We have three dogs—two young shepherd mixes and an older pug, which play in a 4 acre yard bounded by an invisible fence. And we live in New England, so the weather can be plenty lousy and cold in the winter. We wanted something that would let the dogs in, keep the weather out, and look good. We also wanted something that was well made and would last--I am so tired of buying junk products that look great initially, but don’t hold up under normal usage. I certainly didn’t want to be taping cardboard over a rectangular hole in a leaky door insert, where a dog door used to be, in 20-degree weather. That’s why we decided to spring for an Endura Door. This door is great. It’s made just like a regular sliding door--strong construction, sturdy, and looks just like the rest of our sliding doors. It looks like it came with the house. The flap is also impressive…..it is thick, semi-opaque plastic which locks in place with strong magnets. The balance between locking vs. opening is perfect. It takes a bit of effort for the dog to open it, but once they get the hang of it, they act like it’s always been there. The flap also comes with a metal door which slides into the flap frame to essentially seal the door shut. We use this metal insert at night to prevent our dogs meeting a band of coyotes or a lost skunk come waltzing into our house. Putting in the door was a cinch, and I’m no handyman, but it was a little more difficult to train the dogs to use it. As all dog owners know, dogs have different skills, but our dogs took to it at surprisingly different rates. The smartest shepherd, Scout, was more tentative with it, seeing it as a solid object, while the other shepherd, Layla, not in the competition for world’s smartest dog, barged right through it. She also is the only one who still whacks her head into the metal when the door is closed. Mr. Pugsley was the last to master the art of opening the door, and he still needs a reminder every so often--I flick the door open with my hand--but 95% of the time he’s in and out as he wants. This issue isn’t the door’s fault. Pugsley took years to learn his name. All were proficient with opening this flap within 3-4 days. Overall, this door is one of the best buys we’ve made. It looks and works like “professional grade”, and even with three dogs barging through it constantly, it still looks brand new.

The patio dog door is beautiful. Super easy to install and it fits so well, it looks like it was part of the patio door. The magnets hold the flap tight, although when I put my hand on the flap, I can feel that it gets cold. But I couldn’t feel any air coming through the flap. We are very happy with the product. My dog took some encouragement to get him to push the flap as he was used to one that was easier to push, but he now goes in and out without any problem. Edit: Not as happy with customer service on the door. The edge of the flap ripped from hitting the edge of the door. Customer service claimed the dog had chewed it. That is not possible as when the dog goes through it, it closes tightly. Very disappointed with the lack of warranty on this.

I got this one because my door frame was obnoxiously smaller than a standard door—this was (shockingly) the cheapest option I could find to fit the space that was double pane and vinyl. For nearly $700, there’s no latch, or hardware for a latch… why? I have small dogs (Pomeranians 6-12lbs) and I needed to lower the door… adjusting the step over was NOT straight forward (take before pics ahead of embarking on this). The weather stripping is subpar—I’m sure it’ll need to be reinforced when winter comes. Luckily my handyman was able to install a lock, adjust the step, and get the thing secured into the space, but I definitely couldn’t/wouldn’t be trying that myself. Basically, the only reason I got this door was due to the height and the fact that I could order on Amazon and return if it didn’t fit properly. Other options were typically custom and/or had a several week waiting period/no returns. Anyway, I guess it’s fine…. Can’t for my life figure out how they justify $700 other than the limited supply of comparable items, which I guess is reason enough since people like me actually bought this thing…. Ideal pets double pane vinyl that is ~78” is a much better product IMO (that’s the one I used in the past but found it was too tall for my new slider :( ), and is about half the cost. It has a latch and install is much more straightforward (assuming you’re like everyone else who needs it to be secure just not “popped in”, which left tons of gaps, at least in my case). At least the dogs are using it I guess—definitely don’t feel great about the cost, but we’ll see how it holds up for winter. Hope this helps other folks!
