n all I DO love my printer, after all I returned to get a second one clearly, but just be wary about whether there's a Canon store near you, or a print shop that is qualified to take Canon printers to fix them. Be aware some errors apparently can be devistating, make sure to print something every once in a while, and maybe buy a dust cover. Protect your investment y'all. Also maybe buy the official Canon carepak warranty on their site. I don't want to but seeing how my previous one died, I might just have to. ... show more

  • Great Quality Printer (and YES..it DOES come with ink.)
Style: Old Model(PRO-200)
First off, the previous reviewers stating it does not come with ink are flat out incorrect. Maybe if they didn't rip the package open like a 8 year old on Christmas they would realize the 8 ink cartridges are on top between 2 pieces of cardboard.(1st thing I noticed when I open the box up, as well as the 8.5x11 sample pack of Luster paper) SMH. With that out of the way, the printer was also very easy to set up...took me 30 minutes (give or take..and that was taking my time) from unboxing, setup, calibration & printing out pics ..apparently the other negative reviewer has not touched a printer in 20-30 years or so....but it does have paper instructions (in multiple languages) of step by step what to do & if you can't read, there are animation steps on the display of the printer itself. (if you can't see...then you probably shouldn't be buying a printer anyway.) Third...the Printer is a beast...as in it is massive 25 inches wide so make sure you have adequate space to set it up. (although smaller than previous models) but this does print 13x19 size paper so it will be bigger than your standard cheap walmart models. It does take a little time for the printer to "warm up" or shake the ink up so if you have not used it in a while so this may happen...it's perfectly normal. It is slightly noisy when doing so but nothing like a heavy metal concert level noise. I would have preferred a larger screen AND to have it a touch screen, but that is a nit picky personal preference. (I did much research before investing in this so I already knew about the screen & was ok with it vs my printing needs that took a higher priority) Printer quality is EXCELLENT. I am a Graphic Artist/Illustrator that does a wide range of art from oil portraits & landscapes to comic book illustrations...and the color is vibrant, & seamless...meaning even under a magnifying glass, I detected no inkjet "dots" from the colors. Better than a Staples or Office Max print out....which after running into problems printing my OWN artwork out, I decided to invest in a large format printer. The Inks seem to be only available (at this time) from Canon directly & I have found 2 other online places that offer them as well. (sadly, as on now not on Amazon) and even a few colors are on backorder. Pretty sure the Pandemic is making that a little harder to mass produce them. This Printer & cartridges (CLI-65) were released in late 2020 so they are relatively new on the market. Each of the 8 inks cost about $13.99 a piece or $105 for all in 1 bundle. It is usually recommended that you buy the inks as you need them as certain colors will be used up quicker than others. It also comes with a installation CD but you can also download it from the Canon website (also provided in the paperwork) The Canon printing Software, I think is ok, have not used it much (will learn more about it later) but offers many settings..however I prefer at the moment and am able to print using Photoshop's UI...which is quicker for me. I have noticed to get the best results, you must tell Photoshop print menu (& the Canon Software) which paper yuo are printing on. There is also a setting on the printer itself to auto detect or bypass it. I take the extra step and set the paper style myself as it may or may not recognize other brand papers. So far I have used Canon Luster, Glossy II, Staples Matte, all of which have great results. (and intend to get more styles and brands to test out on the future...especial the metallic papers) The Printer is also wireless capable (tried & works) Airplay capable for Apple products (haven't tried yet) Not sure about android but probably could use the wi fi for that as well. It has an ethernet port & a USB B port for direct connect from computer/laptop to printer. Sadly, no standard USB for flash drives, or SD card slots. (update: Works just fine wirelessly from my Ipad and My Macbook Air) That is all I can think of at the moment. ... show more

  • My life saver!
Style: Old Model(PRO-200)
I was so so nervous about getting a new printer when mine died. I own a stationery company so printing envelopes and high quality images are extremely important. This printer is perfect!! It is very easy to use and set up right out of the box. The image quality it produces is unmatched. No streaking or lines through the color. Print speed is where I would expect, not too fast not too slow. So far no connectivity issues and the value for the money is on par. Especially because I can print full bleed! It is quite larger than my last one but because the printable area is so large it is honestly fitting. ... show more

  • 3 years later… Not worth it 3 years later… Not worth it
Style: Old Model(PRO-200)
As the title states, I purchased this back in August of 2021. Initially after a learning curve this printer was producing very high quality prints. The colors were beautiful and vibrant and the printer was sleek and efficient. That was up until the end of 2023. Around November I began noticing deterioration of the print quality, I ran a nozzle check and it came out that two of the nozzles were clogged. No biggie. I ran the deep cleaning twice and they were all cleared except for Light gray. This one was stubborn, I tried many different methods and no matter what the clog would not break free. I resorted to purchasing a new print head. This is normal and happens every now and then. *THIS IS WHERE MY REVIEW DROPPED FROM A 5 STAR TO A 1 STAR* Here’s the kicker, you can’t find a replacement printer head. After contacting Canon, they notified me that the part was discontinued. Let me add some context to why this matters: 1. The printer was released in 2020 (it is Feb. 2024 as of this review) 2. Printer heads typically last 6-7 years 3. The printer itself is still being sold brand new If you purchased it this printer, you can guarantee that if something happens to the printhead, you will have to buy a completely new printer or by a dodgy printhead for resale price ($300-$400 USD). I’m utterly disappointed with Canon. I have no options left, and a perfectly good piece of machinery that cannot operate due to a broken part. I suggest if you’re looking at this printer to go with a different company. At the end of the day you want longevity out of printers, canon has made it clear that it is not their priority. I’m quite sad as this printer was really good. I hope Canon finds a way to make this right for its customers. ... show more

  • Not a Plug and Print printer. Good if you are willing to work for it.
Style: Old Model(PRO-200)
I get that the more technical something is the more technical the set up. I have no issues with that. The drop of one star is for the absolutely abysmal lack of basic set up logic, the really poor LCD set up screen, the lack of instructions that really are pretty simple if someone just wrote them correctly and the lack of information on how to get a decent printout if your initial images might not be perfect. Some people just want a good printer for their photos and don't want to spend three days getting the blasted thing to print something that isn't a muddy mess. Pros: Beautiful images once you get it set up and figured out. Prints on variety of papers. While I haven't gotten a paper jam yet (knock on wood), I can easily access everywhere there would be one. Folds back up when not in use to a huge rectangle (don't have to leave anything open or extended). Can set it up to shut off after x time or to wake up remotely. Prints large images or sets of images. (Take into account that often phone images are usually 4:3 aspect and DSLR are usually 3:2 depending on your camera. Matters when you want to print, say, a 4x6) Cons: Weighs a ton. OK, 32 lbs. It's a figure out where you want it and don't move it again item. You need the free Canon Professional Print and Layout at a minimum. Photoshop is ideal, I have an ancient Corel Draw that still works great. Trying to print from Photos if you are simply using camera phone images is an exercise in frustration. Just don't do it for your own sanity. Works almost OK for daylight images, but if you have anything taken in a dark room you likely need some adjustments that just aren't in Photos. The LCD setup screen is so bad you need your computer right next to your printer so you can continually go back and forth, even after setup because you have to register every paper with the Printer, and change the paper type ON THE PRINTER LCD screen every time you want to switch from Luster to Glossy. (Put the paper in the printer, tell the printer what it is on the LCD screen, if you don't have it registered, register it on the LCD screen, go to the application where you are printing your image, set the printer profile, set the paper size, set the paper type (you can get the information from the printer with a button. Sometimes.), do all the rest of the setup for the image, Print). Really? the computer or phone or tablet can't send the printer that information? You have to set it on the Printer? In this day and age? Luster prints darker than Glossy with the same settings. Brightening helps dark images but loses definition. My 2006 7410xi prints a better "Send a photo to a printer" without all the tweaking. HOWEVER, with the tweaking you can get a FANTASTIC printout from this Pro-200. How much time do you have to spend getting each image exactly right? That is where you must decide. For me, this is worth it as I have a lot of photos I want to scrapbook, and I want the photos the way I remember them so I am willing to take the time to get each one just right. If you want something you can sell, this works great for that (tweak it once, save it, print it forever more). If you have a brain, you should be able to figure it all out even though they don't TELL you you have to register every kind of paper you use. Sad that the print is different on Matte/luster vs glossy even when the settings are identical. I suggest you find a good sharp daytime image with good color and print out several copies with different settings and keep them for reference. I have 4 of one image with different settings and one setting pleases me on other images every time. One other is ideal for darker images. This is not plug and print unless your art or photos are perfect to start with (even then maybe, maybe not-I'm not perfect so I don't know). It is a plug and play with the settings until you get it right for what you are trying to print. ... show more

  • Outstanding Printer Value
Style: Old Model(PRO-200)
I bought this in September 2021, to replace my 10 year old Canon Pixma Pro9000 Mark II Printer, which finally konked out. I read many reviews on amazon about a shortage of ink, so I made sure the ink was available before I made the printer purchase (it was, & the printer DOES come with a full set of cartridges, but you have to search the box to find them; don't throw the box out until you find them!). Wi-Fi Set up was easy. I specifically needed this printer to do 11x14" paper (an uncommon size), & the Canon manual & website assured me that it could handle custom sizes up to 13x39". I've been printing on a Mac since 1986, so I know something about printing, but could not get it to print correctly. Prints were coming out in the wrong orientation, being cut-off etc. I tried everything, & everything failed. Then I discovered that this printer has a check box for something like "detect paper mismatch", meaning that the printer won't allow you to print if it detects a paper size in the printer that doesn't match your print dialog's stated size (in my case, a "custom" size). Once I unchecked this box, it printed perfectly. I recommend that experienced users (who routinely check that paper size matches page setup size, etc.) uncheck this box (in the setup window on the printer). This will save you some huge headaches. Other users here have said that this printer does not allow the use of non-Canon paper, but that is incorrect. In the print dialog, there's an option for "Other" (papers) & that's where you make your non-Canon paper choices. It's a really good printer & a great value at this price. ... show more
