No I mounted it from the outside of the entertainment center because I was in a hurry and did not want to move it to install through the back of the unit. So very easy to install. This definitely cleans up the appearance of a fireplace insert. Inevitably, the insert was not a snug fit and left a gap around the edges of the fireplace opening. This frame seals it up. Why did you pick this product vs others?: Works great! I bought a house with an old gas insert but the whole house had previously been converted to electric. So the gas fireplace was useless. This was an easy solution and fit right in the hole with no issues.
