  • Fine heater, works well
This Electra immersion water heater seems well designed and made, and works very well for me. Actually I bought a second one, and use the two together (plugged into separate electrical circuits of course) in the bathtub, just to get more and thus more rapid heating. I’d guess that if I went back to the instructions they’d advise against using two of these heaters together, but I’ve been doing it now for a while, and it’s working well for me, with no problems so far. I’m also using the two of these heaters with one of them plugged into a GFI-protected electrical outlet, mainly ‘cause that’s what I have available near the tub. I know they recommend against using a GFI’d outlet, but I presume that’s just ‘cause the heater operating in the water might tend to falsely trip the GFI off, causing a nuisance, not due to any safety risk. However, I’ve had no such GFI-tripping problem; and am pretty sure that the GFI, as long as it’s not falsely tripping, is actually providing me some safety protection. I now actually wish I had two GFI’d outlets nearby (on separate circuits) available for use for both these heaters, I’d feel safer that way. These heaters are advertised and labeled as 1150 watts (apiece) at 120 volts. I measure them at 1065 watts at 117 volts, a very close match to their spec. I’ve had the two of these heaters for a couple years now, giving them a moderate amount of use, and they both still look and work as good as new. Obviously there are a lot of ways to get badly hurt with heaters like these, so I try to be careful with them, and recommend you do the same. Meanwhile this Electra water heater performs very well for me. I rate ‘em 5 stars. ... show more

  • Slow but excellent performance
This is a great way to heat a bath. It's slow for that volume of water, but it gets there, and is a godsend in this moment where we don't have hot water because of a gas leak, and can't go out because of the Coronavirus. We switch on the heater four hours before we want to take a bath and by the time bathtime comes around, it's nice and hot. The cord is short, so you'll need an extension cord. the heater stands up by itself in the bath. When it's ready, you unplug the extension cord, then lift the heater out of the bath water and I put it in the sink to cool down. If you want to heat a sink, bucket or smaller amount of water, it will do so in ten minutes. We're using it every day and it's holding up well. It's lightweight and would pack easily. Highly recommended. ... show more

  • This thing is AMAZING!! I am currently still using it and ...
This thing is AMAZING!! I am currently still using it and I am impressed by the performance of this! It actually heats up a metal bucket of water within 15 minutes. It can heat up a metal pot about 2-3 quarts of water in like 5 to 7 minutes, and the water gets so hot that it bubbles.(u have to be careful-u can get hurt if u attempt to lift the pot or stick ur fingers in the water) This should NOT be used by children-only ADULTS. I am able to heat up water wayyy faster using this -11 1/2" Max Water Depth Heater for jobs requiring sterilizing, or to soak my tired feet. It helps save on using up all the hot water in ur hot water heater. I definitely will be ordering another one!! ... show more

  • Dangerous!
The heater worked fine at first, heating half a bathtub's worth of water in 3 - 4 hours. I thought the reviewers warning about safety issues just weren't using it correctly. Then it unexpectedly overheated and boiled away *all* the water. It filled my bathroom and bedroom with smoke and almost set my house on fire. I know I was using it correctly and according to instructions - so now I have a lot more trust in the reviewers who posted warnings! They were right! This heater is unpredictable and very dangerous. ... show more

  • Worked as designed but didn't meet my needs.
I have a very large tub, 95 gallons. I can't get a full tub of hot water from our hot water heater. I bought this based on other reviews that said they used it to heat their tub. Well, maybe my tub is too big but 24 hours later, it was still only 105 degrees. Not quite as hot as I like. It worked as designed. I'm sure it would be fine for heating a bucket or small tub. Just didn't work for me. ... show more

  • Heated a tub full of water in 2 hours
I purchased this product because my hot water tank stopped working and I didn't have almost a thousand dollars to purchase another one let alone repairs. I filled the tub and put this inside then turned it on(plugged it in) and a whole tub of water heated for approx. 2-3 hours 3 hours being extremely hot so that's too much. But please don't turn it on before putting it in water and don't take it out while it being on or itll burn out like mine did. I drained water from tub one day when I realized I didn't need to have it done that time and forgot to turn this off. Yes it burned out and had to be tossed. I was so upset at myself. It heats a bucket of water in 10 minutes or less. I would highly recommend just don't do what I did. It works like a charm especially in a situation I was in. Oh the joy of a hot bath :-) ... show more

  • Works for Sous Vide, heats like a charm however concerned about build quality
I purchased this heater to use with a DorkFood DSV (also purchased on Amazon) and have been using both for several weeks now. The good: I'm very happy with the performance of this heater so far. It heats water quickly and is very strong. The highest temp I've tried was 181deg F. I like that the coil is in the base so it can work in lower levels of water. The bad: The base appears to be made of an inexpensive metal (not stainless) and has already begun to corrode. There is rust around the screw and nut. This may or may not be a concern to most, but since I'm cooking food with it I'd prefer a heater that uses non-corroding metals (preferably stainless). I've contacted the seller and will see what they think. At the moment I'm considering not using it until the corrosion issue can be resolved. Right now I can only give 3 stars because of this problem, although I might revise later. ... show more

  • Awesome!!!
I must say this is a great product for those who work outside in the winter/fall in construction. It keeps your water nice and hot for mixing plaster, water for your wet saw or evening having a bucket of warm water to clean up. I highly recommend it to anyone who works in the out doors. My husband works in construction and he loves it. ... show more
