I've bought about 4 of these hot plates for our STR business. It definitely gets warm enough to boil water, cook meals and store afterwards in case necesarry. Our guests like them a lot as well. They don't occupy much space, easy to maintain and does the same for us a 2 burner gas stove would do. We purchased the first one about a year ago and still works very well. Taking into account items normally don't last as long when used in e.g. tourism, we're very content with the outcome of this product. Very decent quality for this price and looks nice as well. My glass cooktop recently died and a new one of the right size is on backorder! So I needed a solution that could allow me to cook for my family for the next month without breaking the bank (I just paid for a new cooktop so I didn't want to spend too much). I have been pleasantly surprised by this little unit. For the price, it's awesome. What I love the most: price is great! It does work well - I have used it for just over a week and cooked dinner on it every night. I've boiled corn in a large pot without a problem, cooked up hamburger and chicken, made rice - just about everything. It definitely gets hot enough to boil and fry things. It's also easy to wipe down/clean. What I didn't love: The two burner pieces are close together and so you can for sure use two medium size pans at the same time, but you would struggle to use a large pan and another pan at the same time. Often I have to cook one thing, then the other - or I have to do smaller portions and use small/med size pans. Not a big deal, really. I noticed reviews spoke about the light going off. It's good to know it goes ON when it is heating and OFF once it reaches temp - so don't think the unit is turning off just because the light goes off. It just means it is at that set temperature. OVERALL: A fantastic solution for my problem and 100% worth the reasonable price. I plan to gift it to one of my adult children who lives in a small apartment once I am done - it's great for that situation, too. ... show more

I originally bought this to make hookah coals on, since my stove is gas and doesn’t heat them evenly. This not only heats them evenly but very quickly. I now also use it at the renaissance Faire with my mini generator (though a Jackery type battery isn’t strong enough). I’ve cooked several meals on it. It’s fast and reliable and durable and portable. I even take it out to sit near the hot tub to keep the next round of hookah coals warming. Love this thing immensely. ... show more

This is the best hot plate I’ve had. The one I had before was some fancy flat top supposed to have all these features. It wouldn’t even boil water. This hot place has the coils for heat which I think is the key. The temperature is easy to adjust and it warms up fast. I can cook anything on this. Which is important to me because I don’t have a stove. Plant boils water! It’s nothing “fancy” which I think is its best feature. Simple and does its job. ... show more

I bought this because I had a gas stove and wanted to go electric, but of course, a new circuit would cost more than the dang stove! Anyway this little gadget has helped me to lessen the use of my stovetop, BUT it's not a perfect substitute. It heats up fast and boils water in a heartbeat. I will give it that! The thing is when you turn it on to 1, it goes straight to a very hot temperature. Then the light will click off making one think it turned all the way off. It doesn't, it just goes to a much lower setting. It's kind of hard to keep a steady medium-low temperature for simmering. You kind of have to keep fiddling with the control. Don't expect to just place a pan on this thing and walk away. It needs constant oversight. The other thing is if your pan is not very heavy, then there is the fear of it falling off the hot plate. I've almost had that happen. Two other things I wanted to mention. After turning off and unplugging, I put a large stainless steel pan lid over the plate. This keeps it safe for the cool down period. the other thing is I do NOT recommend using non-stick pans with this. The heating is erratic that it could easily damage these pans, or send out toxic fumes. I'm keeping this gadget and not returning only because it doesn't seem there are any better ones out there and for 10 bucks, I'll deal with its quirks. ... show more

So this has been my alternative. Electricity far cheaper. Hoping one day gas appliances won't be taboo here in CA. Until then I can't afford the gas. This sets up easy.
