This is a well-made high quality item from Le Creuset. They also have a cheaper Made in China line, but this pestle and mortar is the real deal. As the ceramic base of the pestle, and the inside of the mortar, is pale-colored, sooner or later it's going to show coloration from whatever you're grinding (e.g. black peppercorns). However, it's easy to wipe and wash clean, and if deep staining occurs, you'll have to live with it. C'est la vie. ... show more
