While this is soft, I love the dark color and sheets fit just fine over it what I hoped was that it would be a little thicker. Really didn't make much of a difference in feeling like something substantive was over my mattress to help with more support or comfort. I purchased a new bed since my old mattress was a pillow top and approximately 12 years old. I was waking up incessantly with back pain so I decided to get a firmer mattress and I severely over corrected! My new mattress is a firm Tempur-Pedic type and felt great at the store but after two nights at home it felt like I was sleeping on the floor! I went through a couple mattress pads that I stacked together and that did not work to make the mattress more bearable. I ran across this one and it is a game changer. It is thick, comfortable and provides that pillow top feeling with just the right amount of firmness now with my mattress. It does show the little squares under your sheets, however, if you make your bed is not noticeable. For me it does not sleep hot and makes no noise when you move on it. The mattress pad stays in place too and does not shift while sleeping. I have an adjustable base and it has not affected the topper at all. I'm so glad I went with the reviews and purchased this one because I was ready to throw the new mattress on the curb! The pad has no smell either. As for washability, you better have a large drum washing machine because this thing is thick! I fluffed it out of my bed first like it said and then tossed in my dryer. I do have a large dryer and washing machine but when this was put in my dryer it took up the entire thing. When it is time to wash it, I will take it to the dry cleaner. It feels really nice to lie in because of the cushions but I gave it a 3 stars because the mesh that is used to wrap around mattress is flimsy and nothing like the commercial I’ve seen. It shifts around always having to fix and put it in place. The grasp to mattress is not great. In the commercial it shows it’s a bit thicker and not a mesh. But that’s not what you get! The mesh is what makes this product cheaply made but not priced the same. ... show more

It fluffed up nicely after opening, stayed in place once fitted, and has made sleeping much more comfortable. For the price, this ended up being a much better upgrade than I expected.
