I live near the ocean and we have decent surfing. We host a big east coast surfing competition every year. This board is perfectly for beginners especially children. It is not a hard top board which makes it forgiving to stand on as well as fall on. Assembly is as simple as installing fins. The pattern is really cool. The quality of the board is questionable as the soft material seems less durable than hard, but overall a good board for learning.

Although I got this for when my kids come to town, I couldn't help but want to take it out myself, and I have to admit I had a blast. I was really surprised that the amount of volume in this little 5'6" surfboard was almost the same as my old 6'9" Rusty, and that got me thinking. The end result was a fantastic day at the beach on a board that was definitely not designed with a 186 lb adult in mind. Materials and construction quality are very good and all of the lamination around the edges feels smooth and properly sealed. The fins include rubber washers to prevent water from absorbing into the foam through the fin holes. The soft top is comfortable to paddle on but despite the claim that no wax is needed, I found that the surface was somewhat more slippery than I'm comfortable with. Personally, I think a traction pad would be a welcome addition. Overall, this is a fun little board that beginners will love and even more experienced surfers can enjoy. If you're looking for a starter board for your kids, I absolutely recommend this one.

I don't have an ocean handy to test this currently, but tried it on the lake behind my boat as a wake surf boat. While I was able to surf with it, it isn't good for it for the following reasons: - very buoyant so was hard to hold it in the start position before you are up - hard to get push as wasn't able to find a spot that allowed me to easily get enough push on the board from the wave to not need the rope It is easy to assemble and didn't even need tools or a couple quarters to attach the fins to the board

I wanted to use this throughout the summer before leaving a review so I could give it plenty of tests. My son (19 yrs) and I have both used this, even though it's a kid-size board lol. I figure for us beginners, it's perfect and I'm a smaller woman...5'5" 130 lbs...so this worked fine for my needs. We've had a lot of fun with it! We take it to Lake MI where surfing is fairly common due to ocean like waves. I have always wanted to try surfing and this was the perfect way to get used to the feel of the board under me with waves swelling and rolling while trying to keep my balance. Mind you, I have yet to stand up lol. I first got comfortable with laying on it and paddling while trying to stay on top and go off one side or the other, then straddling; haven't even kneeled yet. It is sturdy but not heavy or clunky at all, very easy to travel with and carry to my spot on the beach. So glad I got this, it's made well so I'm sure we'll have plenty of years to keep practicing with it!

This board is for kids, but if they try to spring up onto it quickly, they will inevitably bend or break it. If they use it gently, it is a great, cheap way for them to get exposed to surfing. Boogie board experience is a big help! Also, if you think the fins don't fit, just force them in; it's foam and they can be made to fit.

After a recent beach trip where we saw a lot of surfing my kids wanted to give it a bit of a more serious try than they have up to this point. As beginners it's hard to really assess how far this board will take them, but it's a good size for my 10 year old and she is able to handle it well. It seems well made and floats well, plenty for her to get up on. Overall, it's a nice little piece of kit for her to explore on and if this becomes serious then we'll step it up.
