I can confidently say this is the best printer I’ve ever owned. The print quality is excellent—very close to a laser printer, easily about 90% as sharp in my experience. What really sets this printer apart, though, is the cost of ownership. The ink refills are surprisingly inexpensive, especially when compared to the high cost of toner cartridges. That alone makes a huge difference for me. Performance has also been impressive. It’s just as fast, if not faster, than the laser HP printers I’ve used in the past, and it handles jobs smoothly. One feature I didn’t expect to appreciate as much as I do is the automatic print tray. It opens and closes on its own, which keeps the printer looking clean and eliminates the need to manually manage trays. Epson's EcoTank printers RULE! This is the SECOND ET-3950 I've bought for friends and family. Benefits: 1. Print cartridge worry obliterated 2. "Will it print?" worry obliterated (just leave printer on, it is ALWAYS READY TO GO) and ... no more test pages 3. Ink cost worry obliterated. The ink is essentially "free" because the ink lasts so long, and one print does not use a measurable amount. My personal printer is an Epson 8550 which prints large format, had a scanner but no pesky fax (who has a phone line in the house any longer?). The first batch of ink lasted me 2 years. 2 years even when I beg friends and family to let me print 13"x19" blow ups for them. I bought a case of 3" tubes to mail these prints: Pro Tip costs $.80 each. When you use photo paper on Epson's EcoTanks, you can buy a photo printed pic, and compare it to what you printed on your printer, and you won't be able to tell the difference. I did this test on 13"x19" print of a friend's son's soccer play. I was GRATIFIED that the EcoTank's quality was THE SAME. I bought my first Epson EcoTank by mistake. I intended to buy the 8550 but ended up with the 4950. I liked it so much that I could not return it. I was using it too much. When my Angel Wife wanted her own printer, then I ordered the 8550. These are GREAT printers. Doubt no more, this is the sign that you should take the plunge. I am DELIGHTED with the Quality, Cost, Reliability, and pure pleasure-in-use. ... show more

    • Stay Away from this Printer!
I almost never leave negative product reviews, but this one requires the effort to warn others. I would give this item zero stars if that were an option. I have dealt with Epson technical service personnel repeatedly since I originally received this defective printer on February 17 of this year. As a result of those discussions, I received my SECOND replacement printer yesterday. Like the first two printers, this one also does not perform properly. It jams every single time the document feeder is used for scanning. The first page jams every time. None of the online recommended fixes resolves the issue. The first replacement printer could not be connected to my wireless network, so I never even got it set up to test it. The Epson technical service personnel concluded it had a defective network card. The original printer could be set up; but after every print job it completed, it locked up and displayed error code 302626, which I was told by the service personnel indicated a hardware issue of some sort. To say this has been a disappointing experience would be an understatement. I intend never to purchase another Epson product. Epson insisted my only remedy was to continue to receive replacement printers, all of which were refurbished machines. I devoted a total of more than 8 hours to this terrible product. The bright spot in this sorry is that because of my long and strong patronage of Amazon, I was able to receive a refund from and return the machine to Amazon. I will now try an HP model, which hopefully will be a much better experience. ... show more

    • I really love this printer.
Overall, I am very happy with this printer. I had a defective printer at first, but Amazon immediately replaced it. Setup was fairly easy and I can even print from my smart phone with this printer. The ink bottles are easy to load, and they are said to last much longer that ink cartridges. You can easily see the ink levels and the paper levels. in the front of the printer. It does a beautiful job of printing color even on plain paper. It is a little slower that my previous Canon printer. When I want to turn it off, I cannot just push the power button. I have to push the power button then slide another arrow to the "off position" then push the OK button. You have to make a choice for almost every setting and then push the "OK" button. ... show more

Took some effort to unpack, as Epson took precautions to make sure it didn't get damaged in shipping, but once all the tape and stuff was removed, it was easy to set up and it prints beautifully. This unit is slightly smaller than the HP all-in-one it replaced. It holds more paper, doesn't use exorbitantly expensive ink cartridges, has similar scan quality, and I'm really happy with it. ... show more
