This bicycle is all around impressive. First, what are the negatives? Not much. The single biggest drawback is that it is definitely on the heavy side. If you live in a 4th floor walk-up apartment and you want to carry your bike into your room, then this probably isn't for you. No lightweight aluminum frame here. This thing is solid welded steel. But that isn't all bad. It also is incredibly tough and durable, and you won't notice the weight when riding it, because the ePower boost makes it effortless - but I wanted you to know. They also don't recommend that you carry more than about 20 pounds on the back rack, and I agree, since more than that will definitely tend to overbalance the back of the bike and if you start to lose your balance, the back will sag and it will make it a bit harder to recover (it happened to me). But that is about it for negatives. EVERYTHING else is pretty wonderful. This thing is powerful and effortless to ride. I LOVE the Pedal Boost mode. Mechanically, without power, it is a 7 speed bike. Pretty nice, just in and of itself. But then you can apply Power Boost to your pedaling, choosing from Level 0 (no boost) up to Level 5. Now when you pedal, the bicycle motor senses that and it kicks in to help. The more you pedal and the longer you pedal, the more boost it gives. Frankly, it almost delivers too much power, because even if you pedal slowly, after a few seconds the bike will want to go 15 MPH (when set on Level 3) and if you have it set up to Level 5, then the bike will boost you all the way up to 20 MPH, without you even trying. All you have to do is keep moving those pedals. The reason I love the Pedal Boost mode isn't because of the power it delivers - as I said, the power is almost too much - but it is because it encourages you to keep pedaling, even if you are not in the greatest shape. So you get exercise and yet it is very tolerable. You essentially control the speed and power of the bike, by how much you pedal, so this makes you want to keep moving those feet. In addition, if you don't want to pedal at all, or if you want a sudden boost while pedaling, there is a throtle, and you can just skip ALL of the exercise if you want. It also has a cruise mode that will maintain a speed without pedaling and without using the throtle. Pretty much like Cruise Control on your car. Some people have said the battery doesn't have great range, but I weigh 265 pounds (ahem) and the first time I charged it and used it, I went 12 miles (with very minimal energy output on my part) and yet this only used 55% of the battery. After that, I continued to use it without recharging and got 21 miles out of it before it was essentially discharged. Honestly, while doing this I didn't pedal enough to even break a sweat, despite it being summer. I will also tell you that I am 70 years old and not in the greatest shape. It does take about 5 houts for full recharge, but to improve battery life I recommend that you DON'T typically run it all the way to full dischage. The bicycle does require some assembly, but the major parts are already put together. It is simply a matter of mounting the Front wheel and headlight, putting on the kickstand, handlebars and seat, and attaching the pedals and the screws for the back rack and the fenders. I have absolutely no mechanical aptitude, so it took me a bit less than 2 hours, because I wanted to understand everything and I didn't want to make any mistakes (I didn't). But if you have any mechanical aptitude you could do it much faster, and if you have already done it once, you could probably do the whole process in 20 minutes. All of the parts and the necessary tools are included. So, needless to say, I am very pleased with this bike overall. It is well designed, well built, rugged, powerful, and it works like a dream. I use mine for 'pleasure' riding and exercise, but if you wanted to use it for commuting to a job that is a few miles away, or for running around a neighborhood, or even doing some minor mountain biking or hills, then I think this could serve you well. For starters I could not believe how well packaged the Funhang Ebike arrived. Lots of foam and zip ties that prevented any shifting or damage. Better than most items shipped I have purchased online. I found when unboxing to open both the top and bottom of the box to make it easy to slide the bike out of its box. Before I started to assemble the bike I first read the instruction book cover to cover. It made assembly that much easier. I also laid out all the parts so I knew what was what. The bike arrived pretty much assembled. The only parts that needed to get installed were the front tire & fender, headlight, kickstand, handlebar, seat & rear cargo rack. It also came with all the tools needed to assemble the bike. It only took me approximately 30 minutes to assemble the bike. The battery was fully charged so once assembled I was ready to ride. Funhang uses name brand components on this bike. Shimano derailleur & 7 speed shifter and KMC chain. Over the years I have had owned other road bikes with Shimano derailleur and shifter systems and they have been extremely reliable. The derailleur also has a protective bar to prevent any damage if dropped or hit. The 48V 374.4AH Lithium-Ion battery is waterproof and can be removed from the bike to prevent theft and can be brought into your home/office to charge and keep warm. Charge time is 4-5 Hours and can be charged both on/off the bike. I live the the Northeast in the USA and it gets very cold, especially at night. If I left it on the bike fully charged in my garage by the next morning I would loose most of it battery range. This way I have full power when I'm ready to ride. Capable of achieving 25-30 miles in full electric mode and 40-50 miles in pedal assist mode but that time would be cut by almost 30% if stored in a cold environment. There are different modes to ride. All shown on the LCD display. 1)Throttle Mode: Twist throttle on the right hand grip to power your ride. With speeds up to almost 22mph 2)Power Assist Mode: The motor will assist you with a moderate amount of power as you pedal. 1-5 levels of pedal assist to suit your needs. 3)Booster Mode: The bike will travel at around 4 mph which will make it easy to push uphills. 4)Cruise Mode: Hold the throttle until the speed exceeds 6.2mph, then long press the “-” button till the "P" icon flashes on the screen to enter cruise control. 5)Pedal Mode: Pedal like a regular bike for exercise. The 1000W peak motor can handle more than your daily commute. The frame is solid. Not light at 55lbs. But the tubular steel construction can handle all kinds of city and some off road terrains. Welds are thick and solid. Step through frame is very convenient especially if you are wearing dress slacks or a dress. The paint is well applied with no runs. The horn is really loud. No excuse for people saying they can't hear it. The front LED light is very bright and adjustable. The only thing that would of been nice is to have a light/directional on the back instead of a reflector. Some other Funhang bike do have it. Being a commuter bike it really should have this feature. The kickstand is located on the rear of the bike so it's out of your way while riding. The front suspension is very good. Riding in the city or side roads there are plenty of uneven roads and potholes. The suspension can handle it. Making for a smoother ride. Tires are meaty and can handle everything from asphalt roads to dirt & gravel trails. Fenders are long and flexible to prevent you from getting hit with debris and water. The disc brakes are very responsive in all kinds of conditions with very good stopping distance. Much better than the "old fashion" side or center pull brake systems. The rear rack will hold a weight of 55lbs. Enough to hold a briefcase, groceries, ect. and talking about weight, it will handle a person weighing up to 300lbs. The seat is comfy and can handle the everyday commuter bumps. The only thing I don't understand is in the front of the bike under the handlebar is 4 screw holes that looks like a place for a nameplate. Unless it is for some accessories. Overall.... The Funhang electric bike is perfect your daily around city or town commute. Comfortable, speedy and a has great battery range. And for the price you can't beat it.
